This is another one where the fan video seems to go really well with the song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVWcptE6UAI). That being said, and putting that association aside and not letting it bias my view on the song itself, it is a really solid track. The upbeat drums, airy synths, laughter, all really factor into my appreciation for this song. It's just fantastic to listen to. The only qualm about it that I can think of are the repeated lyrics. It's not necessarily that I don't like the way they sound, rather I feel kind of like it takes away from the track overall (not really by much at all, but by a slight margin-- let's call it a deduction of .3 points on the rating). It's interesting that "while the CD version of the EP makes it clear that the vinyl release should be played at 45rpm, it in particular sounds excellent at 33 1/3, taking on a more dreamlike, haunting quality."

One of the best tracks on TCH, such a dreamy soundscape rich with delicious little details.

It's been a long time I heard that one, lol. How the hell and on what criteria do I rate a 27 second fun-time vignette? :D I like the playfulness of it, but that's it. I'm being generous, 5/10.

13A contains that sweet, addicting arpeggio in the melody of the synths for the first 40 seconds or so. God I loooooove that sound. The rest of the song does a great job at evoking emotion. Drums are solid on this one, the background synths even better. The main synths are incredible. Love this tune.

All of ABPOITC is just fantastic in my opinion, and a great album for the oncoming cold weather. Amo Bishop Roden is really somber, but pretty catchy too. Its a great song to come after Kid for Today and before the title track, with similar instrumentation to the former but a tone a little more like the latter. 8.7/10

Now that's one of MY favourite tracks from the old tunes :) I tend to rate their older stuff highly anyway, but this track feels so nostalgic for me. The tinkling lead that comes in is just beautiful, and I really enjoy their contrast with the bassy 'wubs'. 10/10.

Corsair is definitely a ten out of ten. It is remarkable the emotion that can be evoked from this one...it has the power to really get you feeling and thinking. It is intoxicating. One of my all time favourites, for sure. Listened to all of Geogaddi today at the gym and feel like this one hit me particularly hard in the feels. Outstanding track from a timeless album.

Their best remix ever. The original Last Walk Around Mirror Lake by Boom Bip I hate a lot (plus for some reason it has like seven minutes of silence???) and Boards of Canada manages to make a rather dull and mediocre song to something beautiful and it makes you wonder what they grabbed from the original and remixed with. 10/10

Love Rue the Whirl very much. The uplifting synths, the steady and intriguing drumbeat. Remember to listen for the birds!! The ending is so chill, oh gee do I love what starts happening towards the latter part of the song. So much to focus on.

9.6/10

''There's this track on the album called "Rue the Whirl", where you can hear birds singing. What happened was that I was listening to the track, and, oddly, I could hear birds singing. Then I realized that the window was open in the studio, and since the birdsong went so well with the music, we recorded it to capture the feel of what we experienced listening with the window open" (Virgin Megaweb Magazine, 1998).''

''That's a simple track. It has a predominate woodwind riff, ascending over and over, which puts you in a trance, but there are some evolving textures in there which may or may not be obvious at first, such as birds and water. It has similar hypnotizing effect to something like the melodies you hear from a rusty swing, needed to be oiled or machinery on a journey, or even a windscreen wiper, the noise it makes over and over. The surrounding environment is continuously moving. I think it works well because everybody wants to rue the whirl."

Fantastically well composed. Every single note seems to be in its perfect place. A true testament to the overall feeling of TH. Incredible work on the drums; listening to the synths is like following a musical story. I love the muffled background voices that chime in from time to time. The breakdown around the halfway point is a welcomed change, leading into the rising power of the bass in the following segment, where the rest of the song withers out.

Finity is one of my favorite tracks from "a few old tunes". i love the dreamy synths over that gritty drum loop. this is def. one of the more heady tracks from their early releases. it's probably one of my favorite tracks from their entire "old tunes" catalogue.
