Voting for him. He's the only candidate fully opposing austerity.

Apparently the polls show him almost certainly coming out on top.

I hope the conservatives don't win, because I sure do enjoy earning money in the UK during summer

I hope the conservatives don't win because I'm not rich and I'm not a cruel, heartless human being.

Corbyn seems like a nice bloke. If not a tad unrealistic. I think a lot of what he says is based on people being a lot nicer than they actually are. He also believes that homeopathy works.

Still better than the rest of those cunts though.

It's an old cliche to say that everyone hates him so he must be doing something right, but it's so true in this case....I can barely think of one politician in any major party who isn't a neoliberal patsy tosser utterly bereft of ideas and utterly craven to 'capitalist realism', nor any mainstream media outlet (including the Guardian).
Corbyn won't be PM and probably won't be Labour leader for the next election but there so desperately needs to be some opposition to the status quo that's been in place now for decades.

Yeah he's sort of like a left-wing Farage in that respect.

good for him, couldnae really give a fuq tho. not relevant to scotland.

in all seriousness this could be interesting but i dont think labour is salvageable at the mo', rotten to the core. he'd need to do some pretty radical shit to get my vote.

SGP!

Techboy it could be incredibly relevant to Scotland seeing as no other higher up politician is better suited to work with the SNP. Even if you guys become independent, we're still next to each other and will have somewhat of a political/economic relationship. He has made statements saying that he supports the right for people to declare independence too.

Anyway, I'm happy for us because he's really a bright light in a dark, lonely time for the UK.

In regards to Labour as a whole... well that's another matter. The senior members of that party will probably need to go in the intervening years, especially seeing as how they apparently attempted to rig the vote against Corbyn in a couple of ways. The important thing is that Corbyn has finally started a proper dialogue about austerity and has rapidly gained the support of previous non-voters in younger and older demographics.

Forgive me, but I'd say you're foolish for thinking that this doesn't (or won't next election) affect you, regardless of the independence issue. No offense intended mate, not trying to start a fiery e-battle.

Such a perfect illustration of what a lightweight Cameron is. He's learnt absolutely nothing from Labour's leadership election (or from the rise of UKIP, or the SNP) - Corbyn trounced the other candidates because they used exactly those kind of substance-free soundbites against him.
This is more than just a new Labour leader, it's a further rejection of the Blairite politics of shallowness and spin, of which Cameron is merely another sad example of.

The press coverage of Corbyn's tenure so far is just a perfect example of how inept and amateurish our media has become.
Like a row of nodding dogs, everyone agrees that it's been 'chaos', 'ill-judged' etc. almost as if all journalists did these days was read each other's articles and regurgitate....
The vitriol I've seen displayed by right-wing internet commentators and bloggers who see themselves as 'anti-establishment' about Corbyn's attitude and dress sense, not singing the anthem, lack of respect etc. is a constant amusement.
Reminds me of a quote from 'Easy Rider' -

"Oh, yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom. But they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em."

OK, I'm not going to go over the top here, Corbyn's obviously not the new political messiah, but a few points -

- Although over half his cabinet are women, there's no women in the 'top jobs' in his cabinet because he doesn't agree in the cabinet's hierarchical nature and thinks that jobs like minister for health are more important than secretary of state.
I bet you hadn't heard that last bit, because the media had no interest in highlighting it - when was the last time you heard a politician thinking that way, challenging the status quo like that? It wouldn't even occur to most.

- OK, he didn't sing the national anthem because he's a republican. I couldn't give a f*ck about the national anthem, like many other thinking folk. At least he has principles and the balls to stick to them. Laughably, this really irked the so-called anti-establishment libertarians on t'internet. Apparently, this was just him being 'petulant' or it was a 'gaffe'.

- Already he's transformed Prime Minister's Questions - asking questions sent to him by the public and in the future his ministers will get turns to ask questions. You'd think these new, more democratic ideas might warrant mention or analysis by the media.

Is anyone looking at any of this and saying - look, here's someone interesting, ready to challenge, do things differently, that's refreshing?
Certainly not anyone in the media (left and right wing alike) they're happy to just repeat the '70's socialist' meme ad nauseam, which so-called free-thinking 'libertarian' bloggers and commentators line up like sheep to repeat it.

If this is what passes for political analysis these days, we're f*cked. Chances of any debate about substantial changes to our money system, power structures, economic structures? Less than zero.

The media's reaction to him has made me like Corbyn more. It's so weird, seeing a politician who acts like a relate-able human being who possesses empathy.

Even if the whole thing goes tits up, I would hope that it paves the way for more people like him.
