What is everyone's interpretation of this? It's a great quote but one that seems to have a number of meanings.
Who said it? To me it means that the AI in question would recognise that being 'too smart' would be regarded as a threat by humans and therefore that it is in its own best interest not to reveal its true level of intelligence.
Of course the obvious next, somewhat horrific question is -
how, then, would we ever know?....and
.....
has it happened already? (insert suitably dramatic music here)
Thanks for your responses everyone. They were more or less the conclusion I came too. Great quote, isn't it? It's by Ian McDonaldson in
River of Gods.

Let me tell you about my mother...
Please, not again, I may not be as present though I fear I remain as pedantic.

Passionfruit is heckin' weird. Feel like I'm eating life-gunk out of some barely sentinent sea potato.

Transcendental epiphany?
Dayvan cowboy + Cadbury flake seems like a good example of such

ADM in da house! If anyone knows his existential from his transcendental, it's Mikey.
I know this for a fact.
