A friend of mine got me into Smash more and more, I watched the whole thing too, the rivalaries, how certain players play. It was a very cool documentary to see, especially for more competitive gamers.

Just started watching ''The Expanse'', and it's really great so far. People who love sci-fi, I wholeheartedly recommend you to watch this.

Prisoners is such a heavy movie. It's really, really good though.

Last night I watched 'Troublemakers: The Story of Land Art'. It's a fairly standard documentary in terms of format and full of stereotypical 'arty types' talking in arty cliches, but for me the subject is absolutely fascinating - people constructing huge, grandiose modern monuments with little hope of financial reward, or, to be more accurate, financial riches, as while the artists didn't seem to have much hope of becoming rich themselves, the works weren't cheap to say the least. It's hard to express what I find appealing about it - there's a kind of purity to the art and the motivation, but it's mainly the huge scale of ambition and imagination I love and the links to what our ancestors did with the landscape. Some of the artworks are still in progress over 4 decades later.

Spiral Jetty by Robert Smithson

Double Negative by Micheal Heizer

The Lightning Field by Walter De Maria

Roden Crater by James Terrell (started in 1979, still being finished)

Complex 1 (part of 'City' by Michael Heizer, started in 1972, 2 x 0.4km in size, still unfinished)

Love this stuff. Definitely an ambition of mine to visit most of these some day.

I have watched the documentary Deep Water at least a handful of times and it always gives me the chills and also makes me want to learn more about one of the people featured in it, Bernard Moitessier. It's from 2006 and you can get it on Netflix in the U.S., not sure about other regions.

If you're interested in man vs. nature type adventure stories and/or have ever felt completely humbled and awed by the power and immensity of the ocean, you will like this.

Goofy side note: the boat that was sailed by the story's central figure was called Teignmouth Electron, which to me sounds like the name of a would-be BoC track. (Right?)

Has anybody seen The OA already? A new netflix original. God I loved it.

Hypernormalisation by Adam Curtis. Almost three hours so a bit of a monster but well worth it. Music includes Pye Corner Audio too.

This movie was fun and impressive considering it's low budget.

I watched this while working the overnight shift. Gave me the creeps. Well done. Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) has got the split personality character thing down.

"the bomb is a groundbreaking multimedia installation that immerses you in the strange, compelling, and unsettling reality of nuclear weapons.

The 55-minute film will be projected 360 degrees on massive floor to ceiling screens that surround the audience, as The Acid performs a live score in the center of the space.

the bomb exists at the intersection of art, politics, and technology.

Watched this recently on Netflix. Would've loved to see the installation.

Just seen this, a couple of years late as usual. So beautifully atmospheric and genuinely creepy.
The soundtrack is something else.

Yeah, I think one of the things that really appealed to me about it is that it's clearly an attempt to make a film that would fit right into the late 70s/80s golden era of modern horror movies, to capture a particular style and atmosphere, but deliberately vague about the exact time that it references, in fact much like BOC or Ghost Box do in the realm of music.
Important as well, though, is that it's not just a hollow exercise in style but very effective as a horror movie, something that It, for example, which I saw last night, just isn't.
Having said that, where's the genuinely fresh and contemporary horror movies that will be seen as classics of this era in a few decades time? I'm not a particular horror fan, could anyone point me to one?

Just saw Blade Runner 2049 and I can give it a thumbs up. It's a slow burn, slower than the first...
