" OK The reason it was jumped on was this: Warp and BOC have been in talks for a long while about putting out a box set of old tracks from these tapes and others, with new packaging and art, to be released sometime after the forthcoming record. The tapes were private comps given out to close friends a few years ago, long before the band imagined there would be this kind of interest, and long before the likes of Soulseek etc existed.

The tracks are out there now, nothing can be done about that, they've been circulating for a while and fans have them, so the decision was taken to at least consider tidying them up and repackaging them with decent exclusive artwork & more rarities. BOC never wanted these tracks presented this way, mislabelled and as poor-quality MP3 files.

There's no 'hype', these comps were never listed on any old discogs as they were never intended for mass release in the first place.
Now the intention is still to get round to scheduling a release of these tunes and other rare comps, but unscrupulous people like 'prince murat' are obviously stealing the thunder of the proposed releases, whilst trying to make a tidy profit in the process (a starting price of $799 speaks volumes about 'prince murat's true intentions. who is trying to profit from hype here? if any money is going to be involved, surely the artist who wrote those tracks should be receiving the royalties, and not this person? there's no difference between this kind of profiteering and someone trying to sell a bootleg CDR of Beck's new album months prior to release.)

Anyway, now you know, we hope the intervention hasn't caused too much negative feeling, after all the concern that Warp and BOC have is that basically it's going to spoil the impact of a nice release that hopefully will be enjoyed by the fans.

lets hope this will be true

What was the original story about this thread? Who was prince murat and what was he asking $799 for?

Around November 2004, a guy (Prince Murat) appeared on WATMM with a legit copy of the tape and posted it for auction on eBay for crazy money. After ALOT of fuss, someone from Hexagon Sun stepped in. eBay withdrew the bid, although I do not know if the two events were connected. The scans of Old Tunes 2 inlays on Fredd-e's site are taken from that time. There was also some girl involved in the whole escapade - some girlfriend of the guy selling the tape or a friend or something - cannot remember all the details.
The original thread will be hard to locate as WATMM had a really bad crash last Autumn and the site was up and down for about a month.

Yes, I am the same 'Fumi' that posts on WATMM.

Hope that clears it up..

Very interesting.

I personally would love to get these old tunes mastered and packaged. Frankly, I'd love to have some old school BoC period. 8)

This is what I thought:

In February 2005, an unknown eBay user claimed to have the original cassettes of A Few Old Tunes Vol. 1 and A Few Old Tunes Vol. 2 and put it up for auction. The auction page included pictures and artwork. The bidding was insane. It was going up to $800 US and still rising. For some strange reason however, the auction was suddenly shut down for no apparent reason without a winning bidder. There is no official statement from the duo or from Warp Records, no one can absolutely prove authenticity of these cassettes.

I guess I have to edit that.

Oh, I am writing a encyclopedia for Boards of Canada. I dislike how someone edits Fredd-E's Wiki and fucks it up.
hello.

This has been talked about way too much to the point where it all seems like someone told someone told someone else. Until it is listed on warp or we see some other clue about a supposed box set, I can't believe anyone's gossip rumors.

Yes, but what happened on WATMM was that someone, verfied as speaking for BOC by Joyrex, said BOC did want to do this and had discussed it with Warp. Nothing second hand about it from where I'm sat as I saw and followed the thread/saop opera. Evidently there's been nothing else but this wasn't just made-up stuff off of the internet. Whether it actually happens or not remains to be seen but apparently BOC want to do this thing. No rumour or gossip just what we've seen with our own eyes.

Not one person on here or the other internet boc groups has seen anything, just text on a computer screen. The internet is 80% bullshit (exsagerated statement). I really hope they do this! For sure! That would be amazing! But, you know, ......don't hold your breath.

I'm pretty sure they've mentioned getting their old stuff out in some of those recent interviews; definitely sounded like a project they want to get off their chest.

Just a quick look back at that translated Spanish interview http://twoism.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t ... +interview

"Now, a consolation for the fans: apart from an ep for 2006, Boards of Canada’s most ambitious plan is to release a box with an ample selection of material from between 1987 and 1995. “Maybe we’ll do it with Warp.” Please. "
