Let me start at the begining. I was at guitar practice, when my guitar teacher started playing the chord progression from a Guns And Roses song, I can't remember what it was exactly. When he was doing it, I felt a weird sensation like heat going up into my nostrils and in my mouth. Then I got a STRONG sense like I was smelling a french fry, the big fat kind, and then I could taste the french fry too. I didn't feel like just a random thing, for some reason it felt like it was directly related to the song.

Later I told my dad but he laughed so I geuss he didn't beleive me.

Later I was playing the pattern again and the same sensation arrived.

Now skip ahead about 2 days later. I was in the car listening to the song "4" by Aphex Twin. I suddenly got a STRONG sense like I was at the ocean and getting a strong ocean smell, and in my mouth it tasted like a nice salty flavor. I listened to this song and it happened again, just like with the chord pattern. I also had the weird feeling like it was directly related to the song.

Do you guys have any kind of theory of what's going on?

Is it something I should be worried about or do you think maybe I just have some kind of memory relations to these songs that I'm not aware of?

That's Synesthesia, right? When one sense is sending information to another sense? In your case, sound to taste.

I hear it happens to some folks (Richard D. James is one of them) but not many.

Hell, I've always thought it would be cool to experience something like that. I'd enjoy it if I were you.

I have no what it is, but i have some questions, cause it's quite interesting. :D

- Any BoC examples? :)

More and more songs I am getting it on, including ones I've heard before but never tasted. Slowly everything I hear is becoming a taste/smell sensation..

Some BoC examples ey?

Here are the strongest:

Oscar Sees Through Light: When the backwards noises come in, it tastes like a sharp metallic flavor, like sour battery flavor, and looks bright lime green. (Yes sometimes I get other sensations, but not as often or normally not as strong, on this one it is pretty stron)

Chromakey Dreamcoat tastes like beef jerky. :D

Dawn Chorus is pretty much the weirdest thing I've ever tasted, can't even come close to describing it. Also this song is really bright.

Turqoise Hexagon Sun tastes like...have you ever had blue moon ice cream? That's the closest thing I can think of.

________

I looked up Synesthesia, mechanismj. I noticed another thing, it says many people with Synesthesia associate different personalities and things with numbers and letters. I do that too.

i envy people who have synthesaesia. i imagine it makes daily life so much more enrichening for the senses. . . like mundane things become extraordinary perceptions

I think I have HPPD...lol

but allot of times I see places and things when listening to music. The places just appear in my minds eye. I don't think thats synesthesia...
Black then White are all I see in my infancy...Red and Yellow then came to me, reachin' out to me, lets me see...

I was on a train once and I got a really strong taste of rasberries. It was a real surprise. Never experienced anything like it before or since.
