dave_from_2001 wrote:thanks for sharing! these topics are usually for forum users to speculate and chat about boards of canada. i agree this kind of thing maybe shouldnt be allowed on a boards of canada message board. its cool that admins are participating in their own way though. you might think of these threads as "keeping the userbase up in the air" as if it were a volleyball. because there is no news, this is what keeps people coming back daily. isn't that what you want?

You've got me all wrong.
First of all, there are much more interesting topics for users to come back to. In a way, topics like this has caused solid users to stay away.. so I'm not sure which option should be "better".

I normally do not reply in topics like this but this time I felt the need to reply because Dragon made it seem like it's BoC's fault or at least, that's was my interpretation is. Anyway, a lot of assumptions and specualtions are being made and as you might know, this exactly is how rumours start. And this is what bothers me most because discussing about the fact when they release a record or if they even release a record again, only make it feel longer(and is mostly based on nonsense) . Discussing about it doesn't make them finish the job earlier you see. When it's done, it's done... I know this is common sense but it's how things go and that's why I let it rest and don't reply to these topics. I mean, I can't make it stop so why should I put energy in it?

For the record, I'm just adding this so you might understand why I had the need to reply this time and to reply to you, not to trigger any discussion whether my opinion is the right one.

Cheers
(ooh and btw dave, check you PMs.. I sent you one, like a decade ago)

Don't lose focus here....it'll be out when they put it out.

I, like many people, am waiting patiently for it because I know it won't disappoint. None of their albums ever have disappointed or bored me.

And for that same reason, I'll go and listen to all their previous albums to tide me over until the new one comes.

Patience is a virtue.

i'm kinda tired of most of the boc catalog at this point. right now the most interesting things to me are the old tunes vol. 1 and 2. but theyre definitely worth investigating. the second side of vol. 2 especially.

I thought twice before posting the info and starting this thread. But in the end I just thought it's what the forum's for!

People get all existential about these threads and we tend towards the same repetitive arguments.

Yes, there are a lot of other things happening in the world of music. I myself am enjoying Washed Out, Steve Moore, Broadcast with The Advisory Circle and all kinds of other things. To presume all talk of new material equates with a lack of other music is both false and patronising.

To repeat: this is what the forum is, in part, about.

Yeah, how the fuck did you come up with that? When did I say anything about the hype and speculation being entirely their fault? And not only that, you specifically blamed it on me and mashed me in with the general collective of fans. People are just excited about the new release, and no-one likes waiting for things in general. You can't blame anyone for that.

A clearance in a wooded area, you startle a deer, it runs into the pines. Vast turquoise lakes and icy rivers, crisp mountain air. A bald eagle soars above. The distant sound of a chainsaw. Redwood smoke

Once again, for anyone else who has missed previous posts, you are not waiting for nothing. There is definitely a new album coming; I realise we've been posting this message for over a year but that's just how these things go sometimes.

Well said, as always man. I find it funny sometimes how I joined this forum after Trans-Canada came out..and since then I've been waiting. I'm more excited for when the album does come out, because I miss the livelihood of the forum as it was back in 2006. I used to yearn for the tiniest announcement..after 3 years I had to give up, but that doesn't mean I respect BoC any less. I suppose it was due to the fact how deeply I was in love with their music at the time, but like many have already said - there is other music out there! Lots of tunes to fill the void...but I know that whenever the new stuff comes out, I'll be as giddy a fanboy as I was 3 years ago. To quote Tom Petty..waiting is the hardest part. :P

Regardless, 2010 is looking like an epic year from my own personal perspective. And 5 years is a good stretch between records, a good time for M&M to release something new. They've teased us with remixes, collabs and now Seven Forty Seven. Surely, the bomb shall be dropped soon.

New Clear Dawn, anyone?
The preparation for a dive is always a tense time.

I'm with Ae on this one. Been here for years and I frequent this section of the forum least of all. This Random Sound and The Playground are where it's at, fellas. There's new music, movies, TV shows, games, and just about everything else getting talked about on a daily basis. It's a beautiful thing.

I'll tell ya though, I'm flat out excited. I think 2010 is gonna fucking rock!

I think sometimes people look way too far into these things. Or maybe they don't look close enough - I can't work out which. Let me tell you another similar story about another band I like much more than is good for me.

Like BOC, this other band are actually produce ALOT of music, a lot of which never gets released. When they first started out in 2002, they released three albums in 3 years (unlike BOC). Their last album came out in 2004 and we waited for the forth like the fanboys we are. We heard demos for the new stuff within 6 months of third album and they started playing some of the new stuff live too. Then nothing. No new album, no news, nothing. 3 years later we were still being told it was coming out "soon". We eventually found out that they had changed to a major label instead of their old indie label and a loooooooong legal battle meant they weren't allowed to record anything until it was sorted.

Eventually this was resolved and they hit the studio with 2 albums worth of material to plough through. With the new stuff finally in the can they proudly told us the album would be out April 2007. A tour was announced, the album leaked onto the net - it was sublime - and the fans started pre-ordering it in droves. Then, a week before the release, the record company bumped it by 6 months - SIX MONTHS! - for reasons we've still never had explained. Rumours went around about them not wanting to compete with somebody else's big release, but we never did find out. It eventually came out (if I remember correctly) in Oct 2007 approximately 2 1/2 years late.

My point is, it's not always the band holding these things up. There can be any number of reasons why these things take as long as they do. The only difference here is that BOC aren't exactly media-friendly and - as I've said before - while nature might abhor a vacuum, fanboys are more than willing to fill the gap with rumour, counter-rumour and other bullshit in the meantime.

I've said this before too, I'll wait as long as it takes. I'd rather they took the time and did it THEIR way. I can't think of anything worse than them rushing it out just to keep us/WARP happy, only to find it's not the finished article. Patience is a virtue.

Nope. Lest this guessing game hijack the thread, it was another Scottish band beginning with B. And no, not the Beta band either.
