I could tell within three seconds that I was going to like this track. I was right. Thanks!

High five! Check out everything you can find from them, they moved on with every lp but it's all quality. I played drums in a band called Buddha on the Moon that opened for them and the Red House Painters in '93 here in Houston. They were all kicking h, I think, and it added to the music most deffo!

edit: I've just listened to some of Buddha On The Moon and I must say that you were in a really good band! I saw your video from the Munch Part Two VHS compilation:

Secondarily, I found your botm.router-rooter.com website via Google. It looks really nice. Did you build it, or do you happen to know what tools whomever built it used to do so?

(Sorry for going so wildly off-topic, but this is a rare opportunity! haha)

Well, I am still in a great band, called Drowner, sorta very early 90's shoegaze with a nails female singer. Full length lp coming out this year. I didn't build that site but will ask Hk, the main man in BotM about that for you. We also got to open for Catherine Wheel back then!

Ok, I have an answer; That site was done pretty much all by hand-scripting HTML, with lots of image slicing and dicing on Photoshop. If I were to do that again, I'd be in a bit of a quandry, as while there are platforms out there for maintaining web content (and they're easy enough to set up and manage), trying to overlay that kind of custom look and feel onto Wordpress, Weebly, Drupal, etc. is something that'd take me a bit of a learning curve to conquer.

Slowcore? Really?

Are people just randomly picking genre names out of their ass these days?

"Why do they call it Slowcore?"
"Because.... you know, it's all... slow and stuff."
"Oooooh. Hey have you heard of Distortioncore?"
"No, why do they call it Distortioncore?"
"Because.... you know, it's all... all distorted and stuff."
"So we're basically just sticking our thumbs up our ass for these genre names?"
"Pretty much..."

All kidding aside:

Slowdive all the way.

I don't really like the name, personally... But it's difficult to distinguish the sounds of these bands with anything else.

So I downloaded some Galaxie 500 bootlegs from dimeadozen.org after seeing this. I'm listening to a 1989 performance at Glasgow Tech. It's really nice, except during "Decomposing Trees" there's some asshole in the crowd who shouts "My God! Get on with it!" a number of times. Some people just don't appreciate good music.

thanks, this is great. I'd actually never heard the term slowcore either, but I love most of the bands listed in here. Especially slowdive and bedhead.

Not sure if Dakota Suite could be called slow core, but they've been compared to Red House Painters in the past.

I saw Spiritualized twice in the '90s and they were wonderful each time.

To think I didn't know back then that they were part of a genre that I've only just heard of.

I'm real crap with genres, and sub-genres, and parent genres.
....And the ones with Happy before the genre, and the ones with Step after the genre, and the ones with Wave, Step, Creep, & Vapour amongst the genre.

All genres. I can't even think of which one I belong in.

As a matter of fact: aaaaaarrrgghhhBOOOM!
*runs away*

Some new Buddha on the Moon, a cover of an Ultra Vivd Scene song called Staring at the Sun. Doing some more drumming for the band on some other covers by Caravan and Elliot Smith soon-ish.

Love blogs like this, thanks for the heads up!
Sagan: In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe.

Basinski: I wanted Cascade to become this crystalline organism like a star or a liquid crystal spaceship, a jellyfish traveling through the galaxy…
