Shit. I figured we'd find stuff like this eventually...but damn. Bleak is an understatement.

I'm sure BoC has seen the debunking of this film as well, but they're clearly pointing at the most horrible of all possible "what if's". "Tomorrow" could suck pretty bad.

Impeccable timing with all of the NSA surveillance stuff coming out over the weekend.

Good job finding it, qualia!

Absolutely agree on the worst of 'what if's'. Although the title Split your Infinities, as in one of infinite possible outcomes (infinite universe idea, aka Many Worlds Interpretation), works well for pretty much the whole theme of the album, it fits particularly well for this nugget.

And great find, qualia!

Back on the anagram tip, & please humour me on this!

But the title shuffled about features 'Utility Prisons'.

Ah, time to go home!

haha, totally got the same thing, but there are letters left over

Nisei Futility Prison

Huge stretch here but a nisei is a 2nd generation Japanese American. Japanese internment campsite during ww2.

Bleh.

Wow... I don't know how you guys do it!

It's only June 11th and already a huge section of extremely obscured speech within a track has just been cracked open and sourced? That's nuts... Yous certainly don't waste any time, do you? :P

yeah, and it's not some really obscure thing either, over 3 million views

Those Linda Thompson conspiracy VHS tapes were everywhere in the 90's, especially following the Waco / Koresh incident. That particular location in that particular video has been very much de-bunked - it's a fully operational Amtrak repair facility now: http://www.trainweb.org/chris/beech.html

great job sourcing that to all involved.

So, here is another stab in the dark...
When I first saw the title I was struck with how familliar it was, but couldn't quite place why. Then it hit me. When I was much younger (early 70s or so) my brother and I would watch Star Trek whenever it was on. When the intro would play, if my mother was anywhere near the TV she would cry "split infinitive!" when Kirk said "to boldly go where no man has gone before". It was mad annoying at the time, but it certainly stuck in my head.
Sooo, what if the song really refers to space exploration after a cataclysmic event? It does come after Palace Posy (apocalypse) after all. The narrative falls apart if the alternate order of the songs is utilized (at least I think, I'm sure I'm missing something) and the excellent sleuthing of this board in finding the debunked FEMA vid doesn't fit this theory readily. Although now that I think about it, perhaps it is not space exploration at all, but instead a penal colony in space. Again, just grasping at the straws here, but perhaps this has something to do with it.

Have a read of this & find out what your mother was talking about

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Split_infinitive

The track isn't about Star Trek's space exploration based on your mother's outbursts lol
Either that or the brothers are undertaking some serious tapping of personal childhood memories.

I think it's time for me to depart from this place, all the songs & secrets have been revealed and it'll be reveals of this quality from here on in.

See y'all next album!

Obviously not. Not what I meant, either.

Fri Jun 14, 2013 2:59 am

So you mean you weren't implying that the BoC track title alluded to space exploration based on the fact that Star Trek's opening sequence used a split infinitive, as highlighted by your mother?

Tenuous, but highly possible.

If you stare at a flame for long enough you'll start seeing what you want in it.

In the meantime, enjoy the music.

Fri Jun 14, 2013 3:00 am

Excellent work! Although I think I'm gonna have to stop reading into these threads for a while.. Don't want all the secrets spoiled the day after I get my copy in.

EDIT: Oh, and how ridiculously appropriate for this album, this video..

Running with the split infinitive idea I have been looking for some in the transcript of the video source, I have been having a hard time finding how much, and which sections, of the source have been used in the track, obviously due to the garbled effect used.

Any one spotted any split infinitives yet?

This seems like an audio and video edit right at the start, unless I'm miss hearing it…

The FEMA plans to approve cut an American citizen has generated a lot of interest

Anyone else notice that BoC did claps right in this album instead of how they used them on TCH? It adds a sort of ghostly human sound to the bleak soundscape.

Mon Jun 24, 2013 1:20 am

There is also a movie called Split Infinity. I haven't seen it but from some brief research it appears to be about the importance of family values. From a user review on the IMDb Page:

it talks about many of the problems we have today with our families - discontent, disunity, greed etc.

This would seem to fit in with the album's theme of "collapse".

Eh. BOC always seemed to be much more fascinated by the idea of conspiracy theories, rather than with the conspiracies themselves. Perhaps this song is hinting that some people, instead of looking at the actual problems around us, would rather invent fictitious problems to distract people? Just guessing...
