OK, there are totally voices on this thing. Slowed waaaay down and filtered somehow to get the howling wind effect, but they are there.

I just used Audacity to speed it up to 1000 percent and I heard them, but I lack the technical expertise to coax them out.

I'm a little bit freaked out now.

spooky.

That voice sounds reversed, though. Perhaps forward?

its forward, if you flip it...you can tell the diff. but you have to reverse the track. i had better one going just now but i overwerked it and messed it up.

ive managed to isolate the synth. then i thought if i invert it and played it with the original it would cancel out the synth, to a degree, freeing up the voice. [noise has already been removed]. but i botched it.

ill do a noise reduction, reverse the track and post that. i got it pretty clear. maybe you will have better luck than me.

ugh im starting to get frustrated. here is what i got. i figure if you can pull out a clean loop of the synth [with as little vocal in it as possible] then you could loop that and invert it to try and cancel out the synth with a second track....to try and isolate the vocal from the original track.

i dunno...im getting tired of not fully knowing what im doing exactly.

here you go

oh its in mono cuz it is easier to isolate the sounds that way.

Made this in audacity: The times i listed apply to the linked file. You can probably figure out where they cue in in the regular version of the song. I just shifted speed and pitch to get these

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/l57o0pg ... voices.wav

Here's what I hear. I'd love to know what you can make out. Some of them are clearer than others.

"Operator calling for snack bar" at the very beginning. Obviously i'm not too sure about this one.
0:07 "what's happening?" (reversed)
0:10 "get them"
0:27 "Defect, escape." -Quiet, right side
0:37 "Look behind you"
0:38 "It's Prime"
0:40 "Spreading the Net"
0:41 "Now God Hates All of Us"
0:44 "Forgive"

EDIT: I did this by monkeying with the sounds around 0:25 in my recording. Reversed, you clearly hear a pained gasp:

(I'm a new member but a very long time lurker. I signed up to respond to your post.)

I've been listening to your clip over and over for hours and I think I hear:

"...understand why it kills us... your music... made me do it"

Of course I'm not sure. At one point I was hearing:

"..ask them why... it fills up... porn and music could make me do it"

And then:

"...ask the boy..."

Aargh! It's so frustrating! :x

I bet there is a lot buried in this track. I like how if you speed the track a bit it actually sounds like something besides just pizzicato synth jabs - there is a distinguishable melody going on. I don't have the time to play with these tunes, but there is definitely more to this track at least thematically if not musically.

I love these guys. Had to add that.

It's quite amazing also that this track sounds very similar when played backwards!

Does anybody else hear the sound of a missile coming in at the end of this track....right before Palace Posey starts? Maybe its just the slowed down voices but I swear I heard what sounds like a missile or a plane.

I am sure someone else probably posted it here but according to this site the slowed down voices are saying the numbers '00809'.

Not sure where all the other stuff people are hearing in this track is coming from though. I have not yet tried messing with this myself.

On some speakers or headphones, I hear traffic sounds and honking horns rushing at me at the end of the track. Other times, I can't hear this at all. Mostly howling wind and uncontrolled fires.

One theory is that the central theme of the album was simply placed 'centrally'. People didn't give the World Wars, the Depression or even Peak Oil the names we know them by until they were underway or more obvious in retrospect. I hear it less as a lead-up to an event and more of a coming to terms with the new reality. The two tracks before and after this point could also be seen as concave and convex in terms of dwindling and consolidating resources.

This sounds like it could be a legitimate Oneohtrix Point Never track

just throw me a tl;dr. i'm beginning to think we're too stupid in general to grasp this record. discourse is obsolete.

I'm not sure if there is ultimately anything to grasp in the first place. They won't tell, and this is music, not a book.

Finally broke down and sped up the beginning which sounds like slowed speech, then reversed it and it does sound like audible speech, but a very short fragment before it gets buried.

A woman's voice: "(not a whole lot?).. and once(or what) we've recovered.. a few (or if, or of, you)"/sample ends abruptly where song begins. If I'm right at all, it's really interesting that a potential recovery is being discussed in reverse at the beginning of what might be the central theme of the album, with the last part of the song sounding more final, or unrecoverable.

The wave form also does not look like a palindrome. The album is just centered around this point (of no return?). Seems chronological. The sounds of transmissions (radio noise and garbled voices) also seem to cease at some point later in the record. Unless the beginning of New Seeds counts as a new kind of transmission. I tried breaking that one down into morse code if anyone wants to laugh at me for digging too deep.

There is some morse code in Slow This Bird Down, so the chance of that is not too far removed (although I don't know what part of New Seeds you are referring to). If you search for the STBD morse thread, it was decoded, so there should be some know-how on the forum.
