I think I would have had a panic attack if this had happened to me. If I saw Play By Numbers I would probably just stare at it for a few days then presume I had just gone mad

The mindbending marriage of shoegaze and electronica that goes by the name of Play By Numbers doesn't exist.

That is fantastic! If anyone would have these it'd be the guy who has enough iddems cred to put out an exclusive Aphex 10" only available in his brick-and-mortar location!

Opothecary wrote:Love when these types of threads happen. I just want proper high quality FLACs of OT/Maxima. Otherwise, those tapes belong in a museum.

Boc Maxima wav files have been floating about for many years now, usually bundled as two files 'side A' & 'side B'. The tape hiss extends cleanly into the 22kHz range :D

Pretty easily faked with the right equipment, but if they aren't for sale that makes this a bit more intriguing. Who would go to that much effort to make some fake tapes? Cool find nonetheless.

I'm pretty sure my first set of Maxima was either WAV or FLAC, obtained privately circa the Napster era a couple months before it got leaked onto file sharing sites (back then, the only BoC releases you could get besides MHTRTC was a vinyl rip of Twoism or Hi Scores)

The thing I mainly remember about them was that it was broken down to something like 7 or 8 tracks, with 2 or 3 tracks segueing together per file. I wish I had kept them - it didn't really occur to me to perform spectral analysis on them back in 1999 or 2000 or whatever it was. They are long gone, just like my copy of "14 - Godever.mp3" which was floating around on Napster back then, which was actually Audiotrack 14A from R35TT, long before the rest of that tape leaked.

That sounds familiar, apart from the WAV or flac bit. I certainly recall merged files with several songs per track.

I grabbed the side A n B wavs ages ago and split 'em up into individual flacs for my own collection. No remaster or anything, just as they originally leaked. They sound Pretty Magnifique to ME...

CD90s can actually be reasonably high quality after twenty years if they are preserved properly and not played all that much (magnets in the play head gradually change the polarity of the oxide film for those that don't know). Looking at the cases etc these seem to have been mostly untouched in that time. The CD90s I use can be recorded over more than any other type of standard cassette in my possession without decaying which is kind of a testament to their ability to avoid decay, although I don't own any DAT or higher end Cr02 tapes to compare. As far as Ferric Oxide tapes go, CD90s are really quite time-proof but only if taken care of as stated before.

I will do my best be a good boy from now. I only joined Twoism to talk about magnetic tape anyway.

I was going to post something similar. I've got cassettes older than that which are perfectly fine. The important factors are how the tape was treated over the years and whether it was ripped properly (ie not too loud to cause distortion)

My heart strings cant handle this visual porn

This looks genuine af honestly, I’m a bit in awe

But why is the owner/employee repeatedly flashing the goods? These are relics, they weren’t meant to withstand the oils from fingers of mere mortal retail peasants

Does he have any other tapes? :O

Does he have any insight on Boc maxima CD release?

AND ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY HAVE OLD TUNES VOL 1 WITHOUT VOL 2

I would love to come across an abandoned copy, literall in the wild, like in the woods, in a deserted area.

I agree, they definitely belong in a climate controlled museum exhibit, as cool as it is to see good upclose photos of them.

Not calling these fake, but anyone else remember the thread a few years back where someone made the fake Closes Vol. 1 cassette and claimed to find it in a thrift shop? I can't find the thread now but this reminds me of that (with these being much more believable obviously)
