Thoughts on why Warp/Boc interacted with Twoism directly?

Everything related to our favorite Scottish duo.

Everyone who visits Twoism.org was already going to buy the new album and that's obvious. This (today's clue) was much more obscure and subtle than the RSD release or radio broadcasts. They're not really reaching a wide audience with this stuff, and it's too complicated to be explained to most. People aren't really tweeting about it, even. So are they doing it purely for fun? If there's no commercial motivation, then it seems like there'd be no reason for the record label to come up with this...

Thoughts?

My guess is to show appreciation to the fans here.

Well the yourube thing was public. So was RSD. I just think they used twoism because they knew many fans are here. And arent most of the clues being deciphered HERE? It makes sense they used twoism

This particular clue was for the fans. I have a feeling the 6th clue (and subsequent cracking of the code/album reveal) will get a lot of visibility compared to this one. Your typical music website/blog isn't going to breathlessly follow the day to day exploits of a multimedia scavenger hunt - to the average music fan on the internet, the 1st clue and 6th clue are truly the important ones.

The 1st clue was the RSD release and got a lot of visibility for this thing - likewise, the next big news piece will be the album reveal. The initial story sucked in everyone who would care in for the ride, the apathetic people will say "oh. that's how it turned out" and either buy or not buy the album.

Probably because we are most likely the largest concentration of fans. I really don't know, but I am thankful for it in so many ways.

Good points.

Someone is obviously a friend of theirs that runs the site/ Warp contacted them.

I would guess: Warp just rolled with it and this has all been their doing minus those records that were found.

So excited.

I hope they're occasionally chiming in on all the love in the irc chat.

The brothers dig us and understand us because we understand them. They must feel really good to have their life's work truly and wholly appreciated by others. So they give back via this elaborate game which they know we would appreciate. Or at least that's my view on it.

in my opinion its all just an extra special esoteric treat for the fans to show they haven't forgotten us, the last clue especially seemed like a nod to everyone at twoism.org *roundofapplause :D

Boards of Canada are not a band that operates in any "commercial" aspect. They know they have loving, devoted fans at places like here, or scattered about the internets. With their niche corner of the market/industry, Twoism is THE IDEAL PLACE, their target market for where to spring a promotional announcement/viral marketing ploy and actually get noticed. Kudos to them and Warp for hitting a home run with this one, I am simply too stoked to see how it all plays out. 8)
The preparation for a dive is always a tense time.

I'm not sure why nobody's mentioning MDG. The band has the means to interact directly with this site.

I know that over at watmm some feel bruised, battered and blue that twoism.org has the edge in deciphering and being involved with the whole process. I won't say more.

Does anyone have the original WAV files from the 628315 hint saved somewhere? I'd like to try a few things if I can download the originals (disabled on soundcloud)

Thank you!

My theory: we had two days of silence. It's likely that we just missed the next codes.

They needed to interact so the trail does not go cold. Consequently, they had to address the community directly. Why twoism? Well, I guess because of the name. They can draw the attention with youtube videos of old twoism-songs.

I wouldn't say that. There's no pictures of gore or porn on /mu/. At least that much.

At the very least with /mu/ it's anon so you can't really get mad at people, like they say in Reservoir Dogs, "No one knows each other so no one will back down".

But I think they chose us because as a community we're a little tighter and more actually what BoC probably would want to be associated with. <_<

I have an account at WATMM too, not that I can remember the login details..oops. But both places have a lot to offer, albeit with different perspectives and attitudes. The 2001 Mission Control pic made me chuckle, those are pretty much my Chrome tabs this whole week.
I'll see you when the sun sets east, don't forget me.

Twoism is more focussed on BoC.
Watmm is focussed on other artists as well. I.e. It has an Aphex Twin song as website name.

As a long-time lurker I feel compelled to finally post. Especially if the BoC are reading this forum I just wanted to thank them for the endless hours of musical pleasure I've gotten from their tunes and from the crypto-shenanigans leading up to the (hopefully) new album.

Although, I generally don't listen to any other electronic groups, it seems that the BoC attract a unique cabal of discerning listeners quite unlike most other electronic acts. I think this only speaks quality of the music.

Can't remember being this excited for an album since my teenage years in the 90's!

Everything that's happened over the last few days has been amazing! There's a lot of positivity in the air. Yay new BoC activity. Why spoil it by knocking WATMM? There are good people over there that make intelligent, insightful posts. I almost always have a good time reading the forums (and making a rare post) over at WATMM. They seem a bit more irreverent and don't take BoC as seriously, which is refreshing to see at times, compared to over here. Don't get me wrong, I admire the enthusiasm and general good nature of most of the people here at twoism. But reading the occasional petty potshot at WATMM spoils the party somewhat. Twoism isn't immune to flame wars and insults, like any other message board. Sometimes I get the feeling that people who lash out at WATMM never go there, and make negative comments about them for no other reason than "that's that other group over there, let's not like them". Tribalism, eh, I'm not into it. I like both forums.
