At 3:45 on the bootleg of Boards of Canada- Echus Someone is herd saying "See that camcorder there? Tell him to switch it off." So it could possibly mean there is video footage of boc at ATP. I think allot of people would love to see the footage.

I think the situation was that anyone with a camcorder had to switch it off or else have it confiscated. At the time, camcorders were bulky and very obvious so anyone that had them pointed at the stage would have roused attention. There might be a clip of the first minute of so of Echus, though. Its a shame the person didn't upload it, but at the same time I respect BoC's wishes with regard to filming.

I think part of the Lake Dolores situation was a trust exercise. It is incredibly easy to conceal an audio or video recorder unnoticed these days and the vast majority of people have mobile devices with film recording capability. In asking fans not to record past the third track, I think they were testing the waters for potential future live events to see if those that were dedicated to their music would respect their wishes, but alas, someone recorded the entirety of it even when warp was giving out free bottles of water and making the people there feel incredibly welcome. Shame.

I am pretty certain that it was a bot or a copy/paste with a more drawn out forum-friendly method of advertising so as to try and avoid being instantly flagged as spam.

It was just a friendly stranger :P

Anyway back on topic, I was thinking earlier about how weird it is that there exists literally no footage of the brothers at all. Only pictures. Most of us have only seen them as still images which feels kinda weird. I want to see the brothers in motion in 2018 lol

All there seems to be is footage of warp parties and only in stills. The person who recorded the atp said that there was lots of security. If so how did someone get a camcorder in. Small camcorder's existed in 2001 like the ccd trv 87 for 1,000$ but most likely used was DCR IP1 or a Ruvi Possibly sewed into jacket then tooken out.

Good point, actually. For anyone willing to part with a bit of cash, there were more concealable options but not nearly concealable enough to capture clear images of the event without the venue staff noticing. If I recall correctly, someone who attended said bags were searched upon entry to intercept any dangerous objects or recording devices.

Up until about half way through Echus, a camera was recording, though. This means that there are moving pictures of BoC taken by fans out there somewhere. Where would someone have shared something like that in 2001? I doubt they shared it at all and at the time many people thought they would get a chance to see them again so live footage wasn't seen as much of a holy grail as it is today.

Hopefully one day the person in question will read this thread, one can dream.
I know there are at least two members of this forum that have seen BoC live, one of which was at the ATP event and the other at the Lighthouse IIRC.

Just to clarify: I was a young'un in 2001 so no, I wasn't browsing BoC related boards online.
I am just going off of what other people have said in relation to certain members of the board who were active ten or so years ago having been at ATP and the Lighthouse party. Some older Youtube comments from audio recordings have accounts of people who were there, one person claiming to have had a handful of shrooms before going and being put a bit on-edge by the searching of bags. Anyone who has been around a while feel free to chime in if I am mistaken about at least one or two members of Twoism having been there, though.

The Ruvi camera mentioned above does seem like it would be concealable enough to get away with some filming, though. Particularly as it is akin in size and appearance to a lot of standard still photography cameras I remember seeing around at the time.

This is so wierd to be talking about being an older Twoismer, but yeah even quite small camcorders were most definitely a thing in 2001. Not "iPhone in every pocket" common, but not "there's only one or two models it could have been" rare either. You could pick one up in any town centre, or the net. Certainly small enough to conceal in a bag check if there was one, and yet big enough to get noticed halfway through the very first song of the set.

The thing that strikes me as more important is that in 2001 there wouldn't have been an expectation that someone was going to try and record a set. Nowadays, yeah, we all literally do have the facility right there, and if a duck farts on your morning walk to work someone somewhere is always going to be documenting it. I mean, it's not the lack of small enough camcorders, it's that it'd be a friend of the band maybe or just some oddball that'd be doing it. If you had more than one person filming in a club it'd have been a really odd thing.

This thread has got me wondering if there is any video footage of boc at all out there?
I certainly have never seen any.

Again, probably depends on one's definition of "out there"
In the hands of their friends? Most certainly.
Short clips in the hands of one or two people who were at ATP or Lighthouse? Likely.

I am guessing the context of "out there" means existing at all in public on the internet in a hidden corner that hasn't been found yet and that is probably a no. Would be nice if anyone who managed to sneak a clip of them playing in were to dig it up and share it one day. Even a second or two of live footage could give us some insight into the general atmosphere and how the brothers approach live performances.

If we didn't get any footage during the ATP documentary then we probably never will.

jbible, the guy who recorded the full ATP set in relatively low quality wrote:"They were being real crazy about recordings and cameras....they had security taking discs and film. Pointing flashlights at people taking pictures."

Haven't got a link to the WATMM thread where he said this but it's on the BoCpages entry about ATP. So yeah, if there are any videos they're likely either in the hands of the brothers, some security guard's closet, or destroyed in a fire somewhere.
If The Campfire Headphase was a butterfly, would Acid Memories be the caterpillar?

Unfortunately I have no clue lmao. But while you're here, go ahead and check out some of my tunes! You might dig 'em and stuff!

While I would agree with you that this thread likely won't result in the surfacing of any video footage, the discussion is an interesting and important one. If anything it will help us gather information on ATP and the like and the kind of arrangements that were in place between BoC and various venues when they were doing the odd live event.

Will they ever do any other live event. I would like to go to one. Take a photo or 2 but that would be about it.
