Everything related to our favorite Scottish duo.

The more relevant this opening paragraph from Pitchfork's TCH EP review becomes:
Quality control has never been much of a problem for Boards of Canada. With only three full-lengths and three original EPs to show for its 11-year discography, the duo has magnified its legacy at least partly by indulging in generous spells of inactivity. The infrequency of BoC's output has not only fed into the mythos of their carefully cultivated brand, it's also engendered a level of trust that's served as a consolatory point of pride for fans who've felt shut out by the duo's otherwise total remove from the peripheral obligations (live shows, videos, interviews) of being a musical act.

i openly confess my growing frustration with the lack of any kind of activity.
yes they have lives and aren't under any obligation to blah blah blah, i understand and accept that
but i still find it annoying how long it takes between BoC releases. i'm a bigger fanboy for BoC than most any other band i can think of except maybe Cusco and a few others, but i'm not a big enough fan to sit at the edge of my seat for 10 years with the same level of anticipation.

well, i got an email anyway...

that is not what he is sayin and you know it,one official update from warp would be appreciated, the problem in my opinion with radio silence is people picking apart the existing releases, genuine interest into what they are up to should not be treated as expectant or rude, chill the boots

Although I'm not really frustrated or anything, I know what you mean..
No gigs nor any commercial lameness? I'm cool with that.
Although if I were a musician the size of BoC and I knew there were hundreds or thousands of fans eagerly awaiting new material I would probably feel that a website update would be very much in place. I can understand why the brothers like to live in the shadow but putting out your products in mass quantities (as opposed to limited releases) inevitably will generate fans who like to keep up to date.
Ah well, no hard feelings. I bet there's something cooking in the Pentland Hills

gettin frustrated at the attitude towards simple enquiries, the only reason people are so eager to know is because no other band that I can think of only release music and do nothing else,it is their business what they do and how they do it,the bros have never disappointed, stop pointin the finger at decent fans when they just wanna know the odd detail or fact

I'm not frustrated like I said, I got worse things to be frustrated about

.
But in the light of their Why? remix for example, they could have put a little note about it there.

i gotta call you out on that one man
i'm pretty sure there are bands (though admittedly few of them are as awesome as BoC) who update when working on a record.
to give one godawful shitty example, NIN is really prolific with mid-work updates. i apologize for that example, but it stands
anyway i'm not desperate for a new BoC record and i don't hold it against the brothers in the least, alls i'm saying is don't be surprised if my interest in them wanes as time goes by with no updates, and if when they announce the new record, my reaction is "jeez, finally" rather than "SWEET I KNEW IT!!"

i would be interested in such an update from boc. I think everyone on this forum would be as well. It's kind of silly to say that in response to people complaining about the lack of updates/announcements on the site

Not so sure about that to be honest. Fans are always interested to know what's going on. I think we all know (and actually in a perverse way, enjoy?) that BOC are never going to be giving monthly interviews, or studio webcasts. It's more really just the basic desire to know that something is moving towards completion somewhere. Whilst I respect completely their artistic right to do things their own way, I also feel that by shutting themselves away so completely, so deliberately(?), so they actually risk alienating their fans. I've always said that for my money they can take as long as they like as long as the quality remains high, and personally I still feel that way. But then again, people can only live on scraps and rumour for so long before apathy and boredom sets in. It's a fine line to judge.
But then again, maybe that's what they want? Perhaps they are uncomfortable with the attention? Or am I reading too much into it? Who knows....
Still, I guess all will be forgiven once the next release lands. That and if they actually play a few shows before I die? Maybe? No? Well, I can dream can't I...?

they say themselves they have suffered from folk fillin in the gaps so why not an update?it negates harmful scrutiny...

This statement makes me think you know nothing about what drives this board. We'd eat that shit up and you know it!

i think its a double edge sword. i would like to see maybe a little sign of life...an update a mysterious post...something..only thing is, if it's something little like new pictures on the website or the background changes it will only make matters worse..speculation will start flying, i will be anxious and on the edge of my seat for something more concrete..all that is fun but dammit man, i am already to that point now. so i guess at this point i would rather i have an update like....New LP is coming out 04/15/2008 with a make over to the website or a video like invacation with just a date at the end...
either way...something will eventually come...
