Will we ever get to see BOC live?

Yes. They will do a full World tour after the next album is released

Yes. They will do a low-key hush-hush mini-tour of UK/Europe at some point fairly soon (2 years?)

Hmmmm. Not so sure. Maybe if I stalk the Pentland Hills around the next Red Moon and get lucky...

Don't care. BOC are studio artists and couldn't hope to live up the expectations playing live.

The Fantasy BOC Live Thread

Sat Aug 09, 2008 11:41 am

OK, so for my 600th post (frightening), I thought we'd have a bit of fun. Also, I'm bored of speculating about if/when another album is due, or whether we will finally get to hear Hooper Bay, etc, etc, etc. So, in the true fanboy spirit, I thought we could discuss something else. The "other" great will they/won't they debate which seems to crop up every now and again. Also, it's a blatant attempt to see if MDG has anything to say on this...

So the poll question, honestly, do you believe you will ever get to see BOC play live? For me, they are the last great artist that I've not seen live where I would - frankly - sell a kidney to go an see them play.

Also, I'm sure we've all seen the photos and heard the pirate tapes of some of the few shows BOC have done. But given these were, what, six/seven years ago now? - how do YOU imagine a BOC gig today would be. I want setlists, venues, ambience, visuals, right down to what the merch guy is selling on the T-Shirt stand.

To kick start the whole thing, here is my (very hastily put together) setlist. For simplicity I've stuck to the "major" releases, but I'm certain you'll disagree and want that favourite Old Tune added. Also, I've not included the plethora of short-stuff/interludes, or indeed any new stuff. So, the house lights have just dimmed in the huge marquee erected on Arthurs Seat, overlooking Edinburgh (yeah, I can dream), a massive roar goes up, which fades back to a few whistles and shouts, a huge orange hexagon backdrop lights up very, very slowly, and there are you-know-who looking very nervous, but grinning like idiots behind their laptops and keyboards as they start with...

Geogaddi in full.
No encores.

Sat Aug 09, 2008 1:23 pm

I don't want them to play live. Unless they're sticking to unreleased stuff.

Sat Aug 09, 2008 3:15 pm

I would want them to really actually dj, like mix their tunes instead of just hitting play.

I could invision....

Starts off with no lights....then blue filters everywhere....the beginning of a faster music is math....then

BOOM! the lights go on with the first beat...then when the jangly beat comes in all this psychedelic patterns are all over the place...

this slowly morphs into the Korona beat...
that fizzles out and then the MbM remix comes on...
then an awesome never before heard revised version of forest moon...
telephasic workshop...
june 9th...
nlogax...
king of carnival...
1969...
then it finishes with the awesome 11 minute warp10 track.

I'd definitely go to that.

I chose "Don't care. BOC are studio artists and couldn't hope to live up the expectations playing live."

My expectations would be sky high...

That would be incredible..

Of course, the set list would have a large percentage of unheard, unreleased (AWESOME) material, nonchalantly mixed in with all the favorites.

Sat Aug 09, 2008 8:43 pm

I would tell my daddy to get Boreds of Canada to play my Sweet Sixteen party, and I would get it, because I get everything I want!

They have done a DJ set before, for a festival. But yeah, sort of like how Daft Punk plays, that could be cool.

Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:52 pm

I imagine them playing at working mens clubs playing Hopper Bay backwards on an old tape recorder whilst talking over the top of it and getting drunk and then starting a fight when someone says "You sound like Chapterhouse".

Or more likely about 3 gigs in intimate venues, like the one I saw them at *buffs nails*.

Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:53 pm

Yeah yeah, yadda-yadda.....

(actually I believe you)

Mon Aug 11, 2008 8:00 pm

I had a piss next to Sean Booth at Test One as well. ner ner

...or maybe it was Rob, I forget which is which. The blonde one anyway.

Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:28 pm

doing covers of the current top 20 singles and a tapdance routine as an encore

No idea. I don't remember them Djing in all honesty so it was either rubbish or I didn't catch them. We had to leave pretty early though so if they were on after Andrea Parker I wasn't even there.

You just blew my mind.

I tossed all of those in a playlist and you reinvented the image I had of boc live.

I would be dancing my ass off

edit: this tour better not be europe/uk only!
edit2: would be an excuse to visit though!

Old news I'm sure but I'm listening to the Warp 10th Anniversary show bootleg and I can't believe how different Telephasic Workshop sounds!?

Except for the old tunes stuff that sounds reely good.
