In no particular order...

Rodox Video

I like this version better than the Boc Maxima version.

Sequoia

A really classy, charming track... You can hear their sense of humour as well as their amazing talent in this one.

5.9.78

One of the most beautiful compositions I have ever heard by any artist. When I hear music like this I just want everyone in the world to hear it and just stop fighting and love each other.

Old Tunes Vol. 1 track A08

This is the one with the sped up 'June 9th' beat. I actually like it more than the proper June 9th.

Old Tunes Vol. 1 track B11

Love the flute counter melody in this track... and when it 'opens up' at 01:25... Love it!

Old Tunes Vol. 1 track B14

Just gorgeous airy guitar work drifting into oblivion as it progresses... Everyone should hear how beautiful this is and just STOP fighting and love one another...

Kiteracer 2

One of BoC's most emotional pieces in my opinion... Too bad so few people have heard it... Gorgeous...

Magic Teens

This BoC 'interlude piece' really has it all; the psychadelic synth line, the bright, airy arpeggio (think 'Poppy Seed Reprise) and the bassy undertones so you don't get too comfortable...

Northern Plastics

A beautiful little composition, and the synths letting it out sound like they're just about to die... Vintage BoC

Buckie High

Along with '5.9.78' this is easily my favorite track from the 'Old Tunes' trilogy and definately in my top five BoC tracks... I don't see how anyone could hear how chill and awesome this track is and not fall in love with BoC.
'Buckie High' more that *any* other peice of music I have ever heard (and this includes all the 1980s synth pop and new-wave I was raised on) reminds me of my childhood... hanging out with buddies on warm summer evenings... The future was so bright, full of endless possibility.
I want everyone to hear what I hear; feel what I feel, when this track plays...

Great topic lands end, it's like you read my mind. I just put together a compilation of my favorite Old Tunes tracks last night, and I was gonna start a topic similar to this. It was really tough to come up with just 10, and these are in no particular order cause they're all so good.

Finity (A Few Old Tunes) - Makes me think of the arrival of Springtime. That first sunny morning when you can actually walk outside without a jacket and hear the birds sing again. I like it and it makes me happy. :D

Skimming Stones (A Few Old Tunes) - I must've heard this close to a thousand times and I never get sick of it. One of the best from AFOT and Maxima.

I Will Get It Tattooed (A Few Old Tunes) - Makes me think of a parallel universe where up is down, down is up, and everything is backwards.

King Of Carnival (A Few Old Tunes) - I have no specific reason for liking this track, it's just good!

5-9-78 (A Few Old Tunes) - See above post by Goiter Sanchez. I'm with ya buddy.

Track 6 (Old Tunes Vol. 1, Side A) - One of the only tracks that has ever brought tears to my eyes. Also sampled in Helios' Seven Forty Seven Remix.

Track 13 (Old Tunes Vol. 1, Side A) - This illustrates perfectly why I love their music so much. Straight up fucking raw, destroyed sounds twisted into a dark and dreary atmosphere.

Track 12 (Old Tunes Vol. 1, Side B) - This is just a damn good track, dark and crunchy!

Mukhinabaht (Old Tunes Vol. 2) - Another great skittering, crunchy beat. A sign of good things to come on MHTRTC, kind of reminds me of "Pete Standing Alone"

Zander Two (Old Tunes Vol. 2) - Sounds like it was made on a crappy 1980 model Casio keyboard, but I like it.

Mon Feb 27, 2006 6:19 pm

I totally forgot about "Mukhinabaht" that is one of my other favs. It totally reminds me of pete standing alone as well.

Mon Feb 27, 2006 8:02 pm

I'm going to be listening to old tunes vol 1 today (finally found it).. for the first time.. :D

which songs on this are already on aFOT and vol 2, or maxima,hi scores? i know some are. the first tune sounded familiar, and i know finity is there, its playing right now :P

who's Helios btw? *dodges beer bottle*

can we count the old boc website tracks in our top 10? i know the "flutes" track will be on my top 10.. its beautiful!!1oneone

helios is a musician who used to post on the yahoo board, got signed to merck records and released a really nice album. he also made some really great acoustic BOC remixes.

skimming stones
rodox video
Nova Scotia Robots
M9
carcan
original nlogax

though samples from many of the songs on a few old tunes/old tunes were re used for later songs

We've Started up, Nine Rubber Wisdom, David Came..., and Alpha Rainbow are all on Old Tunes Vol. 2. And 5-9-78 is on A Few Old Tunes.

You know there are 3 versions right?

-A Few Old Tunes
-Old Tunes Vol. 1
-Old Tunes Vol. 2

I can't beleive people still have this mixed up, check Fredd-Es discogs.

Mon Feb 27, 2006 10:34 pm

huh....wait...

Mon Feb 27, 2006 10:36 pm

Someone help me out here.

Mon Feb 27, 2006 11:12 pm

Derail is right, there are three seperate Old Tunes versions out there. It took me a while myself to figure it out. Don't worry though, maybe pretty soon we'll be saying "Box Set: Disc One" and so forth.

Tue Feb 28, 2006 12:39 am

Track 01 from OT Vol. 1 CD 1 (What a way to kick off the OT)

Track 12 from OT Vol. 1 CD 1 (I agree Derail, Kick-ass track)

Track 08 from OT Vol. 1 CD 2 (This melody really frightens my girl)

Fly in the Pool (I can just picture the fly's last gasp)

Mukinabaht (Sticks in your head)

Kiteracer 2 (Was there ever a Kiteracer 1?)

Northern Plastics (Commercial distributer of all fine Tupperware products)

Buckie High (Not to be confused with Buckie Jr. High)

Powerline Misfortune (Very Sad)

Boqurant (Also Sad)

5-9-78 (I say the most beautiful OT)

Tue Feb 28, 2006 6:54 am

ooh great topic:
- trapped
- 5-9-78
- king of carnival
- Track 13 (Old Tunes Vol. 1, Side A) this was the most "my bloody valentine" sounding BoC track...until i heard the "wouldn't you like to be free" clip
- a few more from the OT that has unlabeled tunes, but i still get them confused..

i guess mine's a top five then

My favorite of the Old Tunes tracks overall is definitely King of Carnival. That one is just perfect. The full list will take up way too much space in the thread, so I'll omit that out of courtesy.

Honorable mention to Nova Scotia Robots and Davie Addison for having my favorite synth lines ever.
