I listened to a really cool episode of a podcast called 'Stuff to blow your mind' last night on the wonders back-masking and hidden tracks on CD and vinyl, I knew they would need to mention BoC.. And they did! They talked briefly about the 'God with horns' sample in YCFTS and then went on to talk about some cool ways in which music is hidden on vinyl, most notably a part where they discuss some records having multiple lead-in grooves, or having grooves hidden between grooves, leading the stylus to follow different grooves depending on where exactly the stylus was placed on the record at the beginning of a track! Also how on one of Jack Whites albums there are grooves hidden under the actual label of the record itself which are playable by placing the stylus on the label.

It all made me wonder if maybe there are some hidden grooves on BoC records, But I figure they would have been found by now.

The rest of the show was mostly quite common knowledge I guess but still a fun listen.

Here's the link to anyone who wants to hear it..

So I asked a certain AI to generate a poem about Boards of Canada's fifth album and it's release date. I got a master work:

Boards Of Canada's 5th Album Poem

The wait for Boards of Canada's fifth sound,
Has left fans yearning for what's to be found.
Rumors swirl and speculation grows,
When will the release date finally show?

The anticipation builds with every day,
As fans hope for a new album to play.
With sounds that evoke memories of the past,
Boards of Canada's music will forever last.

The date is unknown, a mystery untold,
But the wait will be worth it, we're told.
Their music takes us on a journey through time,
A soundscape of memories and emotions combined.

So we'll wait with bated breath, counting the days,
Hoping soon their fifth album will be released in ways.
A work of art, a masterpiece to behold,
Boards of Canada's music will forever unfold.

Also a poem about the lack of BOC releases on Warp's label:

Warp Records, a label known for its eclectic sound,
Releasing music from artists that are both underground and renowned.
From Aphex Twin to Autechre, they've got it all,
But one name is missing, leaving fans to feel small.

Boards of Canada, a duo with a unique style,
Their music evokes memories, making fans smile.
With sounds that are both nostalgic and new,
Fans eagerly await for more music from the two.

But as time goes by, and releases come and go,
Boards of Canada are nowhere to be found on the label's flow.
Fans wonder why, and speculate with glee,
When will their music finally be released by Warp Records, can it be?

So as we wait, with bated breath, we hold on tight,
To the memories of Boards of Canada, a duo so bright.
And hope that someday, their music will once again grace,
The ears of fans everywhere, released by Warp Records with taste.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

Enlightening quotes that epitomizes being a BoC enthusiast.

"It is always darkest before it goes pitch black"
"A great deal of pain and a fair amount of blood"
"Life is hard, then you die"
"We don't need no stinkin' badges"
"Despair is a narcotic. It lulls the mind into indifference"
"You can't make everybody love you. It's an exercise in futility, and it's probably not even a good idea to try"
Molest me not with this pocket calculator stuff.

Looking at Squid's release date (June 8-9th) makes me think it's either a coincidence or someone on Warp has a sense of humor!

I'm sure some of us were hoping for something to happen around TH's 10th but I don't think they'd do it exactly on the date!

After talking with a fellow optimist, I've decided not to rule out this year and hope that BOC and OPN joint release something in the fall!

(Also, an autumn of BOC and OPN would be wonderfully dark)

In here is a tragedy, art thou player or audience?
Be as it may, the end doth remain:
all go on only toward death.

There is nothing which cannot become a puppet of fate
or an onlooker, peering into the cage.

Probably going to unveil some new tracks he cooked up during the pandemic. We might get a new album/EP before the gig or during the fall!

In that case, BoC 2024 probably. Would be the inverse of the 2010s with BOC preceding Aphex in 2013. Either way, we know BOC is on the way and Aphex is doing gigs so a new record is probably inevitable for both!

Gotta just hang in tight and we'll reach IDM mecca!

I was thinking... a release window of this length is very uncharacteristic for Warp. It's almost always 4-8 weeks between the initial announcement and the album/EP hitting store shelves, not 4 months!

Reckon there could be some significant shit going down between now and then?

I foresee a couple of Twitter likes of retrospective articles. Maybe even a retweet or two if they really want to get wild.
