They've allegedly been curating for more than two decades, I think it's safe to assume they won't include their barely passable or utter junk on the fabled bocset. Again: imo a bocset was never supposed to contain _all_ their old songs, rather a cherry picked selection. And that process takes time. A lot harder than just selecting all songs and dump it on an online streaming site, right?

Your inability to understand does not equate other people are not right too, there are all sorts of thinking out there, neuro-spiciness, etc. You just have to use the scientific method and accept the fact as it is.

If that's the answer, then so be it. I was simply trying to understand the reasoning behind this specific mindset, but I guess I never will.

I think deep down that we all know that BoC are done with their music career. Why would they ruin it with a follow up to tomorrow's harvest? Why? People keep banging on about a cold war/space race album? LOL -it sounds dreadful. Tomorrow's harvest was a warning and a goodbye and most of you greedy sods just thought it as an album and took no heed at all. I doubt they'll do a box set either. It's not their style.

Have you not been following any of the recent updates? Seems like they point towards something eventually coming out. I don't think deep down "we all know" that by the way. You aren't BoC's mouthpiece

Also we don't need to conflate hope with greed, want it or not fans will always be fans and hope for something despite your opinions.

I agree with you.
People crave entertainment and the show must go on, yet they fail to grasp that they are in no position to demand anything.
Heed the warning, for this is goodbye.

I agree with these comments.
if the boxset ends up happening, it will more than likely be the albums revamped, similar to how some tracks were revised for ATP and vice versa. And we're talking a real big *if* btw.

Boards of Canada’s albums are standalone projects. TH is definitely no metaphor for the end of their career. *clown emoji*

MDG told us a new album is on its way. What more confirmation do you need? A year after that confirmation BoC posted on threads to inform us that this channel is the place to follow for announcements and future news. You do the maths.

Oh yeah, the bocset, for over two decades we’ve seen quotes about this project. It’s definitely something the band and Warp have/had interest in. I wouldn’t rule it out easily. https://bocpages.org/wiki/Statements_from_Hexagon_Sun

For the BocSet, instead of a copper plate I reckon a stained-glass hexagon would be nice. Fans could put the lid on their window sill and it would make a nice pattern on the wall in the sunlight. :)

New music over a box set of subpar unreleased tunes, please.

Subpar, yes, unreleased, not used, not reworked or reworked and still not working to what they deem ok to release, I would bunch that in the general bin of "not ready for prime time" or as others call it, subpar.
Molest me not with this pocket calculator stuff.

They don't have to. There is no doubt that necessitates testing anything. They know we'll buy anything and everything they put out.

What is happening in this thread? Why does it have to be a new record vs bocset? Are they unable to release both? Why are we making so many assumptions about what the bocset would be? We don't know anything about the content or the state of its current existence.

But if we are making assumptions: If it's curated material and they have been holding on to it, surely it will be interesting, no? No one is forced to buy the hypothetical bocset. Imo if they did release it, I would certainly be interested in it. That's an opinion, I'm not forcing anyone else to buy it. I feel like that's what Sherbet Head was trying to express.

BoC will undoubtedly release the right songs that meet their standards, whether on LP5 or the fabled bocset or both.
Assuming any of this will be subpar is ludicrous.

From one of the newly translated interviews from around TCH times they told us they had a bunch of tunes left over from Geogaddi that they wanted to use for the new album, but it turned out they didn't fit the theme once they got into it. I'm not sure how that equates to subpar.

This place has devolved from a safe space of discussion and exchange to a toxic space of fanboying and sniping.

Yeah, I am looking at you, Fredd-E.

I'm going to take a break, clearly my input will continue to be ridiculed by all sorts of ad hominem attacks and snidely remarks.

There's not even an ad hominem attack in the post of mine you quoted. *shrug*
And if it's your right to speak of some of their unreleased music as potentially subpar, it's our right to defend that. That's a discussion. And I've given my reasons above. I'll do it again. They've been curating this bocset allegedly for decades. What would make anyone think they would put out subpar music on it? I'd say they rather put out no bocset than put out one with music not in line with their standards. Besides: I guess they have plenty of B sides from their LPs that would blow our mind. I think they could definitely compile a previously unheard not-subpar compilation. *ugh*

One aspect that might take a lot of time with a compilation is weaving a theme through it all while using older material created long before that theme was conceived. At this stage, I don’t think they would settle on ‘our formative tunes’ as a concept. I could imagine them creating new interludes as a kind of connective-tissue for the purpose of framing older works in a certain way.
