The brothers favorite films, where to find them?

This was taken from Fredd-E's site. The guys list their top 10 movies. I have tried to watch as many as I can (I still have some on my Netflix que list), but some of them aren't even listed on www.imdb.com Any ideas what these films are that i'm missing? Are they possibly from the National Film Board of Canada?

Michael Sandison's Top Ten Films

1. Be Glad for the Song Has No End (a documentary on Incredible String Band)
2. Picnic at Hanging Rock (a mysterious movie about 3 girls who get lost at Hanging Rock)
3. The New Numbers (???)
4. Heavenly Creatures (Peter Jackson's first serious movie. About a two girls who kill one of their moms because she tries to seperate them and their fantasy worlds. Unsettling and brilliant.
5. Dark Star (John Carpenters first movie. It will be in my mail tomorrow. Supposed to be set in space)
6. The Elephant Man (David Lynch film)
7. Dandelion Seed (???)
8. Followers (a student film from 2000 that I can't find anywhere)
9. A Man Escaped (a man escapes from a nazi prison)
10. Revolution (there are numerous films with this name, I am not sure which one he is referring to)

Marcus Eoin's Top Ten Films

1. Papillon (Ane of the best films i've seen in some time. A story about a man breaking out of a french prison. Many wonderful scenes)
2. Ice Core Drilling (???)
3. The Invention of Destruction (???)
4. Zabriskie Point (I might have to buy it off ebay, but supposedly its a challenging hippie film from the 60's without a real ending. People either love it or hate it)
5. Alice (edit: not Woody Allen's version, instead it's this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095715/)
6. The Andromeda Strain (Popular 60's sci fi movie. Lots of good colors and 60s sound effects. Cool mood)
7. Jesus Christ Superstar (you probably know this)
8. Diagram (???)
9. Capricorn One (haven't seen it, but its about faking a Mars landing)
10. The Wizard of Oz (yep.)

Picnic at hanging rock is very mysterious and eerie, make sure you see it in summer!
Heavenly creatures is not 'boc-ish' in my opinion.
Zabriskie Point is a must-see, like Picnic at hanging rock.
Wizard of Oz is a classic, it's a shame if you haven't seen the movie by now.
Elephant Man is great, but unbocish.

Other 'BoC-movies' (don't ask me why): Tess, all old Akira Kurosawa movies, My Summer of Love, all Pippi Longstocking movies, Smultronstället, Deliverance, Mean Creek, The Straight Story, Le dernier der fous, Insomnia, Videodrome, Old Joy

although not mentioned in either of the lists, 'silent running' is also one of their favourite films.

yeah ive rented like capricorn one and hanging rock..both were pretty good...i really wanted to see zabriskie point but alas nowhere to rent it

I think from what I've read that with Zabriskie Point your best bet is to find some second-hand VHS. It hasn't seen a DVD release as far as I know. Which is strange, because I believe Pink Floyd did the music for it.

From what I remember also, Harrison Ford had a cameo in this movie, which was later edited out.

I bought Andromeda Strain, but I didn't finish it for some reason. It was hard to watch movies like that in my apartment in college. I'll have to try again.

Logan's Run is also very Bocish.

For those looking for Zabriskie Point on DVD, this might be of interest:

It's a Region 0 PAL DVD. I don't know how the print is, and being that it's region 0 DVD that means it SHOULD work on American (NTSC) televisions, but someone else might know more. I've also seen rips of this posted on Bittorrent tracker sites in the past.

Ok, so this is a weird film. I was thrown off by the Woody Allen bit. If you want to watch this movie, I STRONGLY urge you to find the original Czech edition. The dubbings in English are so very, very bad- and distracting, imo.

However, if you love stop-motion, it's a fascinating movie.

I've seen Alice and it rules!

I've seen Heavenly Creatures and it suckes but!

I've seen The Wizard of Ozz, witch is one of my childhood favourites..

I've seen the elephant man, witch is the saddest movie I've ever seen

I've been dying to see Videodrome..the DVD is like $70 though cos its from the Criterion collection. Regardless, I will no doubt buy it sometime.

Check to see if they have www.netflix.com in Canada. You can have 1 or 2 dvds at a time for $10 a month delivered to your mailbox and they have a great selection.
David Cronenberg is a great director. If you thought Videodrome was weird then you should check out Naked Lunch. That movie had more "wtf moments" than anything i've ever seen. Just sit back and enjoy the ride with that one....

From what I hear WinDVD has an option to play PAL dvds on the PC if your television doesn't work.

I think its becouse a reverant got killed (in her fantasy) becouse of his religion.

Although I hate religious-extremist like those just as much as you do, it just didn't feel right. :wink:

I love the look of The Andromeda Strain. Visually amazing - hasn't dated much at all.

Picnic at Hanging Rock scared me. Especially when I found out that later on life imitated art for one of the characters.

I watched Picnic at Hanging Rock last night and it hasn't left my mind yet. The first 30 minutes of it was very surreal and it hasn't been until this morning thinking back on it that i'm noticing some of the hints and nuances in the film.
