I would hope and sorta think they'd chose others tracks from their 80,000,000 song archive if they ever did a release. These weren't meant for pubic ears, so quality of the tape not, they may not even want to remaster/release these tracks.

I've always been a little skeptical about how much they still have in the bank from 1987-1994 or so that we don't know about. There is a LOT of music known about from that era, whether we've heard it all or not. How much music can some people figuring out how to be creative make in that amount of time after all?

I really think if we got to hear complete copies of the other old releases, the only other treasure trove would be the pile of music they made between 1998 and 2002 for Geogaddi. I'm sure there is some other stuff since then but I'd think they've slowed down since TCH. I've just gotten the feeling since then that it isn't as effortless as it used to be.

Yeah, I wonder myself. I was really curious when Doors_Of_Perception said he originally knew R35TT as Marcus' picks of '94. Any more info on that DoP? Made me wonder if the tracks that have leaked were really just like a year's highlights, or a summers worth, or something more along a tighter timeline like that, as opposed to a collection spanning over 5 plus early years.

My bowl of honey would be album session/period tracks. Hi Scores, MHTRTC, Geogaddi and Campfire Headphase really gets me excited, and tracks during those periods that never found a proper home. Although, the thought of any archive release does, so...

I agree, I think that there is a chance we may see releases from the archives but most likely in the form of unseen tracks.

It's thrown around a lot that these weren't meant to be in the public domain, sourcing from the brothers themselves, but at the same time I would suspect that this is some of the best work they had produced at the time. Why else would they compile tracks into an actual physical releases to distribute? Out of their huge archives we know that only a handful of releases were ever actually distributed, the rest seems to be locked away in the vault, unfit for release.

Even if I'm wrong and these aren't stand out tracks, the releases have still been accepted as important milestones in the Boards of Canada discography. Finity, Dave Addison, 5.9.78 and Northern Plastics are tracks from these releases which I think are some of their best works - even after the release of Twoism. Other than those, there are many other great tracks featured on them. These compilations, regardless totheir importance in comparison to the entire archive, hold a lot of sentimental value for me and I assume many others - they deserve a proper release in the track listing we know them by.

It's up to you guys if you want the bootleg cover art for "R35TT" or not, because it's obviously not graced by the brothers themselves.

I'd like to see the artwork/cover, I suppose if it's unsuitable it can always be discarded in favour of some kind of fanart.

I think that tape name was disproven in the past but I could be misremembering. The funny thing is that overall, the music on R35TT is generally more fully formed than what you get on OTV in most cases, even on what's viewed as the classic tracks.

On the other hand, if you look at the songwriting, diversity of instrumentation and overall sound of R35TT, its hard to believe that all of those ideas could have been knocking around in their heads in the span of a single year.

Another point is that large portions of OTV, while maybe a little undercooked at times, seem closer to the instrumentation and songwriting that you'd find on Maxima on the more classic tracks. The R35TT material seems more full, but sounds older somehow. Really gives credence to the idea of OTV being odds n sods compilations and R35TT being their more complete work put together from a number of years.

The fact that the OTV tapes got out in the wild is pretty much down to them being compiled close to when Maxima was and it got into more hands than their older music had up until that point.

The thing I have a hard time reconciling that tape with the version Joyrex (?) had posted years ago. His version wasn't labelled at all, I don't think.

R35TT and its origins are so weird. It's been declared real by mdg, but with the caveat that the band had no part in compiling the music in that particular configuration themselves. If the tape is the real deal (at least musically) why did someone bother faking the handwriting?

Yes, ALL TAKE HEED: MPO94 IS A FAKE COVER. I have NO idea why it's labeled that, but it is. COVER FAKE - TAPE REAL (or at least a 1-1 copy).

As much as I really like all of this - and sincerely feel for you Doors_of_Perception (I too have lost far too many family members to cancer) - I would hold off on posting the audio until you get some sort of confirmation from the band.

I think there is enough interest expressed, with credibility given to this project, that putting up a donation link now, while waiting for proper go ahead, would be best for you.

The last thing you want to deal with is collecting a bunch of money and using it, only to have to turn around and owe a bunch of it to BoC (obviously worst case scenario, but it's always a possibility without having proper permission first!).

I hope you get what you need from this - but honestly, don't rush the goods. I would post the donate button first, then if you can, post the music. We've all waited this long, and again, you've got enough on your plate to worry about...the legalities of the content should be the last thing you need to worry about going forward!
