Yeah where did that come from? If it says "ambient" somewhere it's probably because there's probably no better word to describe it, like most of their music. Also whatever release you look at iTunes it lists Brian Eno as an influence.

No but I mean - I don't get this equivocation between "ambient" and "bullshit". It would seem to me that some of Boards of Canada's richest moments "Olson", "Constants are Changing", "Over the Horizon Radar", "Tears from the Compound Eye" etc etc are all quote unquote ambient and yet for some reason there seems to be quite a bit of fretting in this thread over the horrible possibility that the album might be "ambient".

Don't get it.

I don't think I could agree more. I'll be quite happy with a load of 'ambient bullshit' thanks very much.

I like ambient music, in a way.

Lustmord comes to mind, but that's nowhere near BoC, all I know is that TH as all new albums has a risk of being very divisive, because people expect something that will flow around axioms that they have, notions coming either from the cosecha work or previous BOC work or god knows what figment gathered over some cryptic post by someone who's a friend of someone who said...

That's why I think it's better to just keep a blank state of expectation, don't mean I am not excited as everything, but while I would love something Geogaddiesque, I am not expecting it, thunder doesn't strike twice. However I am REALLY looking forward to be submerged by emotions, and that is what art and music is all about.

Loving everything about it so far, brilliant artwork, song titles, the cosecha thing leading up to this, the fact they've been working on this for probably 8 years....I mean, this just can't go wrong. It will probably be the best thing i've heard in years.
In the meantime been listening to their back catalogue again, and yes I can safely say again that they are probably my most favorite band of all time!!!

fixd. and agreed

haha :) , well my main reason for browsing this forum would be so I don't miss out on some vital information leading up to the release. Like I had a feeling that maybe before the album there would possibly be an EP or something. 'New Clear Dawn EP' would be cool.
But I guess that's not going to happen.

Does this new album and subject matter have the feel of Terminator to anyone else?

I can't help but second that. Lustmord is the man, saw him live 3 years ago and it was a blast.

A bit off-topic but still, you BOC-lovers who like ambient music MUST try Gas (clever name eh) out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAe1UdPzKTo

Brian Eno's Lizard Point always sounded very BOC-ish to me.

I rode around the south island of New Zealand for six weeks and I mostly listened to Stars of the Lid (and BOC of Course). Stars of the Lid bring such a sense of calm and serenity to me, their music was perfect to watch the landscape go by as I rode my bike. Like mana from heaven
A clearance in a wooded area, you startle a deer, it runs into the pines. Vast turquoise lakes and icy rivers, crisp mountain air. A bald eagle soars above. The distant sound of a chainsaw. Redwood smoke

I'll agree with the love for Stars of the Lid. Seeing them live a few years ago on the tour for 'And Their Refinement of the Decline' was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Never understood 'ambient' music for them. It's not meant to be played quietly - when turned up loud enough, their music becomes a huge, enveloping experience that takes you somewhere else deep within. I can't say I listen to them too frequently, but when I do it's always very therapeutic and comforting. Favorite track is probably Dust Breeding from Avec Laudeunum.
