Back up on youtube, for the moment...

Oh the hype (again). :D

I just thought of something, maybe they wanted to show this to the audience only because they didn't want the fans to over exaggerate the video or the sound. But then I thought - they should have known that having it cut off on purpose would only cause the fans to be even more excited and would probably cause more exaggeration. I'm sort of off on this, I mean if it means new material or a hint of something to come then that would've been a good reason to have them cut off video, but if it's just a thank you then why would they want that?

that womans face in vid, i'm sure i've seen her before

Yep, I feel like I've seen this before, likely it's a still from a 70's sci-fi film.

Then again it could be a false memory planted just now by BoC.

I tried a reverse-image search with no luck, so I've gone to reddit to see if we can get this identified. Follow this link and upvote it and just maybe we'll have an answer soon... http://www.reddit.com/r/scifi/comments/ ... l_from_an/

That picture at first brought to mind The Brain That Wouldn't Die, but it also made me think of:

they are still very good at using imagery that makes you think of something that you've seen before, but probably haven't.

I have to agree. I think it was a cool subversion of a thank you speech, maintained their image and mystique. The arpeggio is likely a snippet lying around the studio, kind of generically representative of their current 'sound'.
I'm sure the work required was probably far preferable to them than attending the awards, a good bit of it probably commissioned by Warp anyway.
As always, though, it's fun to speculate and experience some of that excitement of last year, even if only a wee bit. Of course I could be completely wrong.

Edit to add - there's so much talk these days of how difficult it is for people to make a living from music, how there's no money in records, you have to gig constantly, do as much social media as possible, etc. BOC are in such a great position to be able to opt out of all that, do what they want to do, pull off stunts like this.

whether this is new material or not, it sounds really interesting, especially the beginning. sounds like a rockets taking off or some shit.

nope!

Was Vic Galloway wasn't it??

I like how the shapes that they used this time around looked more like tilted cubes, that when flattened look like hexagons. Really minuscule design thing, but I thought it was cool.

Completely irrelevant, but damn, Fredd-E, your living room looks cosy as hell.

indeed, exceptionally talented drummer, not a fan of the porcs myself, hit n mss, king crimson on the other - up there.
check him out running the fairly newish Nord Drum 2 synth for live drummers on youtube (perhaps BOC live may use something like that, i dunno)

they know it and they're happy with it, what it also says is they're not greedy (when is enough with pop and their €100 tickets?)but live within their means, enough to get by. its sets them apart from pretty much every artist out there thats famous. down with the celebrity. i hear artists championing it but still put themselves out there every time on social media for attention, sad hypocrites really. granted sometimes it has to work for a band to make a living but if their music can stand on its own it will do the talking and the earning.

its perhaps one of the most important aspects of BOC to me, i'm an introvert myself, talented but i don't want attention, just get on with it. i don't enjoy watching djs/laptops anymore, if i go out, i go out to dance, have fun. As Jeff Mills said about the super star dj, it was never supposed to be that way but just the dj in the corner, nobody noticed but danced. Nobody cares, I don't, I don't read lyrics anymore, i write my own but enjoy sound. I have perhaps a changed (strange) way of looking at live bands now, singing and gathering attention. I don't need to see that all the time, its the same thing, over and over and I think thats how BOC feel too, they want it to be special, different, theres a lot of high expectations on them, not another laptop dj again.

sorry for the rant, i'm drunk, i just got my exam results and were up there as i didn't expect. i won't be posting it in facebook either lol

Isn't anyone else going to remark that the synth part is a palindrome?

Sat Jun 21, 2014 4:45 am

reminds me of melody from Gemini.

That arpeggio reminds me very heavily of the soundtrack to the first Mass Effect game, it has that kind of curious, warm scifi quality to it. Perhaps that speaks more to my age than anything because that was probably inspired by 80s soundtrack work.
