There’s a good chance the YT “blue dot” means that a video was uploaded.

Two options:
1.) the new upload is set to private (to go live at a later date).
2.) the new upload is unlisted and can only be accessed by direct URL. (To be used at a later date).

Haven’t seen that before. It has the same profile picture as the bandcamp page. I’d say these are placeholder “pages” they claimed in order for squatters not to steal them first. They might never actually use them, but if they do they have them under their control.

By "having a field day," you mean they uploaded one video and changed their profile picture?

Is that really what someone who went to the trouble to gain unauthorized access to a BOC social media account would do?

Also, the Facebook data leak did NOT include passwords. It was personal data such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and birthdays. That's really bad from an identity theft perspective, but it would probably not help someone hack into the Hell Interface account.

And let's not forget we're talking about a band who's security obsessed to the point that they have ridiculously complicated solar alarms on their homes/studio to protect their recordings, and keep their work computers totally detached from the net.

I'm not at all buying the idea that they had a shitty password, got their account hacked by a mischievous fan, said fan posted one video and profile pic before calling it a day, and the band decided to leave up the unauthorized page and posts.

I'd feel a bit more confident if the video had tweaked the James Brown song somehow. If synths and/or beats were added like Midas Touch or Trapped, I'd have less skepticism. Also, Facebook? A bit disappointing if they're using FB to communicate.

But they've already been using Facebook to communicate? They have an official BOC Facebook account and they've been posting on it since 2011.

I honestly think their next project is going to involve the untrustworthy nature of media and the internet, so it makes sense that they're doing so much with social media.

the fellow who commented "Melted within the James Brown Hot Tub!" under the Raiders James Brown clip happens to be friends with Odd Nosdam on facebook. (Hell Interface liked the comment as well)

probably doesn't mean anything (i'm also friends with Odd Nosdam on Facebook, don't actually know him though)

seems like Odd Nosdam might accept a lot of friend requests, but i couldn't help but at least consider maybe this guy who commented actually knows something.

i'm a big fan of Odd Nosdam so i would never want to bug him, but i sometimes wonder how much he stays in touch with Boards of Canada.

I remember in my BOC-mania days (circa 2019) I politely asked Odd how much he stays in touch with BOC. He said they exchange simple greetings and "how are you's" but other than that, they're "super secretive."

Sometime in 2011-ish Boards' website had a black box show up in their discography page, completely out of nowhere.

It kept this place hopping for quite some time...then we had Record Store Day in 2013 and all hell broke loose.

Over simplifying it now, but at the time...a black box in a discography page caused quite a stir. I couldn't find anything on bocpages about it, but I did find a WATMM post about it one year on. I'm sure if you had the time to search this massive thread you'll find more, haha

For real though, it does seem strange how online they have been as of late, I don't want to judge them too much on their statements in the past but it seemed like they where never going to have an online presence, I get that things change and maybe their minds have changed in some aspects, still feels weird to know they might be browsing social media..
