I've always joked that TH is their "goth" album because nowhere other than goth/darker metal bands do you have that much gloom and misery on one album. Though I think they've admitted in interviews, they used to be a bit of a goth outfit so it makes sense.

For their next chapter, I don't essentially want them to change their standpoint on the world, (Mike said he had depression and was struggling with the existential thought of leaving his kids on this fucked up planet, and so TH is a valid and very accurate depiction of his mindset) but I do want some lighter/more melodic moments again. Because there is still beauty to be found in this world, if you know where to look. Fall, for instance, is beautiful even if it's simply a bunch of plants dying.

100% agree with you. Away from the chatter of the modern world still lies a beautiful paradise. Whilst I appreciate Tomorrow's Harvest, it's certainly an uncomfortable listen. I really enjoyed the brothers becoming more open in interviews around the time of The Campfire Headphase. I also love the playfulness of tracks such as the Dead Dogs Two instrumental. That track is subtle genius and I personally would love to hear them explore this approach more. Certainly looking forwards to see what the future brings.

I'd seriously love for this album to be even more droney/spaced out/atmospheric than Tomorrow's Harvest was. Calling back to stuff like 'Echus'. Maybe taking influence from drone acts like Natural Snow Buildings. Maybe using more acoustic instruments, focusing less on the synthesizers this time? It feels like Tomorrow's Harvest was definitely a super SYNTH album, its a quiet love letter to 70s and 80s synthesizers. As much as I love that, they should dial it back for the next release while still focusing on brilliant existential atmosphere.

I just can't wait for something new, and I'm sure all of you are feeling the same way. We will get something very, very soon. I'm very sure of it. :D

BOC and The Cure have another thing in common: They're long overdue for an album. But BOC, unlike Bob Smith, don't keep promising a double album in interviews and it never shows up.

Not sure if this has already been discussed but, what is the chance that the next release will be a joint release between 3 labels: SKAM, Warp, and Music70 with the teaser release on AMKS.live show?

It's definitely gonna be a join release with Skam. It would include Hi Scores and Aquarius if I were to make a BoCset.

Music video for Hell Interface track made by Jacobean (of the MASK 500 EP). Cool to see Jacobean still doing stuff.

What about a new Boards of Canada album for Warp, and a new Hell Interface album for Skam?

After all, BOC may be signed to Warp, but I'm not sure if Hell Interface is. They might still be on Skam for all we know

Yeah, but if I remember correctly, their first release for Warp (MHTRC) is a joint release between SKAM and Warp. So, why not do that with their (possibly) last release?

Also, I would love to have a proper Hell Interface release, a full-length would be great.

PS. Does anybody know why MHTRC didn't release under Music70 like most of their albums?

Does this mean, if Skam, Warp and Matador go out of business, BoC can't issue this album anymore?

Biznasty wrote:the 'BOCset' will be a dark gray rigid slipcase with a singular turquoise hexagon on the front and "boards of canada - everything you wanted" printed on the spine

The set contains a total of 13 standard black 12" discs, making it Warps largest vinyl release to date. The number of discs is also intentional.

A/B/C/D - Catalog 3
E/F - Acid Memories
G/H/I/J - Closes Vol. 1
K/L - Play by Numbers
M/N - Hooper Bay

O/P - Music Has The Right To Children b-sides (including 'happy cycling', unreleased tracks off 'BOC Maxima', and more)
Q/R - Geogaddi b-sides (including 'from one source all things depend', and more)
S/T - The Campfire Headphase b-sides (including 'macquarie ridge', and more)
U/V - Tomorrow's Harvest b-sides (including 'harvest ritual', and more unreleased material originally slated to release as a follow-up EP in 2015)

W/X - Misc. unreleased tunes, as heard in leaked "a few old tunes", "old tunes vol. 2", "random 35 track tape" mixtapes.

Y/Z - double sided etched vinyl of various mathematical concepts and boc-related imagery (pioneer plaque humans, boc compound, etc.)

Each set of records is housed in it's own sleeve with original and touched up artwork.

At the same time as this release, will be a brand new 2xLP Boards of Canada album with similar minimalistic artwork to the outer sleeve of the bocset. The album is themed around space travel and features long, droning synths with deep, spaced out drum patterns. The album is their most cohesive yet with most tracks building off the previous one as if the entire album was one continuous song. Elements and samples of their previous albums drift in and out of the mix and become more distorted and distant as the album goes on.

It's a big yes from me!

Don't forget the bonus Blu-ray containing their unreleased music videos and short films. Oh, and the hardback book of Hexagon Sun artwork and photography.

It probably depends on their specific deal but I'd assume in most cases, full ownership is restored to the artist once a label dissolves.

This is what happened with Rephlex, but then again, Rich and Grant aren't exactly cigar-chomping bigwigs. The terms were probably a bit more lax. It's likely a lot more complex with majors.

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC

I'm pretty sure MHTRC was only released on Matador in the US due to Warp not having distribution in the US at the time. Autechre did a similar thing back in the day, releasing an album and an EP on Trent Reznor's Nothing label due to Warp not having US distribution at the time. So, I'm pretty sure Matador have absolutely nothing to do with BoC anymore.

I feel like their next Hell Interface thing will be a release of that Cichli cover, or so I hope.

On the other hand I have no idea why there isn't a Music70 logo on Hi Scores, anywhere. Not even a mention of Music70 on the disc.

Huh? That's weird, because last I checked on Discogs, there's no mention of Music70 on any version of MHTRC. Guess I have to check again.

TH was very heady and manipulative all around. Starting with buildup ARG, reveal, art cover and tracklist, which you have to guess for a month how it will sound. Interviews were also good, some favourite quotes, paraphrasing:

-"studio build literally in the farm with cow and chickens"
-"there's no anyone business what we were doing all this time"
-"thousand of miles travelled just for one sample for Cold earth"
-"Reduce the human population"
-"Point of no return"
-"LESS HUMAN"

Everything about the rollout was beautifully crafted. You can tell they put so much energy into every little thing to create a very specific mood/style.
