I get this way of thinking honestly. As much of an optimist as I am and I always maintain hope that one day our luck shall change I do empathize with people who think this way.

After Syro, Aphex continued with three EPs. Perhaps they weren't up to some people's expectations but honestly I adore Cheetah.

BOC could have continued with the so called Harvest Transmission EP or even another Trans Canada but they chose not to.

The remixes were all quality but you could see them as favors to friends and comrades.

You think to yourself why are they so afraid of releasing stuff? I could see it as the pressure. In a way not even Aphex gets that much pressure from his base and critics because he releases whatever he wants. We have such a high standard for BOC that they probably don't want to simply dump stuff on the market.

I'd like to think that's the case but you never know they could loath their fanbase too. I like to think the best of people but I'm a realist and consider all sides and arguments.

I hope Micus come back at some point from now to TH's 10th. Maybe even the Stargate Zine will mark the start of something. One can only hope. They're such quality artists that the dearth of product is a shame, but I hope one day they'll return more awesome than ever :D

Nah it would probably be something about BoC hating computers, like TCH again

Yeah no flat earth stuff please lol. I have a feeling the brothers would like to stay as far away as possible from internet lunacy conspiracy stuff considering how far and twisted it's become..

Still think something is not so far away. I'm sure there's a reason for a possible delay, but I don't think it's anything grand. I don't think they're worried about pressure aside from maybe the pressure they put on themselves creatively.

Whatever new stuff comes out, I hope there's some return to a kind of spooky, folklore / woods vibe to it

Could be worse, you could be a Cure fan

Robert Smith...otherwise known as lying Bob. The guy loves telling everyone stuff and then never pulls the trigger on any of it.

The only reason it's forgiveable is because he's fucking Robert Smith. What else does he have to prove?

Much to the contrary, I believe the bros have stuff to prove because of their sheer lack of output compared to Robert and the cliffhanger they left us on. There's a feeling in the air that things aren't over yet

What is this “I Feel Good” thing people keep referencing? I must have missed it at the time and I can’t find anything about it anywhere.

You forgot the part where RDJ released 258 unreleased songs spanning most of his musical career

You're comparing artists that have totally different creative processes. The amount of stuff Aphex Twin has released is irrelevant to BOC's output - they have completely different approaches and different ideas about what they want out of their music.

they're signed to the same label, and they're both part of the big idm trio (boc, afx, ae)
they might have different approaches concerning their music, but at the end of the day there's not a world of difference between the two. comparing them is inevitable
plus we're just having fun. take it easy

Two people can make really similar sounding music but still have different creative processes.

I'm not made or anything, it's just that I see this sort of thing in lots of other fan groups too. For example, I'm a huge fan of the Kingkiller Chronicle trilogy by Pat Rothfuss; the second book came out in 2011 and he's been working on the third and final book for over a decade. The Kingkiller subreddit has gotten incredibly toxic to the point where people are constantly talking shit about Rothfuss because the 3rd book hasn't been released yet, saying he's "not even an author anymore" and comparing him to Brandon Sanderson, who publishes a new book every year. Basically saying "if he can do it, Rothfuss can too, he just hates his fans, he's not even trying, etc."

And what I always try to point out is that creativity isn't just like, say, building an Ikea furniture set, where there's a set of instructions and you can do it exactly in X amount of time if you work hard. Art is extremely personal and people create in so many different ways - one author might sit down and write 5 pages a day no matter what, while another might spend a week editing and re-editing a single page until they have something they think is perfect. Neither's better than the other.

There's one difference between BOC and Aphex that should be taken into account. For a while in the zeroes, unreleased music was constantly promised from a personal representative of Hexagon Sun but by 2013, they basically told us in the interview that it was for themselves and their kids.

So indeed they changed their mind and I've got nothing wrong with that, but...why would they have a guy get everyone's hopes up and then pull it away at the last second?

Meanwhile Aphex dumps all his unreleased music online for no reason other than he loves his fans.

I prefer BOC over Aphex by far, but that sure wasn't a kind move on their part.

They're free to do what they want, but I can feel how I want about their decision. Hopefully they change their mind again though :)

Re: GENERAL NEW RELEASE SPECULATION TOPIC

The following isn't really speculation, but maybe fodder for future speculation.

For those of you who have siblings, maybe you've already considered this, but sometimes I wonder if after a lifetime of growing up together, and decades of working and creating music and art together, can the long gaps between releases be attributed not just to their level of perfectionism, but also to how Mike and Marcus relate to one another over the years? Typically, as people grow older, even close siblings or lifelong friends go in different directions, hold different views, want different things, ect.

I imagine it can't always be easy to work closely with your brother no matter how deep of a bond they share. And now, as two people reaching middle age, raising families and so forth, perhaps the idea of hunkering down and trying to create something amazing just isn't as necessary or exciting as it used to be. I mean, think of all the time they've spent together since childhood and all the things that have happened up until now. We have no idea what goes on between the two, but we know it's a lot of history and maybe not always good times.

One last thought. Tomorrow's Harvest, which as we've been told is an homage composers who scored sci-fi and horror flicks from the 70's and 80's, is also an album that tells the story of the apocalypse, or the collapse of everything as we know it. When you make that record and put it out, where the fuck do you even go from there? Sometimes I think they painted themselves into a corner. Perhaps this was intentional, done as a means to really force them to think differently on their next project, or maybe that was just what it ended up as. Again, we'll probably never know.

You're pronouncing both BOC and Australia wrong  Either O-stra(y)-lee-uh (O as in Ozzie) or A-stra(y)-lee-uh (A as in Alone) are acceptable. The Y in there is optional, depending on how quickly you're saying the word.

BOC is pronounced like Rock.
