I'm addicted to BoC remixes at the moment because it's my least heard stuff. I've heard EVERYTHING else they've made in their back catalog... so I'm pretty happy that I found these remixes.

it'll keep me from going insane waiting for harvest.

and also "If I'm sinking in, laughing at somethin' sunken then I am."

and "Blowing kisses at disinterested bitches." is a pretty great line too.

I saw this thread and had to add my 2 cents. I wrote about this remix somewhere on another thread too. For me, it's by far the best BoC remix, and as much as I love Beck and the original version, the BoC remix is so much better. When it came out, I had the girl of my dreams and the Broken Drum remix was like the theme song to that feeling and relationship for me. I only listen to it once in a while now, because it's connected to such strong emotions and personal nostalgia in my life. I can't even listen to the last 2 minutes without crying. Sorry so sappy. Probably in the top 3, if not the #1 most beautiful melody and sound I have ever heard. Love it.

For me, I'd have to say yes, mostly because of my aforementioned reasons, but Last Walk Around Mirror Lake would be my 2nd. I wish there was an instrumental version of Broken Drum available as well, I love Beck's vocals but it would be cool to hear it without them too.

There is! As I said earlier in this thread, has it not been released?

I'm a bit confused by your statement. You say "there is" but then you don't know if it's been released or not? At any rate, if there is, I've never found it. I mean the BoC remix.... not the regular version. Although I've never heard Beck's OG version as instrumental either.

Edit: I just saw your original post. No, as far as I know, an instrumental version has never been released. I said "I wish there was one (released, that is).

Thing is, I'm pretty sure I have the instrumental version. I had always assumed it had been released. My pops actually mastered it, and its somewhat normal to have an instrumental version of a remix mastered at the same time.

honestly, though, check out the one with vocals too, there is a reason "why" BoC picked the track to remix. The lyrics are actually quite omnipotent.

Well this makes much more sense to me. Really cool that your dad mastered it. If there was an instrumental version, he would have heard it for sure.... and you may have had it laying around the house but I'm almost positive it was never released to the public. FIND THAT SHIT. :o

I love the vocals, I thought it would be cool to hear it with out the main vocals... but not without Beck's Oohs and ahhhs.... they are crucial to the sound in the last 2 minutes. If they weren't in the instrumental mix, it would be much less effective.

Also: Do you think BoC picked it? I always had the idea that Beck issued songs out to be remixed by artists he liked.... since the Guero album was originally released as a deluxe edition with the regular version and all the remixes at the same time... It was only later that he released the Guerolito of all the remixes separately.

Either way, BoC took the time to do it. Meaning they favored the track in some way.

One reason for this I think, is the amount of dead space in the original. They had a very nice canvas to work with, perfect for them to liberate and rectify their sounds.

Yeah, true... It's really like 2 totally different songs except for the lyrics. Kind of off topic but I really liked Heaven Hammer, (the "Missing") remix by Air from that album too.

Why? is the artist's name, mate. A member of Clouddead, one of the greatest hiphop crews around at the turn of the millenium

Easy mistake to make :) Check out this album and see what you think:

http://www.discogs.com/cLOUDDEAD-cLOUDDEAD/master/74667

there are some moments of absolute pure genius on there... (the whole Jimmy Breeze section for instance)

2nd album also well worth checking.

Not to get too off topic.... I love cLOUDDEAD's first album, but, personally, I always thought their 2nd album "Ten" was a pure masterpiece. It was way more focused. Rifle Eyes is stunning: http://youtu.be/Vb_MZkbG3UY
