Yeah at first I was maybe those voices from that session something like that, but then I read, that it's from season of the witch, and it seems that this inspiration was very well hidden...anyway, I always imagine this track as two naughty girls, the flute and the drums...

One of my favorite tracks on the album. They do have reoccurring themes of martyrs and atrocities and it is a horrible story. She refused to be a part of their little therapy session which aside from the tragedy of her death is comical that she was being obstinate and probably thought the whole idea of the session was complete bullshit. This group puts out material to be interpreted by the individual in whatever way. The magic of that is that it means different things to everyone. Nice find though. Really a terrible tragic event.

Funny to think that one of the most uplifting and euphoric tracks on the album could have been inspired by something horrible.

Is that an appropriate response though? I mean yeah it's god awful but isn't that kind of the intent- something with really sinister undertones. I don't think the right reaction to that is to stomp it out..

I had a feeling it was about a coat. The song just screams it!

And I read Candace's story when this was posted the other day- just awful. Chilling to think such a thing could happen. I couldn't believe what I was reading. I prefer thinking about a coat when listening to this track.

Plot twist: the coat is about Candace!!

Do you guys think that even this might be a bit too obscure and messed up for BOC?

I don't know if that is truly the inspiration. Nice catch, however. The track contains audio from the movie, "Season of the Witch."(1972). It took forever for me to find and watch it online. Kinda neat when I heard the conversation that happens in the song.

It's just the names of a couple of girls that were friends.

Blimey.

What is it about the name "Watkins"?

Reading through the responses in this thread is somewhat funny to me, since, as long as I can recall, I would describe the overall sound of the track as "nukes on playgrounds".

But, this does make me ponder the question(s): Are BoC "edgy"? or would BoC get "cancelled" in today's age?

I thought it had already been discovered that the title was from the two girls in that porno?

Anyway... Putting that aside. Aren't you really glad that Boards of Canada have never openly pushed for the $$$ commercialisation of their music. Never going on tour. Never really even releasing much (only when they have to). That sends out a really powerful message doesn't it? Don't worship. Don't get carried away. This was for you. Enjoy it and be happy. It's just a story. It doesn't matter. We are all children of the sun.

If we apply Occams Razor then yes, but I don't think that's been outright confirmed.
