I don't know if anyone on here has tried/mentioned it yet, but I played the album forwards and backwards at the same time...what a mess! Hahaha
You're gonna carry that weight.

Yeah That's Right wrote:I think the fact that everyone is suggesting their own preferred track order says it all... there is no super secret special track listing waiting to be discovered. Which is fine, but, yeah, I'm with Starblazer.

I think the main basis for twin tracks which Boards alluded to has already been suggested, in that Collapse is the counterpoint for the two halves of the album which tell of different 'narratives', both reaching the same conclusion. The track listing that people hear is the track listing which I assume the Sandison brothers carefully selected. It doesn't make sense that they'd have chosen a purposefully inferior tracklist for the purposes of a top-secret fan treat. Or does it...?

I think this sums up how I feel about alternate track orders at this point. There is a metric fuck-ton of cryptic shit in this record we have yet to unpack I reckon but I think its unlikely were supposed to do much other than listen to it a lot. Choosing your own track order seems akin to the idea of everyone having their own "reality tunnel" as Robert Anton Wilson would say. I think its up to the listener to choose their own narrative. Are you optimistic or pessimistic about societal collapse or non-collapse? Is Apocolypse necessarily a negative concept since its perhaps better defined as a pulling back of the curtain?

Having wrestled with ideas about Peak and Collapse for about a decade now, I find it interesting how this record reflects my own feelings about it. I would get depressed about it and then forget about it and be in blissful ignorance only for it to return. yes we're still facing these crises!

Although collapse is a palindrome, I am not sure the record is to be "folded" at this point necessarily. Some tracks also seem like they are compressed. Not as in audio compression but thematically. New Seeds and Come to Dust both seem like compressed versions of a positive and negative narrative, respectively.

Not every track is designed to fit together. The structure of the album reminds me of Dark Side Of the Moon with the whole Speak to me / Breath, Money then the Brain Damage Eclipse thing going on .

I don't think i'm going to mix anymore tracks not because I don't think they might sound nice together but simply because there is no trace evidence that the tracks can possibly match or were ment to fit together .

What may have happened with this album is that it was likely made as a few long ambient tracks .Perhaps how they first envisioned how the album was to sound . Then who knows, some friend might have mentioned that 80's VHS horror movies were made as master tracks and they always ended abruptly . That concept for the album might have came later on then they re-cut the tracks accordingly . That or they really did do it that way first on purpose . Either way i think it's cool .

Though if we think we can fold the album in on it's self to reveal a secret key to opening another dimension ... well we might be getting ahead of our selves .

that would be some icing to the cake. imagine a 2nd half to the album coming out, 17 more tracks that continue on from each of these current 17. ain't going to happen though. CTD is already the follow up to RFTD

Has anyone tried Sundown + Reach For The Dead? It sounds to me like a more obvious pair, without any signature or speed change they match perfectly.

I only recently joined this forum so I hadn't gotten to it yet, but my first thought when I heard and saw Reach For The Dead was 'Wow man, this has a real Koyaanisqatsi feeling to it!'. Especially the part in the Desert, with the shots of the huge man-made yet alienating constructions.

My first impression was it looked a lot like Jean-Teddy Filippe's Documents Interdits.
I saw it for the first time on French television somewhere around 1993, I don't quite know how much it was seen in other countries.
It's a collection of 12 short films, and RFTD seems to have references to each of them.
Especially Le Pique-Nique and Les Fantômes, which both deal with the desert, ghost sounds, visions, abandoned places...
MHTRTC already felt a lot like Documents Interdits by coincidence but those latest videos made me think BoC know about JT Filippe's work.

Thanx for the introduction, never heard of this guy before. (I hope I'll be able to find version on some torrent site without a voice-over in French, which is way harder for me to understand (if at all) than English.)

If you find the Documents interdits, I'll have a look and translate any important bits from French. Keep me posted by PM please...
