just arrived back from a journey in my car down windy welsh countryside roads. tomorrow harvest being the soundtrack of course. got to say, i haven't known quite what to think about the whole build up to this release...its been a good few years since i've listened to BOC and obsessed over every minute detail...but I still regarded them as one of my favourite artists, and indeed one of the biggest influences on my life.

its been nice sharing experiences over the past month or so with like minded fans...the feeling of a little community of some sort coming together and unravelling the mysteries BOC set before us. although perhaps not contributing to posts as much as I had done say 4-5 years ago, i still followed with enthusiasm and interest.

anyhow, i popped the CD in and set off into a beautiful summers afternoon. the fanfare at the start really catches your attention, and for the remainder of the album you're very much in the world of Boards of Canada. there are so many classic BOC moments on this release. was so nice to here the three Lake Dolores tracks in full quality. the helicopter sample at the end of Gemini caught me off guard...swooping right around my car before falling into Reach for the Dead...

i could go on and on analysing each and every track...favourite track (at the moment at least) is Come to Dust whilst least favourite is Telepath. i understand completely that Telepath perfectly captures the mood and narrative of the album...but I suppose the darker elements just don't appeal to me as much these days...and whilst this album is laced with them, this particular track just felt a bit too obvious.

i'm very sure my thoughts on the album and the tracks on it will ebb and flow with each listen...next listen will be in my favourite spot with a set of quality headphones. i'm sure this experience will just open up a whole other world to the album!

Just back from a week on holiday, Tomorrow's Harvest was sitting in my letterbox. Haven't had the pleasure yet...need the house to myself for an uninterrupted listen, hopefully tomorrow. I deliberately haven't listened to anything yet, bar Reach for the Dead, nor read any in depth reviews.....

no doubt it's better, but I've heard the vinyl blows it even further out of the water. Does anyone have both and can compare? Must have now.

Local store had them out early. Figured to pick up the CD since I ordered the vinyl.

Nothing special inside. No card, no poster included. Oh well!

I just finished listening to Tomorrow's Harvest. I was eating chicken with pasta and cheese while I listened. IMMEDIATELY after the album finished I had diarrhea. Memories.....

Just past midnight on June 9th and I settled down to give a first listen to the CD.

All lights off, and no displays except for an occasional viewing of fuzzy, flickering and unstable black and white static with a barely readable 'NO SIGNAL' from a weak analogue channel on my television... Small glass of tequila on ice, Small torchlight for looking at the artwork when in the darkness, and a view of outside through the window.

Notes:

Jacquard Causeway is like gradually moving towards hope, approaching a light or something that lifts the spirit, as the swelling chords come in.

Just as Cold Earth faded out and Transmisiones Ferox started, all the street lights outside started to go out... This was an eerie experience.

Listening to Transmisiones Ferox previously, the lone pulsating, filtered harmony that follows the female voice was unsettling - but in the sudden darkness here, I found it chillingly terrifying - like the soundtrack to a nightmare or an extreme paranoia. After this, there was no more activity - no sign of people or cars - outside.

Shortly after, switched the wobbly static on (I dare say Transmisiones unsettled me and I needed a bit of illumination) and it was on all the way through Collapse... Intuitively switched it off just as Palace Posy started. Looked out the window at everything seeming still and ghostly during this, and it seemed appropriate, actually.

Around the middle of Split Your Infinities with the chords in full effect, a tugging sense of loneliness.. The whole of Sundown was also quite moving, which until now I haven't 'got' before - obvious, but it does indeed seems like a late outdoor piece, approaching the night.

New Seeds seems to start with an industrious feel, and the latter part is very positive and hopeful, like a situation in which it suddenly strikes that you can 'make something of this'; it lifts everything, like towards the end of Jacquard Causeway, but even more so.

There is a certain 'acceptance' in Come To Dust that makes the ending (credits?) less of a bump down than it would otherwise be - I think it's a good way of just bridging the complete contrast between New Seeds and Semena Mertvykh. The latter seems to be utterly treated in such a way that suggests being taken from some slightly deteriorated film score - incidentally only matched by Gemini...

Cinematic and, despite being weighted towards a brooding or bleak sound, with a range of moods - all the tunes have something interesting in them!

Well said. The writer in me wants to wax poetic about the bliss of my first listen just now, but I'm tired, and this album was... an experience. I simply have no words. Mike; Marcus: Thank you.

I did just this, as wavs, & deleted the pirated version I had.

If only on the suspicion that the ripped copy I had was poor quality.

Anyway, as a result I got a Bloc Vrs. Warp album thrown in!
I know it's not physical product, but it's always nice to get some bang for your buck :)

Do Warp always throw in freebies?

Is it just me or the Bleep mp3s sound better than the iTunes AACs?

damn.

i pre-ordered on itunes instead of bleep because of all the traffic there at the time.

if someone can give more detail and there is general consensus that bleeps mp3's are of higher quality i will have to get those...

I might be wrong, but the sound seems to be more detailed. Maybe "mastered by iTunes" means "compressed by iTunes"?

Have tried the 1st and last playlist and I really think that this is how the album should be played, you can hear the continuation of the tracks and Collapse is a perfect ending to the album as it drifts off and stops dead at the end, also Sundown and Telepath are clearly meant to be played together…

1 17 2 16 3 15 4 14 5 13 6 12 7 11 8 10 9

Reach for the Dead and Come to Dust

White Cyclosa and New seeds

There is something definitely palindromic in this album, is Collapse intended as the final track or an interlude signalling the end and a rebirth - the rest of the album?

I'm wondering if I should get the Wav / Wav 24bit version but no idea if you need special equipment (beyond a PC and headphones) for an optimal playback.

Will I even hear a difference?
