As that stuff passes to their kids, a generation later, it comes out.

Definitely but also from the recipients themselves, eventually the resale value of it probably becomes too high to ignore too. And maybe they drift from the friendship circles and it all seems like a bit of youthful melodrama (which I think is honestly not an unfair assessment)

Bit late to the party, but what an absolutely stunning piece of music Tape 05 is. Sounds very much like an opening or closing track to me. So excited for what's to come - incredible time to be a Boards fan.

Just logging in again after....too long....to join in all the hype. I'm so excited for new music. I found BoC after TCH released. TH coincided with a huge change in my life. My life circumstances changed in a huge way again the last few months, and now it looks like there will be another BoC album that will define it. Tape 05 is incredible and I'm so excited to listen to it and whatever comes next with all of you.

Logging in and seeing so many usernames from a decade (!!!) ago, is like its own form of time travel.

I hope you all are well.

BoCset?

Something more sinister like a musical testament?

Speculation galore

I can’t help feeling some of it may have been orchestrated to drum up a bit of interest and momentum.

Mike Paradinas selling his tapes to someone that released it in HQ online, for instance. I think that could have been staged so to speak, with a likely outcome and a guy in the industry it would be an easy one to pull off.

Given the sudden emergence of the ATP soundboard recording overnight, I'm wondering if the recent flurry of activity is precursor to a new album..... or the long awaited BOCset?

I suspect that was a "if we don't sell it now, it's going to be worth about half the price" thing. Plus there's all the Old Tunes stuff being officially registered for copyright a year or so ago. Points towards a release at some point, I think.

It's hard for me to explain but it sounds like something older that's been polished to me. The general vibe, production and arrangement feel a little more naive to me, and that's not a negative thing, it still has that BOC genius.

Yes, I agree. The music and video feels like it’s own project, I could be completely wrong but I’m not certain that it will be on the album.

Is it just me, or does anyone else have a sneaking suspicion parts of the community are being activated for whatever is coming? Deleted videos, very quick obscure reference finds—there is just an underlying feeling that some are in the know...

Also, I have an inkling tape 05 is made by a fan. I can't put my finger directly on it, just a gut feeling.

If so, awesome!

Agreed. It got Sherbert Head vibes for me, but an opening or closing track makes so much sense!

Yeah there's definitely something about it that reminds me of Campfire once the chord progression changes, which was unexpected after the beginning sounding like it could have been taken from TH.

In my opinion it is quite absurd to claim that Tape 05 sounds like old unreleased material.
To me it is pretty evident that this recording is of higher production quality than what they had access to pre-Twoism EP.
Maybe if it was re-recorded, but to me this sounds totally new, and even reaching into new territory with the angelic quality in it's style. Of course the melody isn't unfamilair, but this is always the case with BoC.

I rest my case.

I'm purely going by how Tape05 sounds compared to the technical arc of their career, with Tomorrow's Harvest being the most technical album (imo). The production on that album is insane, it's so precise and perfect and yet still totally creamy and spacious and analog and warm, it's a work of genius. But this is breaking all kinds of mixing rules and arrangement wise is so much more similar to their original stuff, also it almost sounds like it's played live to my ear. That may sound absurd, but I can't shake what I'm hearing or feeling.

I don’t think it’s literally older music for the record. I’m just stubbornly unsatisfied with the music being described as “like TCH and TH.” It does sound related to TH in the sense that it’s cinematic and the chords toward the end resolve very classically. I’m trying to emphasize how much the sound is full on VHS tape, and I think it was made for the video itself. This may not reflect the sound of the new album. It could! There are the posters to consider too. I’m just taking this all in still… I have no expectations.

I am with you here. I can’t shake the feeling either.

The posters were so unexpected in relation to the tapes. Everything about what we’ve seen so far feels unlike the their other records to me.

Could there be something at the Devil's Postpile and/or Giant's Causeway? Both are hexagon-like basalt deposits and have some significance BOC wise. (They love Satanism, Jacquard Causeway) Might be worth checking out. And even if there is nothing, you still get a great hike to a very Beautiful Place Out in the country!
Jesus, was it you indeed?

Someone recently shared their personal remaster of ATP-07 on Reddit (and it's quite good!) but not aware of a more direct source. What are you referring to?

Thank you - just saw the other thread and catching up. Amazing. I wonder if this fellow was inspired to finally push through given the news.
