Hmmm......just no.

Our gift to BOC is just to do what we do......we love their music, we thrive on their music, we promote their music and buy it as well as buying into the mystery surrounding it. We solve the problems that they obviously enjoyed posing and we continue to grow and get on as one big happy family just as we do.

I mean, that's like a fucking Christmas hamper to the guys if you ask me.

I am fairly sure that's all they could ever ask for.

I'm sure if they were asked, they would suggest a charity donation.

I highly doubt they would want or feel comfortable about anything tangible, given that they hardly seek adulation or celebrity.

Without wishing to come across like I'm personally having a go at those who are all for this, because I know it's being suggested with the best of intentions etc, but this really does make me cringe a little bit.

I just think it's the total antithesis of what BoC are all about, I have never quite got my head around this need to put people on pedestals. There are many people who have made great music that I've loved over the years but I've never had any desire to meet them or become friends with them, for all I know they might be dicks in person

Professional musicians who have built up a strong and loyal fanbase receive thanks on a constant basis in the form of being provided with a (often very comfortable) living.

Again I want to stress that this is just my opinion on the matter and I'm not holding anything against those who disagree but, for me, it comes across as a bit cheesey.

It's a nice thought, but I think the thank you thread is enough tbh.

Fri May 31, 2013 11:07 am

I have given them lots of money over the years and they have thanked me with great music. More thanks? not needed, reckon they know how thankful in general the BoC fans are

If there at all is a way to make a thank you not overly attached / creepy while keeping it simple and classy it would be similar to what Apple did in remembering Steve Jobs .

A simple site rotating notes from people who give their thanks .
It should be the splash page for twoism when you first arrive .

Example

I'm sure they know they have a lot of fans who love their music and want to support their career. Not sure there's a better way to support an artist than to enjoy their work and promote them to other people who might be interested.

Some of your guys are crazy ;)

This thread is basically saying that we are all thankful. I'm sure they are aware of most of the things said. I bet they laugh or smile at most of the stuff people find or link within their resoning for certain sounds and imagery. Most stuff is probably unintentional and without reason.

I pointed this out at the end of April. Not sure whether he done that already... nevertheless you can chip in if you didn't already and I'll point it out again.

This really should have ended the discussion. For those that just want to say thanks, post it there. This was never about anything more than a simple, personal thank you kind of thing, not some kind of sacrifice or love letter, so the above message should really put this puppy to bed.

Those are some talented funnies. I'm glad watmm got back from the dead as well.
Now lets call them out for a freestyle rap battle!

I actually deleted my original post with that link because I thought people who have posted in this thread may get offended by what gets said over at WATMM. But you quoted it before I deleted it lol.

That "glimpse into personal space" idea is really nice.

And, they do seem like the people who don't like tangible things. Love that bar idea.

What if we just wrote a letter and mailed it? A card? One person buys it, mails it to another person, so on and so forth, until we have everyone who has wanted to participate sign it, then mail it to warp and/or the band.

The biggest issue with that is just giving out an address...Hmm...

(or not, may be creepy.)

That was enjoyable reading. I find this absolutely fascinating. Maybe the word “gift” in the topic title started the CRINGE ball rolling (in hindsight, I can see I get it). But it was said numerous times, that it was really just about a simple thanks (something a tad more personal than an album sale). I can’t be the only one who has gone up to a musician they respect after a show and shake their hand and say “great job, love what you do, thanks man”. Funny cuz I never hear the musician say, “Ok… well that’s fucking weird. You like my shit and you’re thanking me for it? Fucking loser fanboy”. Maybe they really want to say that, but all I ever hear is “Thanks man, really appreciate it.”

Now I can see how the train getting started if the word “gift” implied creepy things, but it has been said numerous times here that it was just about something as simple as literally saying thanks.

Sad times when you get death threats for such a thing. And to those few select members at WATMM who said such things- I welcome your death threats and feel bad that you probably can’t even comprehend what it’s like to feel connected to music- in a human, natural way (not a Justin Beiber fuck me kind of way). And if you do ever feel such things, I’m sure you feel so guilty about it inside and make sure no one ever finds out. Some of the attitudes over there are the exact opposite of what I think musicians want to hear. The kind of prick-mentality Jello Biafra sang about in Jock-o-rama- the cool, hip bullies of the music world. Fuck off. Seriously.

A shame a thank you got so twisted and molested.

Fri May 31, 2013 2:21 pm

I wrote the "death to whomever started it" comment and it was not directed at you. I meant that the watmm thread was itself becoming cringe worthy, death to whoever started that thread (I started that thread, hence the intended minor lol).

So, I mock you yes. Unapologetically. But I did not intend to threaten anyone.

Regards

I like both places and there's plenty of overlap anyway so I really wish we could just send each other nice "thanks for being you" fruit baskets and let it drop.
