This is probably my favourite of the beatless/ambient tracks on the album. That synth makes me melt. Its got that untouchable quality to it, so unmistakably BOC. It's just one of those tracks that I think nobody else could get close to sounding like.

This song makes me somehow feel its the key to unlocking an "alternate" track order. The voice referring to up and down, to the right, the long drawn out "fiiiiiiiiiiiiive" (Telepath being track 5 and all) There is something about it.

The first person I thought of when I heard Telepath was the actor Richard Burton.
Has anyone ever seen the film called, 'The Medusa Touch' from 1978? In the movie Richard Burton plays a novelist who has telekinetic abilities, and uses these abilities to bring about worldwide catastrophes.

I may have done something stupid here, but I googled 'telepath', and ironically the term 'extra sensory perception' was supposedly coined by the explorer Sir Richard Burton in 1870.

Don't get me wrong, I may be putting 2+2 together here and getting 5!
I'm more likely to be wrong than factually correct! But the voice does have a similarity to Richard Burton

Wow a 1986 movie from a major actor...

Surprising...interpolated or sampled?

Gotta love how the opening jingle that wasn't even sampled is that BOC aesthetic

That's the theatrical soundtrack version of Madonna's "Live to Tell" (the best part anyway). I think the pop song might be linked somewhere else around here.

EDIT: Here, b/c I still like the chord progressions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzAO9A9GjgI

Wouldn't that absolutely decimate their recording budget?

I don't think it's sampled from that. It's just a very similar calliope synth sound. Either they sampled it from elsewhere or they have the equipment to create it.

For one, the Modanna bit goes E C G, in Telepath it's F Db Bb Gb Eb... that is not a transposition. Suppose they could have sampled just one note and then made each pitch with it, but that seems doubtful.

Also, how would they have gotten rid of the piano?

a reference link for any sleuths...

http://www.moviecus.com/movie_search/telepathy

* I edited the above list for particular candidates based on release date (nothing after 1990), and the theme given in the blurbs...

The Sender (1982) - A disturbed telepathic man is able to transmit his dreams and visions into the minds of people around him.

The Day Time Ended (1980) - A small family relocates to the Sonoran Desert…

Starship Invasions (1977) - Captain Rameses and his Legion of the Winged Serpent brigade are out to claim Earth for their dying race.

Kin-dza-dza! (1986) - The story takes place on a desert planet.

Scanners (1981) - A scientist sends a man with extraordinary psychic powers to hunt others like him.

A Boy and His Dog (1975) - Set in the year 2024 in post-apocalyptic America, 18-year old Vic and his telepathic dog Blood are scavengers in the desolate wilderness ravaged by World War 4

The Space Children (1958) - A glowing brain-like creature arrives on a beach near a rocket test site via teleportation beam. The alien communicates telepathically with the children of scientists.

Stereo (1969) - Disguised as an educational film…

Escape to Witch Mountain (1975)

Return From Witch Mountain (1978) - Sequel to above, Tony is kidnapped by the evil Dr. Gannon and his spinster partner Letha and brainwashed into…

Some of these look right up the Hexagon Sun alley...

Honestly I don't think that is sampled, I just think it is very similar. But you guys might be right.

at :41 i believe he's saying "sseevvenn, hhaatte, niine", or at least it sounds that way to me. I feel like it'd be classic BoC form if they added a subtle "h" sound to the eight to make this a little ambiguous.

the more interesting one however is at 1:04, if you listen very closely after the drawn out "fiiiiiiiiiive", it sounds as if they very quietly tacked on a "six" as if in the same breath as the long five. This would then give us "5iiive 6 6 6 7".

yeah, definitely a triple 6 in this track

this track is incredible.. the voice immediately gives you the same vibe as the voice in, the devil is in the details. on first listen to the album, this track really stood out.

when the voice counts to 10, it reaches six and sounds as though it says. 666. quickly.

i also agree with what someone else said in this thread. it sounds like the voice is hinting at another way of playing the track order. but who knows.
