Maybe Babylulu became a kind of liaison by reaching out in a polite and considerate way as a knowledgeable fan. Maybe someone remembered that and repaid the kindness when the time was right? I don't have any inside info on the matter though.

Are you the OP on Reddit claiming the brothers hand selected these tracks to be disseminated, or did you just come across the upload first to post them here?

I understand you’re not willing to say anything that could be revealing about your source, but I do find it weird that you were the liaison for a message from MDG and now this. All would be clearer if MDG posted either of these things themselves, but instead we have you as a middle-man. You say you don’t know how to answer besides happenstance— why do you think this person went to you rather than uploading it themselves, even anonymously?

i think there’s a lot of assumptions on everyone else’s part. the person who gave me these tracks is not anonymous to me, and did not reach out to me first. i reached out to them first, and their only wish was to remain anonymous. i’ve only been attempting to respect that wish, yet for some reason, people have made it their life’s mission to discover the source of this leak when it’s a fruitless endeavor considering this person has absolutely nothing else BOC-related to give

What's up with The Dooksters post on page 2 of a "A Few Old Tracks" that has archive link -- sounds like a similarly phrased album title like this most recent one "Some Old Tunes" seems to have high quality sounding stuff in there too.

I find myself more confused how neither of these were made a big deal particular this second one in past few years on Twoism that I've seen when skimming. Some stuff on that "A Few Old Tracks" sounds much much cleaner than anything else I've heard before for stuff not covered in this latest leak from a few days ago either but similar calibre of where it may be sourced from.

The plot always thickens. Can anyone else make sense of this or give me some historical on what I am looking at here?

You keep acting like no one should be interested in your source because they don’t have any further material, as if it’s the only reason people would be interested. This is the most straight forward you’ve been about how you got these files. I can respect your source’s anonymity and appreciate the music, but it makes sense people would have questions. You chose to release these files with an air of mystery about them.

I guess the real answer to my question about why you’re in the middle in both cases is because you actively sought them out. You messaged MDG first, and you messaged this person first.

I’ve seen you be asked about the cover image a few times. Mind shedding some light?

there is literally no good reason for people to be interested in the source material other than obsessiveness. i’ve yet to read or see a good reason. it’s in BOC fans’ nature to be so incredibly obsessive for no good reason. this is somebody who doesn’t wish to be found, so people justify the fact that they try and find them to satisfy their own curiosity.

ultimately, the source is Boards of Canada. this should be a good enough answer for anyone, but for some reason, it’s not. and no, this is not the “most transparent” i’ve been about the release. i must have replied to about 20 comments on Reddit, Keyosc, and even more on The Magic Window’s Discord server regarding this release saying essentially the same thing i’m saying now.

Then compare to this latest rip/compilation 'Some Old Tunes', either blind test listening or comparing spectral or both.

Other than BMX track, and Hi Scores not being present on "A Few Old Tracks" that has the most of Vol 2 tracks... could it be argued all the rest of the tracks are accounted for and sound similar on those 2 other mentioned rips, and perhaps are being cleaned up with filtering or quieted down on the gain a bit since those two are substantially louder?

Also weird that "I will Get It Tattooed" is 1:37 on AFOTV1 but 1:28 on "Some Old tunes" with the bleedover from Blockbusters game show host cutting over notably chopped off?

Something weird about "Alpha Rainbow" on this "Some Old Tunes" vs "A Few Old Tracks" - is it possibly some of "Some Old Tunes" they are re-sampling aspects of the song?

Or is it just past my bedtime?

I think the main issue, possibly, is that we've gotten so many fakes over the year its entirely reasonable to skeptical that this is another, especially given its an incomplete sampler of tracks from Vol1+2.

Usually the absence of any real details makes one more skeptical. Not necessarily "Give us names" but the tapes on Reddit from that private buyer supposedly were real bc Paradinas verified somewhere selling them to the guy privately.

Here they sound great, but quite a few of us haven't kept up with all the fake releases over recent years to say. Maybe those two I referenced covers the bulk of the content of this and there's one or two unexplained ones, and separate mysteries like Red Moss standalone from a month ago, but it seems like some tomfoolery may be a foot.

Not even necessarily from you, but from wherever 'provided' this one without much explanation. It feels like another R35TT situation where mdg genuinely didn't know where all the hobbled together tracks came from. Except here it's verified already leaked songs from Vol 1 + 2 and could be some form of manipulation going on to make them sound different but be attributable to other more fringe leaks. IDK.

That's why I would like others to do a deeper dive on what we have in front of us. It sounds great compared to soulseek stuff, but has anything else actually manifested over the years? Even a 'real' FLAC of perhaps a Cd pressed Maxima surfaced randomly years ago so stranger things have happened. Except that too was a complete tracklist.

After a bit of research it seems like this specific batch of tracks are the “bonus mystery tracks” included in rare pressings of the 1998 Peel Session CDs (which also included the Meat Beat remix).
Iirc the rip of “Finity” on here originally came out as “Track 07” on SoundCloud back in 2019 and, if the track listing is correct, then everything just checks out.
I’ve also read around that sources of the CD come from the 90s so likely pressed 1998-1999. It would also explain why the bonus “mystery” tracks still have bits of other tracks cross fading as BoC likely sourced from the original Old Tunes collections tapes instead of the original original sources.
