Ok, seriously, what on earth has MDG ever done? I don't understand why people take what he says so seriously. How is he not a fraud? Has he said anything that is actually true? I'm not knocking him here, I'm genuinely curious.

Regarding BoC, haven't we established that their "status update" are meaningless? They've been "in the studio" off and on forever. No one is asking for a daily Boards Blog, or an active Twitter account. Just out of respect to the loyal fans, any sort of statement on if they are actually still an active band and if they ever plan on releasing new material would suffice.

1) One day I reckon I'll make a MDG-faq somewhere because it's getting rather tiresome to keep on replying to these kind of doubts. Here I go again: He's definitely not a fraud as he got access to a legit/verified @hexagonsun.com mail address. I've been in contact with him (and the warp website editor) before by mail. He's also been so kind as to have linked to bocpages.org on the facebook and youtube accounts. He has debunked faux information in the past years of all the trolls we had. He spilled the beans on the black boards of canada t-shirts a while before the actual announcement. He has sent me those nice never before seen goodies (the boc keychain and the music70 sticker). He's also a moderator on WATMM.

2) LOL, really. :) You are contradicting yourself in this sentence. Just read this again: "being in the studio on and off <--> still an active band / releasing new material". What do you think they do "in the studio"? I'd say making music! :) Being in the studio is also a term to refer a period of mastering/mixing/selecting the music for a record.

I could sit here and bang on (again) about patience, or that MDG gives the best info he has at the time and that things can change that make that info look false/out of date, or that people seem to forget that pre-internet it wasn't such a big deal to go month/years without hearing from some bands.

Or I could go out for a pint and a Chinese meal - it's Friday night. Sorry, but rising to yet another attempt to stir this bollocks up again doesn't even come second. Not interested. Off out.

See ya later.

It's just tiresome because every so often somebody comes on here and says something like "how do we even know mdg is for real" like they're the first person to have this oh-so-clever idea. And they're so proud of it they then refuse to believe anything anyone says.

No-one gets banned for having a dissenting opinion. Not reading up and coming in aggressive? Yeah.

You should probably make that wiki  .

Hasn't that been the status message for like three years?? I'm saying those status updates are completely devalued at this point, and silly to be the only form of communication. Why bother trying to maybe lead people to believe you're actively working? Just don't post anything at all.

I went through a phase of growing very resentful against BoC because to me they seem to snub an incredible and loyal fanbase and to me that is something they should respect. I don't know why, perhaps its because I come from a more metal/punk music background where the relationship between fans and band is very loyal and intense. IDM isn't that way at all and I still dont think I have fully adjusted to it tbh. All these never-ending brickwalls of silence, no gigs, nothing.

Now that I am in my thirties and been a music fanatic for so many years and been through many genres there are only 2 artists on the planet who still evoke that teenage/20something/tribal instinct in me. And they are Aphex and BoC. But it's a tough love I guess because AFX and BoC do nothing but wind me up lol. It's exasperating at times!! Hahah.

Anyway I sort of wised up and realised I was wasting part of my soul, getting all hot and bothered about it, but it still sometimes grates. In part I admire BoC for never breaking the way they do things.

And there has been very minor but positive signs from them that they aren't dead, we all know deep down somethings coming, but not many of us have the superhuman powers of patience needed to deal with 'BOC Time'. So sometimes we write a letter on the forum to release the frustration....

In my book that's fair enough

I agree. Also, I'm sure the people complaining aren't losing sleep over it. For me, there isn't a part of my soul missing, I don't genuinely care at the end of the day. I just think its absurd.

So:
In answer to your question; Yes, there is still adequate reason to perpetuate BoC as a "thing". Notice the quotes.
Their massive body of work is unquestionably reason enough to consider them a "thing". They will always be a "thing" whether they release a greatest hits BocSet or simply End/Esc. That will never change. History is to thorough a thief to let something like BoC get away from a mugging.

so, you guys wouldn't appreciate the occasional update of their web site then? or is it not cool to admit that?

I'd rather see a brand new fully featured updated website. Occasional small updates are for Twitter/Facebook/YouTube.

Word.

Had 3 pints of Guiness, a surprisingly good chinese buffet that included a chili beef that hurt just enough, 2 pints of Tsingdao, and a JD and diet coke. Fine company, many jokes - mainly about the floral shirt I was wearing and the relative size of our work mates sexual organs, football and Duran Duran. Good fun, if a little crude. A++ Would do again.

Of course updates would be wonderful!! lol. What I was getting at is that they're going to be some"thing" for a long time whether they like (intended/we-like, etc.) it or not. That we all comment on these threads proves the math. :D

I am appalled that it's actually as serious as it is to some people.

Since when has BoC not releasing an album as of recently started inconveniencing YOU on a day to day level to the extent where you feel compelled to come on here and whine about it? Do you think that'll make Mike and Marcus release it any faster? They're just people, that's it. They're not some sort of demigods and they're not celebrities like Richard James. They're just people who are trying to live their life. Guess what, there's a pretty good chance that for most people, when you reach age 40 making a ton of electronic music isn't your top priority anymore. Not everybody is fucking Trent Reznor, or Gary Numan, or Maynard Keenan. Some people want to relax.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

Making music in a warm studio during winter filled with lo-fi analog equipment is my definition of relaxing
