Yep.
Just to expand on this in the event of people overlooking the post, Semena Mertvykh samples the opening strings.

Just bought the LP of that soundtrack on eBay, good look

Btw is anyone tired of seeing this track title in roman letters and not the Cyrillic alphabet?

Going to change mine, might as well learn some Russian while I'm being brainwashed

guessing us Russians would agree!
i think the transliteration is tougher to read than the Russian itself for this one!

'Семена Мертвых' is what's in my playlist. :)

great find!

Oh wow. You know, it is nice to see a connection between BOC and someone from the Windham Hill record label.

Or what's more likely is they replicated the sound themselves rather than just sample it.

Probably more likely, if there's no credit in the sleeve notes.

But by god did they replicate it!

Is anybody going to mention Angelo Badalamenti?

Semena Mertvykh sounds just like Mullholland Drive theme to me.

Badalamenti's stuff is great, especially on his David Lynch collaborations.

I'm particularly fond of Betty's Theme from MD.

They ran this track through a mangled VHS deck. Very interesting quote from NYT interview June 11, 2013:

Q: Is there a particular sound or timbre on the album that you are happiest with, and how did you make it?

EOIN: If I had to pick something in particular, maybe the texture of the strings in “Semena Mertvykh.” It was performed into a dissected VHS deck with the motor running super slowly, so you can hear all the pockmarks, the dropouts on the tape. It’s mono, too, which gives it something special. More people should record in mono these days.

i think one could assume with certainty. (post-old tunes music) boc almost never samples anything but themselves, and would definitely not sample something that simple.

but yeah, by god they did... still can't believe they recreated that public tv style indent. ridiculous.

So, I just went from listening to the end of Tomorrow's Harvest to listening to the beginning of Music Has The Right To Children. I couldn't help but notice the similarity between "Semena Mertvykh" and the beginning of "Wildlife Analysis." So, I went into Audacity to try and match it up, and wouldn't you know that if I sped up "Semena Mertvykh" by 6.66% that it PERFECTLY matched the tuning of "Wildlife Analysis." Food for thought, indeed.

I was about to mention the brothers running the track on a VHS Deck and speeding it up, but already you guys did it. Now, the brothers did say they had the motor on the VHS Deck running super slowly, so we need to know the original speed. Now since sunshinerecorder has already sped it up by 6.66% I must ask, can you post it on this forum? I don't have a program that deals with sound editing currently so I want to know how it sounds like sped up. Then we could analyze it from there.
EDIT;
Nevermind the posting. I was able finally get my program up and running after getting it in the mail recently.

@worker. Audacity is free and there's also DJing apps for iPhone that slow tracks down. You got a program by mail?

running the audio signal through an old vhs recorder thats slowed down and in mono is
masterful, gotta love their approach. the real deal, nailing the vibe.

wonder will Bibio be at that next, he probably already is or has!
