Hearing Joni Mitchell for the first time made realize how much her folk records and jazzy playing and voice influenced them for TCH. They've admitted their love for her and I see how she influenced their music on there. TCH really showed some of their pastoral hippie influences that wasn't present on their earlier stuff. TCH was them coming out of the closet as folkier hippies (excluding the R35TT stuff of course) musically.

Shame people like pitchfork hated it because TCH was fully part of who they were musically.

Their style of pseudo-nostalgia and lo-fi has been aped and watered down over the years that it doesn't mean much anymore. They've released very little work, relatively speaking, to designate a style to them that runs through all of it other than psychedelia and electronica, this is amplified after listening to the less refined Old Tunes albums. Their music just "is" BoC. It's like saying something has a "Beatles vibe", like, okay, which style are you referring to?

We knew that we had to break away from this thing. It bothered us that if you go into the big stores our stuff is always sitting in the dance music section. We never made a dance record in our entire career but our stuff stilll gets thrown in there. Our drive with this record is to try and get us out of the dance section and into the main section with all the others bands, like ABBA and A-Ha. We're just a band. Not an IDM band, not an electronic band, and not a dance band.

This may be controversial, I don't think the 822 from the Tomorrows Harvest cd booklet had any intent to signify when their next album would drop.

I think it may have been meaningful to the brothers for a different reason.

I don't know if this is controversial but I strongly believe that the internet and BOC don't work well together.
I was talking to a close friend on here, and we brought up the fact that most of the pictures on their social media pages are not really that good of quality, and everything with the exception of some of the TH campaign stuff seems unintentionally and intentionally........dated and old and unfinished. I think of the "the internet is evil wake up" also seeing how toxic some people on forums or Reddit's or discords or what ever the fcksss.... I can only imagine it cements them in their relationship with the internet..... distant and only utilized when needed.

Not at all. The time for BoC to use the internet for any creative means has looooong passed. The internet is basically 5 or so sites wide, and they're filled with raving bumarses that I wouldn't want to answer to if I were them.

I second this. They used to have a bunch of fun on the internet with their og site but I think they saw how genuinely rude people can be and get away with it and it changed their mind.

I give them props for only using their public internet presence as a necessary evil. I'm sure they've got their own personal profiles and websites for non BOC stuff, but they've been clever enough to avoid getting those in the public eye. The fact that they managed to do this in a time when everything is so public, is impressive too.

I actually really don't care for digging through miniscule things like Twitter likes and contrived numerology for clues as to when the next release comes out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they did any stunts for Geogaddi or TCH, and TH had a whole ad campaign ARG to go with it. If this really is how they expect us to piece info together, then I must say they have lousy taste, and quite frankly, are treating the fans like fools. Are we supposed to ask the garlic bread next, then proceed to be laughed at for talking to garlic bread?

I actually really don't care for digging through miniscule things like Twitter likes and contrived numerology for clues as to when the next release comes out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they did any stunts for Geogaddi or TCH, and TH had a whole ad campaign ARG to go with it. If this really is how they expect us to piece info together, then I must say they have lousy taste, and quite frankly, are treating the fans like fools. Are we supposed to ask the garlic bread next, then proceed to be laughed at for talking to garlic bread?

Yes. And I'm just *slightly* peeved of how little care there is about any other form of discussion.
Fredd-E remarked something to me a while back that the members of twoism each go through phases. I found it a fascinating point but I respectfully disagree.
I do definitely associate certain individuals on this main forum with being solely interested in talking about the band and nothing else.

In the long run, continual BoC discussion doesn't harm anyone, it's actually progressive. Yet, it gets tiresome. I should note that it's at least for me. And if you are finding it that, look for some light relief from the weight of the BoC-dome.

If you have exhausted all boccy angles, I'd be proactive and leave it until the sandisons snap their fingers in front of our faces, waking us up to say "you were drifting again. pay attention."

I really want to talk to you guys, but you seem grounded in the tizzy of cycling speculation. If that's just you being you, no pressure carry on. I'm just a bit disillusioned with talking by myself.

I'm starting to wonder if this an inevitable result of how the internet has evolved and content/media is so easily and readily streamlined to us within the confines of our desktops. The concept of a community of people with a similar interest is phasing out for one more akin to idol worship, not necessarily regarding this site specifically, but much bigger than that. You're not going to get a group discussion on a band's subreddit that is about a completely different subject (e.g. A discussion about war in the middle east on a subreddit for The Cure), but you could on a BBS forum, however, the former is replacing the latter. There is the case of KnowYourMeme that has had the inverse effect, where they don't care about chronicling memes (and why should they, it's all mindless, self-indulgent TikTok trash anyway), but still have discussions on the war in Ukraine, the Trump FBI investigations, and other more substantial discussions in the comments sections and site forums. They're not that fast moving, but they're there.

I'm not against BoC discussion in the slightest, it's why we're all here in the first place. They're an interesting band, and make interesting and unique music worth talking about, but we're a varied group of people with varying opinions and tastes worth talking about as well. We're not BoC worshipers, at least that's what I was led to believe. Hell, I've been listening to Alice In Chains and Soundgarden whilst typing out this post, and that's after spending over a week listening to the dark ambient soundscapes of Silent Hill. We can have all the discussions on their music we want, but when the only topic seems to be "When's the new album coming out?", all I can do is make irreverent non-sequitur jokes, and only for so long.

My personal belief is that there is a 50/50 chance of anything happening; it either happens or it doesn't. Sure we have confirmation that BoC are still making music, but to me, all the guessing is confirmation of JaS (Jack and Shit). There's either a new album, or there isn't. I don't like acting preachy, but I gots no place else to go at this point.

Yeah, people getting wrapped up in obsessive speculation about using numerology to predict the next release date tend to overlook the fact that, while there are patterns woven into BOC's albums, they've actually never used numerology to hint at a release date before, or released an album on a numerologically significant date, ever.

If they were to release a bocset I wouldn’t expect them to release the lesser good old tunes we already know. It would hold great old stuff up to their standards cherry picked from that same era. Makes more sense to me.
