This sequence in the movie freaked the *shit* out of me as a kid. Something about that static-distorted voice just sounds so futile, so ominous. The reveal at the end (when they ultimately show the end of the transmission) is terrifying in the context of the movie.

Agreed. This movie sequence always resonated with me, and always firmly creeped me out. There's something here that really fucks with my brain.

Forgive me if I overlooked something, but I haven't seen anyone mention the actual lyrical content of the Madonna song. Here's a YouTube with the lyrics in the info section. It is essentially the very same concept that the album has unfolded to be about. Very clever, boys. That's no coincidence.

But I think the consensus is that it probably isn't sampled from that song. It's just the same or a similar 80's sounding synth (calliope), and a similar, but different descending group of notes. The interval between the first two notes is the same, but it's different after that.
I'm not saying this dismisses the connections you think might be there, but I'm wondering whether you're suggesting it based on the belief that it is actually sampled from the Modanna song?

has anyone stumbled across the original sample of Vincent Price yet?

For me its two guys messing about with one of those effects (ring modulator i think) that they used for the daleks on doctor who.
whoever is in the background further away this is what i can make out what he says in some kind of pirate voice lol:
0:20 - wallaby give you triumph
0:43 - talk louder
0:53 - lift the bandpass - there it is! doctor tardis

Nice catch.
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then

reminds me of "nova scotia robots" off of old tunes

After the guy in the background says "give me a count", I keep hearing "At the start of the day ? No..." for some reason. Not that it makes much more sense in context though.
Love this track to death. It has quickly proven to be one of my favorite vignette tracks from them...

While this is a gem, it makes me think that it's not Vincent Price's voice.

Everybody harps on about a possible code in Cold Earth, how bout the numbers in Telepath? Not that I really give a hoot or can be asked to look into it.

I think it's possible, the word "answer" is used very clear, but with a lot of different numbers it's hard to pick something

and here's a nagging thought of late..
the burst of static near the end right after the end of the speech samples (1:08/9, someone said it sounded like a rocket going off), seems to fade to a weird pulse or tremelo effect which kind of sounds like the 'alarm' pulse from the beginning of transmissiones ferox sped up. then in that track the same static burst again about 10 seconds in, but slowed or drawn out as the sample fades. not sure what it is for, maybe different perspectives on the same transmission(s). it's also like a weird reflection or mini palindrome around cold earth, with all the samples being unintelligible between the static bursts, and the samples outside of this little bracket being more fit for our consumption.

I actually notice that I enjoy concentrate more on a melody and those vocal samples just fall in to my mind, while the melody floating around me from left to right. It really can be mind blowing, especially if you listen to it on a good pair of headphones.

Used to put Telepath on repeat by around 50 times per day. I stopped when I listened the album 'til the end, sadly.
