As the discussion turns to other Warp artists, Booth warms to a mention of the forthcoming and much-delayed Boards of Canada LP (a group he praises for being "super fucking careful and anal") and is endearingly apologetic when I mention the difficulties of balancing work and family life: "Oh, I'm not giving them any stress," he insists, in his most peaceable Rochdale brogue, "I just like their music!"

From MDG and Snufkin respectively here here : "MDG: the new album has been held up over the past year by one or two issues outwith the band's control, but it is finally coming out in 2010."

"Snufkin: One of the bro's has been raising children; that's probably alot more fun (and demanding) than satisfying our needs by pushing a release - I imagine:)"

I think Snufkin's idea could be bang on the money. Wife/girlfriend is blessed with a happy little accident and ping - your studio time goes on the back burner for a couple of years? Could just be that simple. No Warp delays, hell - maybe not even the emigrating to New Zealand/Hong Kong/Sea of Tranquillity. These things happen.

Thanks! :D

...Should've gone to the bookies...

But seriously, given the pre-TCH elements of childhood and nostalgia in their music, and the fact that they grew up as children together, it would seem likely to me that these guys would be more than happy to spend as much time as they can with children of their own above and beyond most other things (incl. new releases). Who knows, they may have even got their little one's to play with some elements of any new music they make :)

Actually, being the dork I am, I've just found something I'd not noticed at the time, which is fairly interesting (maybe). From the website in the Summer of 2004: "July 2004: Congratulations to Mike on the birth of his beautiful baby daughter!"

So this was before the release of Campfire. Man I need to get out more...

I know man. I nearly didn't post it actually. I feel slightly unclean. Think I'll go take a shower and scrub myself in Vim... lol

As much as I'd like more music, more power to Mike for apparently taking a break and being there for his family. I remember getting MHTRTC a few weeks after it came out in the US, so it's funny to think we got 3 great full lengths in the span of 7 years, this feels like a long drought when you look at it that way. I'm ready for the album(s), whenever it finally happens.

Remember though we don't actually know if they've been n a break at all as they don't disclose any details of their daily life... and rightly so I think.

Sorry to go completely off topic, but what IS the tower on the right from their twitter page?

Whatever it is, it's accompanied by two new links posted last night to a petition to save BBC 6 music & asian network. (BBC announced y'day cuts to these and other services)

BTW was reading yesterday that the late great John Peel had always hoped BBC radio 6 would be a haven for new and unheard music - so this could in a way be a nod to that.

EDIT UGH sorry just seen the other thread on this.... first thing in morning, hadn't woken up enough to check other boards :o

Ugh, don't get rid of 6 Music. That's terrible, The BBC.

I hate online petitions but this looks like one that might actually work. I'll give that a sign.

The tower is some sort of radome, but I don't know where from. Menwith Hill has some good ones (you might recognise it if you've seen Look Around You).

How god damn eerie are those things? I actually walked up to a massive electric tower in a field last weekend and even though it was broad daylight felt totally intimidated by the structure and the wierd humming noise.

Pretty certain they're early warning radar aren't they? A throw back to the Cold War. The hills of my home county of Northumberland are covered in them. I'd imagine the Pentland Hills might have some too as it's only up the road from Northumberland really.

A different, and much larger version, is the one at RAF Fylingdales in Yorkshire. Actually, this article refers to the "Golf-ball" type too.

This one is famous for being so powerful that many people have found their central locking stops working if they park their car in the nearby village. I drove past it once and it's the scariest looking thing you've ever seen, especially as it's in the middle of nowhere...

Sounds like a good cause, but I wonder when they will tweet something that's not a URL. Comes off a bit... impersonal.
