That post and your avatar just seriously made me laugh.

Yeah though, I'm all for delayed gratification; if it leaks I will not listen to it, and I would actually prefer to hear it for the first time on vinyl. I always get a kick over this kind of stuff anyway and I find it kind of invigorating. I think I may have a fetish for it as well.

Digressing, once I was strapped for cash: I only had around $18 to finish the month on and I was around I guess 9 days into this month, but I looked at it as a challenge. I bought these cheap-ass ramen noodles from a generic grocery store, and only drove to work on days I couldn't hitchhike a ride or wasn't up for walking. Did all sorts of stuff like that - I thought it was fun. Granted, waiting for an album is not nearly as significant, but yeah I've got no problem waiting.

On June 10th I am taking the 24 bit wavs and my Grado headphones to an isolated forest cliff overlooking the ocean not too far from my house. Press play and kick back, no drugs required: I haven't done anything like that for a while. I'm very much looking forward to it.
I make music as Sweguno.

Why are you pissed off? Does it bother you that there are people out there that want to replicate Boards of Canada's sounds?

I'm with MindElevation here, if you start doing music yeah you have your influences, but what's the point when you replicate them. Don't you want to do something original and not just rip of the sound of another band that has worked to carve their own little niche?

The originality of their music is part of the reason why I love BoC so much, so when copycats come along it kinda distresses me. I don't really care though, none have really gotten it right.

BoC isn't just hip hop beats, children voices samples, and creepy analogue synths.

They always miss that secret ingredient.

Yes and no. Yes it pisses me off that people want a quick fix that lets them rip off boards of canada by clicking a few buttons on a computer program. No in the sense that I believe people can and should be allowed to be influenced by the artists they admire.

To me, stuff like this goes against everything that BoC stands for. If people want to make a trivialised version of their sound, then fair enough, that's there choice. But BoC go through painstakingly long processes in creating their sound for a reason.

...wait, do you think an article on beatport is gonna give away all of BoC's production secrets?

it's just like if someone posted about the details of replicating someone's guitar tone somewhere - it points interested people in the right direction and it's fun to read about, and that's basically it

No, quite the opposite. I think you're missing my point.

Sure, I didn't say it wasn't an interesting read. I'm sure those who release annoying BoC fakes will be licking their lips.

my problem is the fact that people actually see that and say "Oh I want to sound like BoC"

why do you want to sound like someone else

That article should be re-titled how to simulate an old tape machine in ableton, because that's what it is, and BoC don't own that, man.

if it was retitled that people wouldn't click because people don't want to sound like that, they want to sound like BoC, maaaaaaaaan

I think it's a little silly if someone wants to sound indistinguishable from another group, but I think most people are just interested in incorporating certain elements of their sound in their own work in their own personal way. Some people might end up coming off as a cheap rip off if they're not putting their own ideas into it too, but you don't have to reinvent the wheel every time to make something worth listening to.

If it was titled that we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I suspect someone thought mentioning BOC in the title would generate more views...? That's a bit cynical and inaccurate but hey, a lot of articles (printed or online) have been so for decades - so I guess it's nothing much new.
