Broken Drum - Beck (Boards of Canada Remix)

Boards of Canada will never cease to impress me. They've really made some good remixes. Why? by Good Friday is another good one. As well as Last Walk Around Mirror Lake by Boom Bip.

If you're a true BoC fan, you will know to listen to it all the way through.

Either that or you miss out on the musical progression that they are known for. The end is absolutely phenomenal.

Check out the original by Beck as well, so you can hear the amount of work they put into it.

Clearly better, this one being my favourite remix.

Need for another thread, unsure.

Their remix of Poppy Seed is my favorite. It would be great if they could put out a compilation of the remixes they have done.

Was the instrumental version of that re-mix ever released? I had always assumed it had been, but......now I don't think so. One of my favorites.

It's the best remix of its kind for sure. I could never even conceive how they made the track to be honest. the reverse chords, then the other reversed chords lol. its a pretty insane track.

The brothers are obviously showing us what they aren't bringing to the table when it comes to Boards of Canada. I read in an interview a long time ago that they make the Boards of Canada music sound like Boards of Canada and that they do other things (The acoustic version of MHTRTC lol...)

Can you imagine a whole boc album with music like the Broken Drum music except its just original tunes?
It would be MASSIVE

that would be sick. Yes, this track just goes the show the complexities of BoC's sound.

The last 35 seconds of Last Walk Around Mirror Lake are sooo good.

I always thought about this like Campfire Headphase is more of the same.

Yeah discovering their remixes and stuff is like finding a whole new album. Poppy Seed is probably my favourite, and the Prime Audio Soup remix is one of their best production feats i think.

Beck's comments on the remix from a 2005 interview:

“…my favourite remix I’ve ever had done … they brought out something that was there but then they just added a whole new dimension. I guess it’s quite an emotional song and they brought out something bittersweet in it that was kinda hippyish, but it doesn’t maim you with saccharin. It kinda gets you right in the chest.” :

that's actually a fitting description of a lot of their music. They kind of do have the "midas touch" on all their remixes.

it really is uncanny how much work they put into it... and wow... just wow... the ending always gives me chills.

The Why? mix (and the cLOUDDEAD mix) are probably my two favourite remixes BoC ever did. They went off the rails in terms of production creative craziness, and that's why I love them. Of course, I'm also a HUGE fan of Why?/Yoni Wolf/cLOUDDEAD/Doseone/Anticon in general..but the Broken Drum remix is also a beaut. Blows the original away in terms of emotion, if you ask me.

^ agreed - all 3 are stunning.

Before I heard any of the TH stuff I had hoped that the Why? remix was going to give a pointer to the direction they were going in.

I've been really into that cLOUDDEAD remix lately. I'd actually never heard the original so I didn't realize how much they'd done to it. They must not really love doing remixes because I'm sure they have a long line of artists wanting them to do some, they're so good at it.
