Let's speculate on certain sounds and samples.

Everything related to our favorite Scottish duo.

Tonight, two ideas for Alpha and Omega.

phpBB [media]

1) Could it be possible that the "woman gasping" from 4:15 to 5:43 ( https://bocpages.org/wiki/Alpha_And_Ome ... s.2FLyrics ) comes from the same source as Turquoise Hexagon Sun's sounds of people talking ( https://bocpages.org/wiki/Turquoise_Hex ... .2F_Lyrics ; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXUpjcJwnqs ) ?

2) Throughout the track, we can hear some kind of flute. Could it be another sample of The Incredible String Band's eponymous debut album (as it has been confirmed that The Smallest Weird Number and You Could Feel the Sky have used samples of it)?

What are your thoughts? :)

Fifth consecutive post, but am I the only one to hear birds singing throughout Music Is Math, especially at the very beginning?

I remember reading an interview where they talked about a bird singing through the window and decided to keep it. Not sure which song though. Still pouring over all of BOCpages.
Sirens calling out catastrophe, waves of mourning rippling through hillsides, an exodus for us all

I never noticed how there's background noise in the beginning of the song, it does sound like birds singing

I think that's just the lead in from Ready Lets GO, the track you're talking about I would assume to be In The Annexe

It was Rue The Whirl that they kept the studio window open and recorded the birds for, you can hear them underneath the whole track.

I definitely hear that, but I don't think it's birds. Those sounds have always intrigued me on that tune, I think it could be some weird ring mod / frequency mod stuff, maybe heavily processed vocals.

This is one I've thought of for awhile, and it could have been mentioned before because of the popularity of the album. "Aegian Sea" by Aphrodite's Child features an ascending arpeggio (5:04) very similar to the one found in "Aquarius" (1:29). I don't know how they would've extracted it, so they might've recreated the sample.

I did a cover of this that got lost in a hard drive crash but from what I remember you can get a very similar thing by using a pitch-delay pedal tuned to make each delay come in lower pitch than the one before. I think I put white noise into it and it sounded OK but the funny thing is anything you put into it kind of comes out sounding pretty much the same, it's like it doesn't matter what you throw into a lake the ripples are gonna be the same size and shape, right?

Oh shit, no, OK I lost that track but I still have a version I did of Ready Lets Go and it uses the same sounds (I'm pretty sure those are the ones you mean, blending over from the track before, right?)

Ah yes those sounds are what I meant - nice cover and yea impressive recreation of that swirling pitch modulated sound. I'm gonna mess with a detuning delay, either the ct5 or the blooper and see what happens. Thanks for your input!

I'm quite surprised no one found this (around 2:20) :

Michel Rodolfi, Palm Canyon (from the album Desert Tracks), 1987

Not quite sure what I'm supposed to be hearing. A07? But I just figured that to be guitar distortion like you can hear in Killing Joke's "Wardance".

I think you'll find that someone else discovered that years ago.

Indeed, my mistake. Obviously, both artists used the same effects on bird sounds with similar results.
