Let's speculate on certain sounds and samples.

Everything related to our favorite Scottish duo.

Regarding Music is Math. The voice absolutely MUST be the voice of Terence Mckenna (Slightly stretched). But I am wondering if they have chopped it up from parts of this talk. In the beginning of this talk he says past and also present right at the start. He also mentions mathematics. He says the word inside at 01:23. What do you think?

I think it's super close but I am not 100% sure it's the sample. Sounds like someone impersonating the voice of Terence Mckenna, maybe?

Take a listen:
- Music Is Math voice isolated: https://vocaroo.com/14Qe6XT2A2eJ
- Terence Mckenna voice stretched: https://vocaroo.com/1vRp792kQAPW

It's insanely similar, but when you compare them bit by bit you can notice some nuances.

Other opinions welcome

I agree. The words the past sound almost bang on. But the rest just isn't there.

After knowing ive heard this sample in some movie somewhere and after racking my brain for days.. I finally found it.
the angelic voices that back the melody of palace posy are no other than lily Chou chou... could be wrong but I am absolutely positive they chopped her melodic line that starts from 2:05 and end at 2:15

here is our boys the sample starts here and roughly runs the length of the song until the "B" section or as I like to call it "section ELEVEN"

Just relistened to it, and starting around 1:10 till the end of the track, aren't there some kind of distorted voices in the background during The Beach At Redpoint

I don't know where I'd ask this, but have BoC ever cited bands like The Chameleons or Killing Joke as influences, or at least bands they like? I know KJ appeared on SXT but I always sense some kind of link between those 2 and BoC, like melodic/style wise that I can't quite explain.

Probably everything on SXT is an influence to them in some way or another, but yeah, they actually have:

- The meeting between these two Scotsmen, Marcus Eoin, 24, and Michael Sandison, two years his elder, dates as far back as their school-years.
"We started in the late 80s playing together in a guitar band but using a technological environment like samplers or synths, in the same way as Killing Joke, Nitzer Ebb or My Bloody Valentine."

Have you ever worked with a guitar in the studio before?
Mike: " Actually, just before recording "Twoism" was our turning point. Until then, the whole album was a lot of guitar. Between 1994 and 1995, the year of pr was probably 10 months trying to make something like this, influenced by music like Killing Joke. Very dark guy. After that, I ran into a big break with that kind of thing, and I became really smutless, and I decided to do something intuitively and intuitively. I really wanted to do simple electronic music and minimal music. And I tried to make it as empty and relaxed as possible, and the result was "Twoism"."

^ above is terribly translated by google that's why it barely makes any sense

Thanks for the info. I always had a feeling ever since I got into KJ, "Wardance" even reminded me of A07. MBV were also influenced by them too I think, so there's that link too.

Anyone else hear the ending to "The Way You Show" throughout "Smokes Quantity"?

Oh wow yeah I totally do! I'm not smart enough to do any of that fancy audio isolation but I've love to hear those two lined up some how.

I feel like there is an opportunity for a "Twoism" YouTube page that we could post up and organize all the audio and visual samples that we know of used by BOC. There are some big samples that have been found recently and they're sort of scattered all over. Things such as:

IABOITC "come and out live with a religious community..."
1969 "although not a follower of David Koresh..."
You Could Feel The Sky "a god with horns..."
Energy Warning beginning sample from "The Falls"
Sixtyten "Terror From The Year 5000" sample
ROYGBIV trill and "lake" sample
All the little adverts from Societas X

Visual Samples could include stuff like their live visuals pull from "Protect and Survive, "Warren Miller's In Search of Skiing," and "Flair: a Ski Trip", etc etc

It's just the fade-in from the previous track, Ready Lets Go which uses something like Sferic as a sample.

It's a good idea, if someone want to make it, could do individual Videos of each song or Compilations, and with time update them with part 2, 3... with the new discoveries.

Could the running water sample in Aquarius be lifted from the pouring of the orange juice in the Minute Maid commercial, as used in Societas X Tape?

I'm not at my computer so unable to manipulate the song, but anyone hearing a similarity with the rising synth sample in Aquarius at 1.56?

I think the rising synth in Aquarius is a synth preset. I've heard very similar arps in a bunch of tunes (such as this one at 1:08 https://youtu.be/oEp2DkHMxJM?t=68) but it's never listed as a sample. Makes me think that it's 'composed' every time.

Have we combed this site for any samples? It's where BOC got the Energy Conservation PSA sample for Energy Warning and this is the host site.

http://dt.prohosting.com/dtindex.html

(For the energy warning sample, go to 70's Page, 70's Children TV, and scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll see 4-H Conservation Advert, the quality of the MP3 is identical to the quality in Energy Warning.)

I didn't find the site, I believe a user named oliveoil22 discovered it.

That's not the only one, it's also got the "Peanut butter... It's doggone good!" sample from Satellite Anthem Icarus! I'd say we should definitely keep poking around here lmao
If The Campfire Headphase was a butterfly, would Acid Memories be the caterpillar?
Spoiler: show
Unfortunately I have no clue lmao. But while you're here, go ahead and check out some of my tunes! You might dig 'em and stuff!

Oh got damn I didn't know it had that one either, the quality is super crisp too. I'll comb through the site and see what I could find. I have a hunch some photos might be used in the art for TCH or something.
