Warp X is pleased to announce the UK premiere of All Tomorrow’s Partiesat the Edinburgh International Film Festival screening on 24 and 25 June. All Tomorrow’s Parties is a kaleidoscopic journey into the parallel musical universe of the cult music festival of the same name.

All Tomorrow’s Parties is a DIY concert film featuring performances from an eclectic mix artists including: A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Akron/Family, Animal Collective, Aphex Twin, Battles, Belle and Sebastian, Boards of Canada, Daniel Johnston, David Cross, Dirty Three, Eye (Boredoms), Fuck Buttons, Gossip, Grinderman, Grizzly Bear, GZA, Iggy and the Stooges, Jah Shaka, John Cooper Clarke, Les Savy Fav, Lightning Bolt, Mogwai, Mars Volta, Micah P Hinson, Mr Derry, Nurse with Wound, Octopus Project, Patti Smith, Portishead, Roscoe Mitchell, Saul Williams, Seasick Steve, Shellac, Slint, Sonic Youth, Two Gallants and Yeah Yeah Yeah's.

The film is a semi-found bricolage made from Super8, camcorder and mobile phone footage contributed by over two hundred filmmakers, fans and musicians over the festival’s recent history, with key contributions from co-director Jonathan Caouette (Tarnation) and cinematographer Vincent Moon (The Take Away Shows, Arcade Fire).

Future Cinema, in association with Warp Films, ATP and Synergy, will present the premiere of All Tomorrow’s Parties as part of a unique live cinema event at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 24. The film will be screened and brought to life in an immersive and 360 degree musical experience..

All Tomorrow’s Parties is a fiercely independent festival that many music lovers regard as one of the most important music events in the world. In an intimate and communal atmosphere, free of corporate sponsorship, it serves up a heady combination of alternative music, crazy golf and chalet-living, with musicians and fans living side by side. At each festival a band or artist is chosen to gather up their favourite artists who perform over a weekend in an out-of-season holiday camp by the sea. Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore described the festival as the ‘ultimate mix tape’.

All Tomorrow’s Parties will have a UK multi-platform release this September with one night only theatrical events, a DVD release and digital download available through Warp Films.

This is wicked awesome. I will definitely be picking up a copy when it comes out. I'm pleasantly surprised that there are bands/artists besides Boards of Canada on this that I'll want to see.

Sweet.

Too little is better than none at all.

Anyone here going to be able to make the premiere and report back?

EDIT: apparently this is just the UK premiere, it already has shown at SXSW and Warp20:

March 14, 19, 21 - Austin @ SXSW (world premiere)
May 8 - Paris @ Warp20

More showings:
May 26, 28 - Seattle @ Seattle International Film Festival
May 27 - Barcelona @ Primavera Sound
June 20 - Dublin @ Irish Film Institute
June 25 - Los Angeles @ Los Angeles International Film Festival

Additional blurb from Warp Films:

Warp Films wrote:And something extra special is planned for the UK Premier at Edinburgh Festival!

Presented by Future Cinema, audiences will enter a world of blue coats, midnight bingo, Northern Soul dancers, live bands and DJs and a very secret, very special live guest. See and hear the film bought to life through a fusion of music and performance. This is the UK film Premiere, an immersive festival party, a 50s holiday camp dreamland.

Okay, I don't think there's a chance in hell that it's BoC, but interesting nonetheless!

I can't help feeling if it was BOC Warp would just come out and say so. They must know that putting "very secret, very special live guest" + Edinburgh will lead to speculation. Assuming they aren't playing, what would be the next best way to get bums on seats? Make a non-committal statement suggesting they might play, knowing full well people may take a chance? Or am I being cynical?

Of course, now I've tied my colours to the mast and said I don't think it's them, they are just BOUND to be playing. Bollocks...

well crackerjaw confirmed, and being that she is one of warpfilms producers, she is usually in the know.

though you carry a very valid point, that if she hadnt given confirmation, i would be very much the skeptic ;)

maybe Fredd-E can double up on the confirmation if he reads this

Looks brilliant this does :) Might be me being obsessive but around the 30 second mark there's a night vision snippet of a bonfire... they wouldn't have footage of red moon gatherings/BOCfires though right? Plus check the dj turning his head immediately after...

I noticed that only the news item from Warp mentions Boards of Canada, so likely they have only a very small part, and Warp is just promoting their bands.

Well BOC or no BOC I'm going!

Having read the blurb again it sounds like a cracking night out anyway and as me and the Mrs will be in Edinburgh that night it would be rude not to. :D
