The market for vinyl is only growing larger as CDs hit the dustbin. Great opportunity for someone to spin up a vinyl pressing business.

Then again there is only so much you can participate in when listening to a new album on streaming/downloading terms. On a streaming version of an album you only get the music, whether with CD’s & vinyl there is much more interactivity. Vinyl for example: the joy of putting the needle on the record and awaiting the sounds to reach your ears. Looking at the full artwork of which the artist has hoped give a visual accompaniment of what they want their work to portray, the fact is CD’s and vinyl (and the want for physical copies) will be something we all would hope to have in the future from our favourite artists. Plus the fact that streaming services pay much less to the musician(s) for each stream, Gary numan said he was paid 37 quid for 1 million streams of one of his songs! I only hope that warp will continue to make physical copies of albums by artists on their roster. So yeah, the CD’s story is ending but for vinyl it’s only just beginning :D

Don’t know what prompted me to type this, hopefully this collage professor won’t possess me again, and if he does, I’ll get him to give us some information on what the bros have planned for their next album!

Thanks for making me imagine the feeling when I finally put the needle to the new BOC vinyl. The day when that finally happens is going to be completely unbelievable.

Vinyl crackle is like the unwritten rule for BOC as all their albums have that analog fuzzyfeel, if they were to make a album with vocals, A Trip-hop sound would suit their style well I think!
Imagine a massive attack/boards of canada collaboration. we are getting close to something hopefully, so don’t let the ‘inertia creep’ in!

Don't forget the joy of having to pause the listening by 1/2 or 1/4 of the album length to change the side of the record that is being played. One can peacefully use the time to reflect on what has been played. It helps one know the album better. The vinyl is the media of the attentive, patient listener.

Some people say that vinyls need to be cleaned to remove any dust or static. I say the hell with that. The more dust, the more lovely hiss and crackles to interfere with my listening.

Tomorrow's Harvest CD was my most played record of all time. Literally hundred hours of playtime while travelling. My turntable and vinyls collecting dust at parrents house. CD is a cool versatile little format.

Even if I'm more a cd guy for infinite plays, I'm going to buy the new BOC album (or whatever) on vinyl and wear it out like they did in the classic days.

Here’s some 80’s CD nostalgia for ya that I love reading in the booklets, this is from my moody blues - seventh sojourn CD

“The Compact Disc Digital Audio System offers the best possible sound reproduction - on a small, convenient sound-carrier unit. The compact disc’s superior performance is the result of laser-optical scanning combined with digital playback, and is independent of the technology used in making the original recording.
This recording technology is identified on the back cover by a three letter code:
DDD = digital tape recorder used during session recording, mixing and/or editing, and mastering (transcription)
ADD = analogue tape recorder used during session recording, digital tape recorder used during subsequent mixing and/or editing and during mastering (transcription)
AAD = analogue tape recorder used during session recording and subsequent mixing and/or editing, digital tape recorder used during mastering (transcription)
In storing and handling the compact disc, you should apply the same care as with conventional records. No further cleaning will be necessary if the compact disc is always held by the edges and is replaced in its case directly after playing. Should the compact disc become soiled by fingerprints, dust, or dirt, it can be wiped (always in a straight line, from centre to edge) with a clean and lint-free, soft, dry cloth.
No solvent or abrasive cleaner should ever be used on the disc.
If you follow these suggestions, the Compact Disc will provide a lifetime of pure listening enjoyment.”

Well Philips did put a lot of thought into that! Wish they weren’t so robotic and drill Sargent’y though. Ahh the strict 80s!

TV: “welcome to Americans strongest man” Alan proceeds to turn off the television and turns to Michael

“Have you taped over the spy who loved me with America’s strongest man?”

“No I haven’t, it’s terry, he’s done it. It’s his fault.”

Terry speaks “I’m really sorry I really wanted to see America’s strongest man.”

Alan: “well now you’ve got Norfolk’s maddest man!!!! I wanted to watch roger Moore necking with Fiona Fullerton, and instead I’ve now got to watch a giant Michael Bolton lookalike in a tight vest throwing an oven over bales of hay!”

Not sure if it was mentioned but Slurpyland has been removed off of Apple Music and Spotify. The Lil Trust artist is gone as well from what I can see. There still seems to show other Lil Trust artists but not the one that had all of that ridiculous album artwork.

I firmly believe CDs generally sound much better than vinyls, however what the LPs have on their side for me is, first, a bigger art cover that's always beautiful to watch, and also the idea of having some music that you love in physical format, by that I mean to know the music you love exists physically within the grooves of the disc.

even if CDs offer a higher sound quality technically, i'm pretty sure our ears just tend to connect with analog sound better.

... which is also part of the reason BoC are so good - they value analog quality

This I why I hold physical versions of albums over streaming versions, because you actually own the music, whether you have it on CD or vinyl, that’s yours. you can’t own a version on your mobile, but I do find it handy that if you buy a new release on vinyl they generally have a download code with them, which is good if the record is warped or skips, but yeah, I can agree on the majority here that the joy of having an artists project in your hands is a good feeling indeed! :D

Actually i did an interview with an indie label specialised on vinyl pressing. According to them, vinyls aren't really "growing back" per say. It' just that after their downfall, they have always been existing as a niche collector thing. CDs on the other hand aren't since it's not as sinificative or unique as an item.

What does seems to be happening however, is that mainstream records/labels are taking a little bit more on the collector's market. And it seems to be more efficient according to the genre (i've heard it's motly indie rock, retro pop and electronic/idm/techno).

Just chipping in this neverending topic... Vinyl sounds better than digital only if you are using really good setup, good pressing, turntable, even cables, up to a soundsystem. When you play vinyl that way there is no difference from digital, which is made to sound good wherever it plays. Anyone who is a DJ and plays both vinyl and digital together knows this.

I had TCH EP on white vinyl and digital sounded way better.

Completely agree with you.

But with Digital you don’t get the satisfaction of dropping the needle on the last side of Geogaddi stoned just to “see” if anything happens.
