It's the kind of thing that would be cool in hindsight and you'd wish you could do but to plan something ten years away with a cryptic clue is insane. Who knows what will happen in that time. They might have had a burst of creativity and want to release 3 albums, Warp could go bust, or worse. Of course, they are no tied to the clue by pain of death but I think it's really silly to waste your time and hopes looking backward. Yes, Boc look backward with their musical vibe, ideas and timbres but personally, you'd expect them to look forward, like any artist, you release something and it's out there, done. Chapter over. Move on and make something fresh and new.
And like us all, they are flying by the seat of their pants and something will come together and form an album in time. They are normal dudes, not super brains.

You really don't need forethought to be honest. They could look back at their artwork today and pick something from it (822 for instance) and use that gimmick for a future release thing. This way they didn't need to think about it in 2013 and still make it an actual thing. But I agree even in this scenario this seems very unlikely to me.

Ironically, they could choose 8/22 or some other significant date and fuel our madness.

But I have a feeling their next interview will involve a quote like: "We didn't intend for the Tomorrow's Harvest campaign to influence the fanbase into thinking we had some secret code for the next release. We were simply taking care of our family and working at our usual snails pace."

Kind of expect this as their reaction to all the entertaining predictions, but it would be a lot funnier if they actually did something to fuel the fire.

Actually...I Feel Good, the weird Mike on fire picture, the song quotes and potential adult swim bumpers did that pretty well :P

I'm also going to add this bit of positivity to the thread.

Somewhere out there, there is:

-A tracklisting of brand new boccy titles

-Artwork compiled from a variety of old and new images, including a brand new typeface for the logo

-At least 60 minutes worth of new IDM(?) tunes in a brand new direction

Possibly on two or even three formats if we count cassettes

While I'm not so confident we're getting it soon, a new album on the way entails the above and so much more! :)

The Fantastic Mr. Fox has been a tirelessly devoted messiah to the cause.

Freudian slips and predictive text having their wily way I'm sure.

I agree. I only worry for Hex Fox because BOC don't like it when you get too close to the truth. Opoth almost cracked the code on their Twitter and that's when the Hexagon Compound ninja assassins were dispatched.

Just a quick sidetrack question: i’m watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind for probably the 40th time in my life and I’m noticing towards the end of the movie on top of Devils Tower there is a drone sound towards the beginning of when the spaceships start communicating with the humans. Can any of you think of another reference in a movie where a drone sound were introduced prior to this movie?

FRONTLINE NET OBSERVATION RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

9/30 12/3 4/5 11/24

The internet is evil, but HexagonFox is still here, it made me remember "feeling bad can feel good" and that the Autumnal Equinox is coming. Almost done harvesting. My heart goes out to the people who suffered from the rains and the floods. While it was faint at least we had a glimmer of the stars on 8/22.

We have an incoming transmission on the horizon. It seems The Brothers are in the past, present and future at the same time. They could be approaching their hardest task yet.

At least Stereolab is out this week. Then all that's left is Clark and we can finally open the schedule up again...to Jockstrap.

My current belief is that the album will release in 2023, some time between January and June.

I feel like the album was completed some time in the past year or so and Warp's marketing team have been holding on to the release, reason being is that if they release it in 2023 the marketing team can use the "decade long wait is over" language which, let's be honest, is extremely powerful.

I don't believe the wait will be for nothing, Aphex Twin followed up his decade long wait with not only Syro, but also Cheetah, Computer Instruments and Collapse. I expect at this point, BoC will follow up LP5 with a few more projects, I doubt we will have to wait too long, probably just a year or two apart.

My final point was as to why I believe it'll be between January and June. IF indeed the album has been completed and turned into Warp since the "I Feel Good" video. Then the album will have to go through a few phases, such as mastering, music videos, and other kinds of marketing decisions.

I don't believe the album will just randomly be announced on Twitter, they're smarter than that. They want people to be excited, so I'm sure something creative is being planned. All of this ties back to the marketing team wanting to use the "decade long wait is over" quote, if indeed this is the case, I believe it will release before the end of THIS fiscal year, as marketing teams normally go by fiscal years, not general years.

We are currently in the 10th fiscal year since Tomorrows Harvest right now, it will end on June 10th 2023. Would it not be funny for them to release it on June 9th 2023? Which, just so happens to be a Friday.

Anyway, just a bit of speculation on my part, it's been a while since I've been able to offer anything speculation wise, but here we are, I officially have a new timeframe to believe in.

Encouraging take! Sheesh, the "I Feel Good" video seems like ages ago. That was so bonkers.

Rather than my usual brand of sarcastic shitposting, I'm gonna take a brief moment to actually give my honest predictions for a moment (blarg!)

Whatever they do next my main hope is that it expands in some way upon the sounds and/or themes of the Societas X Tape, which from everything I've read in interviews and what not seems to be a menagerie of the many different styles that have influenced them over the years. The fact that a lot of it also sounds remarkably similar to the fleeting snippets of pre-Twoism albums we've gotten, the more well known pre-twoism material from the Old Tunes series, and written descriptions of unreleased materials in interviews gives me even more confidence that they're gonna do something in the vein of SXT next. For example:

-Killing Joke's "Unspeakable" demo (the fact that they used a demo version is very interesting in and of itself but let's keep that in the back pocket for now) and the as-of-yet-unidentified guitar interlude before The Other Stranger both match up neatly with the sound of Play By Numbers, which we can confirm from the infamous Wouldn't You Like To Be Free snippet. They also basically spell it out with this interview quote from the Jul/Aug 1998 issue of "Magic":
Mike wrote:We started in the late 80s playing together in a guitar band but using a technological environment like samplers or synths, in the same way as Killing Joke, Nitzer Ebb or My Bloody Valentine.
With that in mind I almost wouldn't be surprised if what we've heard of Acid Memories and Hooper Bay were actually interludes chosen because they sound more like modern BoC than the rest of the album which is probably full of guitars and vocals lmao

-Speaking of Acid Memories, remember that one infamous interview quote that described it?
Jockey Slut Magazine wrote:Absurdly rare, cassette-only release from the barely teen Boards, then six-strong. Guitars meet electronics in embryonic but recognisably Boards-ian melodicism.
Sounds an awful lot like These Trails by Garden Botanum and also a few tracks on the R35TT, doesn't it?

-There's also "Strangers" by The Sinking Ships, which is so remarkably close to descriptions of the post-punky Joy Division/The Fall type stuff that they're known to have flirted with (and even covered) in the past that it was even mistakenly believed to be their pre-BOC band "Wheeltower" for a while before its true identity was discovered.

I could go on and on like this, lining up SXT tracks with things they've either done or mentioned in the past (not to mention how much of it sounds like it could've come straight off Old Tunes 1 or 2). The point I'm leading up to is that whether the next release looks to the future (LP5) or the past (BOCSet) we've got a pretty good map of several different possibilities as to what it could potentially sound like. The fact that they've always made it very clear that they have no interest in making two albums that are basically the same also leads me to believe that the next thing they do is gonna be pretty wild while still retaining their trademark "past inside the present" quality lmao

The ultimate gotcha move would be if they slipped exactly one track from the upcoming release or an unreleased album into the SXT somewhere and are just playing the long game before they come out and basically reveal "Yeh, it's been right under yer noses all along!" :P

Guessing the sound is much more interesting than guessing the release date since unlike with that they can't just change it at the drop of a hat every time someone guesses it correctly, wouldn't you agree?
If The Campfire Headphase was a butterfly, would Acid Memories be the caterpillar?
Spoiler: show
Unfortunately I have no clue lmao. But while you're here, go ahead and check out some of my tunes! You might dig 'em and stuff!

Boy, It'd be ruddy cool if I said I was a wordsmith and typed out all that speculation of the past few posts by Demo and Jango. But sound-wise or date-wise I haven't got the foggiest on the upcoming BoC, nor the time to write anything!

Such fascinating points all.
