Oh my.

This released today. They have 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify. I guess similar results on other streaming platforms. Well we can only hope the brothers rake in the royalties for this one.

Can someone explain to me on a fundamental level how such a thing comes to life?
I assume $UICIDEBOY$ (or their label) have to clear their tracks, with regards to sample usage, and as such have to contact the rightsholder of EYDIAB (I assume Warp) to see if they're ok with this. And additionally, a % of royalties will have to be paid to Warp and subsequently to BoC?

Or can they use the sample and pay royalties and be done with it without permission?
Do you think BoC has something to say in all this?

I know it's not the first time this happens, but in this case, it's pretty prominent sample usage and also such a key song of theirs. Strange I think.

Listening to this made me think that in a parallel universe, EYDIAB could've been composed for a JD Sports ad. And now, I can't unhear it.

BoC never struck me as the type that would be that against something like this. It would probably be a tad hypocritical of them anyway.

They will probably not love the style but I doubt that they'd care, if anything they'd probably be flattered. (So funny you guys posted that, a friend of mine posted that song on her IG story today and I just thought it was a subliminal hello).

Gets me thinking, anyone else sample BoC?

The artists use samples to create the track, then the record company should be clearing the sampled materials with the respective publishers and negotiating what percentage of the publishing the brothers get and if they get a writing credit. The brothers are likely to be able to veto if they disapprove, you sometimes hear about tracks that don’t get released because the artist couldn’t get sample clearance. That’s how it should work for something like this where the sample is obvious, however if it was a sample of a drum break or a short snippet the artists might play coy about it and not disclose or credit the sample.

Occasionally you hear of record companies or artists saying “fuck it” and releasing something with uncleared samples and then there can be retrospective legal action.

Hi

Im really sorry you took that the wrong way

I was more interested in the name "Satan Mega Drive"

And if you haven't noticed everything that I have mentioned here gets deleted.
So I was testing a theory .
I was cleaning Youtube

but I have been following this really interesting VHS tape that popped up this past year.
Probably BOC.....
Let me know if you need the link

Also I'm pretty sure suicide boys are also Boards of Canada.
Mike person told me personally.

I am shocked that BoC gave permission to $UICIDEBOY$ to use the sample of such an iconic song. The song has such different vibe from what BoC represents or from what they do. I don't know if $UICIDEBOY$ offered a ton of money to Warp and them and decided to sell it or what.

A few years ago I mentioned that I felt that The Bros were somewhat milking the cow by selling t-shirts and re-releases and not offering a new album, just wanting fresh money. I respect that it is their music and can sell the sample to whoever they want, but it is just shocking to me to hear the nice Everything You Do Is A Balloon chopped up and misused or wasted in such a horrendous song by $UICIDEBOY$. It is like going to a Medieval Cathedral in Belgium and painting graffiti on the walls, columns, stained glass, and the Priest applauding and thinking: "Ow, this is going to bring more tourists to my Cathedral".

Anyways, they know better than me why they have sold it and they can do as they please with their tracks, but I feel kind of sad about it!

In September 2016, Canadian DJ and record producer Deadmau5 accused the duo of copyright infringement following the success of their song Antarctica (off of the 2016 mixtape Dark Side of the Clouds).[27] The song samples parts of Deadmau5's "I Remember", with Kaskade; the DJ lambasted the duo for this, claiming that Suicideboys were "publicizing other people's intellectual property without consent".[28]—
——Taken from Suicide boys Wikipedia.

Like him or not (totally personal preference) but I heard he likes the brothers (a lot) he may be referring to this situation.
Although this is just …….

I think these $uicideboy$ are aware of Bocs huge and dedicated fan base and they've done this simply to get people talking about them, get their song shared around more. I really don't think they are huge or dedicated fans themselves as the sampling seems a bit lackluster. I mean it's ok but it's not really very creative

I'm surprised they went this way too. They could easily get cash by selling me their unreleased music ;)

That said, I don't like the song that sampled EYDIAB either but BOC are rap fans. They've said so themselves in interviews. Their music itself is pretty hip hoppy in places even if we BOC fans tend to think they're not as crass as something like this song.

I would trust BOC actually producing a hip hop album too. Good Friday and Treat Em Right are fantastic and I'm hardly what you'd call a hip hop fan.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

They have multiple songs with half a million plays on Spotify; they're big. BoC fans are small potatoes more than we'd like to think. Hell, BoC are still RDJ's shadow to a degree.

It ain't always about us.

My thoughts exactly. I can’t picture them being territorial about sampling.

I hate to say it, but that track is kinda dope!

True. Easy to forget when you live in a bocuum.

I'm not a particular fan of these guys but a Boc sanctioned Ghostface album would be.. Killah

This reminds me of the boc rap someone posted here a few months ago. Don't remember if it was in this thread.
