1977.

Is this perhaps one of the earliest BOC connections to Scotland and New Zealand?

I’m imagining BOC or Hexagon Sun recorded this from a live on air broadcast then manipulated with the trippy kaleidoscope effect for their live ATP visuals?

It appears 1977 is the year the VHS tape was released also.

Might not be that film after all. But I'm convinced it's a warren miller. It features a paraglider on skis. Then I saw this...

The colors are blown out in the live visuals--the reds are deeper, the blues are deeper.

The guy/lady that appears at 2:25 in the J&C video and then at 2:30 with something on his/her head. I'm trying to find that scene on the Flare movie but can't seem to find it.

I actually came across those movies just earlier today! It could be any of those tbh, they all look so similar.

Yeah, I saw a paraglider in one Warren Miller film years back but I can't remember which one. I've only just realised he died a couple of years back. He had a remarkable life. I used to buy his dvd's to take out to the mountains. I liked them because it wasn't just music and skiing - they had content. Anyhow, I'm now on a mission to find the footage that they used in the Julie and Candy vid. I found this which has reference to 1977 and has synthesiser music on it. It's clearly not the footage, but a nice find with some forgotten music. Would be great to find the full vid. Music is lovely.

That does look incredibly similar. But I can't seem to find the skier in the full blue outfit.
Yep, it's also missing that paraglider shot, and none of the suits seem to be pink either.
There is no paraglider in the music video--they are hunched down over their skis as they brace for launch. Would you mind citing the time in the J&C video you're referencing?
1:57 - paraglider. You can see that they are holding the triangle shaped bar. It's got to be warren miller. Especially since Warren Miller used the kaleidoscope effect on Ski Ala Carte.

It could very possibly be a combination of both films. I know that there are more than one image happening at a time, at some points. Someone more versed in video/graphics could definitely help out here.

Possible Tom, but I don't see any evidence of the footage from the New Zealand video. There are folk that who have said that this was manipulated live at the event. Well I didn't see any evidence of that either. Also there are very subtle fade points on the video. I'm not saying that it's impossible to do live, but I am saying it would be with such accurate and subtle results.

If you look at the footage from 2:00, you can see a paraglider close to camera or likely zoomed in, then the camera quickly pans out and we see more dark patches. These dark patches are the mountains behind the paraglider appearing on the video. 2:15 - At this point we only see the front tip of the wing, then there's a cut and we get closer to the paraglider. At 2:18 we get some very clear shots of the whole wing. There is a clear fade transmission at 2:25 when the blue suited skier appears. Also notice that the video goes into slo mo at this point. The kaleidoscopic shapes that spark into life towards the climatic build, with ski poles, blue skies and sun flares look very much like the early 8mm shots that Warren Miller was famous for. The real proof would be to find early film of a paraglider with the same wing colour and pattern.

The New Zealand film is really nice though. Especially those low light, end of day ski shots at sunset.

This guy has done some lovely simple shots of 8mm film alongside some interesting music. I myself own a canon 310 XL, I've just bought a cartridge for like 40 quid. You get about 3 minutes of film time so you gotta be really careful about what you shoot. It's a healthy way to discourage selfies and other forms of narcissistic photographic behaviour.

Quick chime in maybe helps someone, that is not paragliding, it is called hang gliding and the blue guy doesn't seem to have skis, so he's only flying. There are bunch of these vids on yt.

Yeah, I meant hang gliding. He's wearing skis, you just can't see them because of the contrast. I believe it is a skier called Jeff Jobe. He was the first to 'hang glider' ski apparently in 1969 when Warren Miller filmed him. I'm. not sure that this is the footage though as the glider is a different colour. Or the colours have been shifted on the boc version? Who knows?

Pause it at 2:19 - you'll see the planks when the contrast is adjusted. They appear white now.

You can see skis on his feet, actually--they are blown out and appear as white space--you can see the heel behind his leg, and then you can see the tip of the skis covering his shin. But I did find a skier in all blue that matches this image in the Warren Miller trailer. Check it out: https://imgur.com/a/x3uAM87

There are skiers in all red outfits in both these films--but nothing in the Warren Miller preview that is available that looks similar to the skiers in red in the video. We'll need to get access to the full film to find out.

I've had a look through the In Search of Skiing movie as I have it on DVD. However I can't see anything that looks like it. It could even be that the footage is in some of his later films. There was always a return to the retro within Warren's later films to provide contrast to how things had changed. Stunts getting more and more crazy, technology improving etc. He could have had loads of chops laying around that weren't used in the originals. But I'd bet any money BoC at some point saw Ski ala Carte. Big question is. Are they into snow sports?

From the 2005 interview "The Last Secret of Pop" in OOR (original in Dutch):

"Marcus Eoin (32) is more handsome, sportier too. He turns out to be an avid snowboarder."

Given that they changed the caption for the video a few times (1976, 1977 and 1978 I think), it's very possible that they sampled the footage (and maybe some dialogue) from Ski ala Carte (1978). Not to mention the obvious Geogaddi cover similarities.

Ski ala Carte is apparently available on Prime, but unfortunately unavailable in my country. If anyone wants to have a go.

I put together a little tribute to Warren Miller. Tom posting the video of the New Zealand Skiers sent me on a bit of a wild goose chase last night and today. I've found some incredible facts and superb footage (by Warren), not to mention some beautiful music. I've made sure to feature the kaleidoscope footage from Ski Ala Carte. He lived to the grand old age of 93, served in the U.S navy during WW2 and then, after that he seemed to spend the rest of his days skiing or filming everything about snow sports.

Hell yeah! This is one of my favorite BoC finds I've seen in a long time, very cool. Lets see if they also sampled some audio from it :)
