New melodic, glitchy IDM from me: "Invis"

Sat Sep 20, 2008 8:47 am

I think it's time for me to finally call this song finished, after having initially started on it almost a year and a half ago. The original idea came from me hearing a few seconds of some Autechre song (no, I don't know which one) on a streaming radio station, with some awesomely glitchy drums, being inspired by the sound, and immediately setting off to write a song based on that inspiration. The resulting song is very much my own, though, and it's definitely not a remake or imitation of anything that I know of. :P

It's got some synth sounds that I programmed for it, intricate drum programming, strings, various ethnic-sounding influences, some distorted breaks, and this amazing BoC-esque synth patch that was programmed by a friend of mine, that comes in around halfway through the song. I <3 that sound and he is totally awesome. (Check him out! http://www.virb.com/tompritchard )

I might end up making some more adjustments to the mixing, especially if Esselalbum 2.0 ever comes to exist, but for now I'm happy with it. :)

Without further adieu, here's Esselfortium - Invis:

Hope you guys enjoy it! :D

Nice! I really like the intricate drum programming, you can tell a lot of time was put into it.

My pleasure! Let me know if you knock up anything similar. My stuff is linked in my sig, check it out if you want and let me know what you think.

Very nice!
From the description I expected an Autechre clone but I was very pleasantly surprised!

I'm listening to some of the tracks on your MySpace now. Pigeon Protection is pretty excellent! The bassline is funky and the bits of fuzzy piano are great.

Edit: I really like Weather's Close, too! I'm a sucker for strings. Good stuff, man :)

Cool stuff! Nice atmospherics, they back the melody well and don't feel out of place. Kind of soundtrack-y IMO.

Thanks guys!

Oyster, it's just good ol' regular 4/4.
