My music - melancholy fuzzed-out tunes, cyberpunk, and more

Fri Mar 04, 2011 4:46 am

Hi there!

A few of you might remember my first release A Terrible Flood from 2007 (I refuse to believe it has been that long already) or the pair of songs I had on One On Twoism Vol. 1.

I've been working veeeery slowly since then on my second full-length, titled Seventeen More Times. In the few months (or less?) remaining before its completion and finalization, I'll be posting up previews and samplers of what I've been working on! I can get pretty obsessively perfectionist, which is the main reason it's taken me so long to consider this stuff ready for human ears.

Anyways, I finally got around to setting up a Facebook artist page and a SoundCloud account the other day to share music and news with!

For ease of the clicking, here's the three songs I've posted up so far:
18 Apostolos (Seventeen More Times, 2011) - Warm and fuzzy downtempo tune that builds into a melancholy synth melody
Zwei (Seventeen More Times, 2011) - Cyberpunk-themed drum and bass with a cold, rainy atmosphere
Kaianide (A Terrible Flood, 2007) - Squelchy breakbeats with lots of distortion

Oh, right, the cover art:

I'll be posting up lots more new and old tunes there in the near future, so Like/Subscribe to stay updated! Comments and questions are much appreciated.

I love the three that you posted :D really good work!

Can't wait to hear more =)

Thanks Spenner!

I'm not quite sure what I want to post up next, but there'll probably be something soon. Most recently I've been working on some mastering (or what passes for it in essel-land) adjustments, mixing improvements, and other subtleties.

I definitely like what I'm hearing in 'Zwei'. Great arrangement and melodies. Your production style is very 'clean' which could be seen as a good and/or bad thing. I personally like this kind of music to sound a little rough around the edges (hence I am posting on what is ostensibly a BoC forum).

Keep up the good work!

Thanks a ton!

And that's good to hear, that it's clean; makes me more confident in my mixing ability. Everything sounding clean so far might just have to influence my next pick for a song to post, though — I'd hate to be pigeonholed. ;)

I've posted up another new song from "Seventeen More Times", as well as an older one from "A Terrible Flood".

Introjection (Seventeen More Times, 2011) - Piano-infused drum and bass that explodes into an ominous industrial finale

Ones (A Terrible Flood, 2007) - Experimental, frozen-over electronica as performed by glaciers and satellites

Introjection is a particular favorite of mine; hope you guys like it :)

Hmm, no interest? Bah.

Anyway, I posted up something new today, a little song called "White Wash":

It's an experiment: I set out to create a soundalike of the 80s-infused, hazy sound of sample-based chillwave songs like Washed Out's "Feel It All Around", but in an all-original composition rather than sampling any existing songs to do it.

As part of the process of creating this tune, I created a rack configuration in Reason with which to effectively "sample" myself, creating an entire song and then processing the mixer's resulting stereo output as though I were working with a sample.

I also used a hell of a lot of compression, reverb, and tape distortion. Because.

(One or two of you might remember me posting an earlier version of this song in another thread several months ago.)

I really like the new song. You've really got to the "80s-infused, hazy sound of sample-based chill wave"-feeling :)

White wash is great! Keep it up man, I'm really enjoying your stuff.

Thanks guys!

I might have to polish up and post some of the other songs and experiments that I haven't officially released anywhere and aren't slated for the album. It's fun and the pressure is a little bit less :P

New song, called "MPU".

This one's a slow-building melodic ambient piece to accompany a long journey through the expanse of space.
