What a great topic to discuss. A lot of inspiration to find!

I once bought The Amateur View by To Rococo Rot on vinyl just because of the vinyl cover:

Also this cover of Cry by Cigarettes After Sex is a stunning photography and editing:

I whish I would have come up with such a great cover for my own music. :D

Feast/Beast by Clark is also a mesmerizing cover. Can't stop to stare at this!

For Boards Of Canada I can't chose from Twoism, Geogaddi and Campfire Headphase. At Campfire Headphase it's really just the colour I like so much. Geogaddi is the first time I actually enjoyed the combination of red and yellow. A daring combination but it worked out. I also have this Special CD-Book Edition with extended artwork which makes this album even more good-looking.

I scrolled my music library for this and I also have to mention that coverart isn't an easy thing. Just now I noticed how much of it looks sh*t. :D

NIN's theme of physical/spiritual/digital decay in their album covers has fascinated me as long as I've been a fan. Sometimes I've legitimately forgot some of them don't even have the names on them:

It's an underrated artform. For the hell of it I once looked up a "top 100 album covers of the past year" and, at the very least, 95% looked boring and uninspiring. I blame the decline of physical media as a contributing factor.

Funki Porcini - Fast Asleep (Artwork by Kevin Foakes aka DJ Food)

The fact that this was done in 2002 still blows my mind.

Stone cold agree, definitely an under-appreciated art form. I'm glad to see this thread again.

I agree, even if I don't end up releasing my music physically in the future I would be sure to make more visual material for it, since I consider booklets a really important thing when you're experiencing an album.

(I also love NIN's album covers, I'd say Pretty Hate Machine is my favorite from them)

The artwork for Stephen Mallinder's upcoming album really caught my eye:

Getting this album some weeks ago made me realize how much I love the VHS/Digital visual identity the band had, so here's some of my favorite examples of cover art from the band's releases at that time

The members of Genesis were always good with album art. ('cept Mr. Collins who slapped his mug on every one. )

Peter Gabriel - Us (1992)

Simian - Chemistry is what we are (2001)

I really admire the effort and detail that went into the cover for Reggie and The Full Effect's second album:

Jefferson Airplane - Crown of Creation (1968)
Image

Tindersticks - Distractions (2020) (kaleidoscopic design, slightly unnerving.)
Image

Radiohead - In Rainbows (2007)

Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygène 3 (2016)
Image

Yello - Toy (2016)

The Jefferson one is a particular favorite, placing the band in the center of an atom bomb is both foreboding and trippy. :D

It kinda looks like a frame from an early Cronenberg movie like Scanners or something -- one of my faves. Album sound is hi-fi af

I love all loscil's album covers. His ambient music, artwork & photography blends really well.

Some fine examples:

A while back I made a collage of 16 of his albums for a loscil introduction playlist:

Any cover that's primarily green and/or is a close up of foliage or plants

Image
Skee Mask - Pool

Image
Gas - Pop
(it almost feels like cheating to post Gas' artwork but he has some of the best...)

Image
Gas - Rausch

Image
Gas - Der Lange Marsch

Image
Skee Mask - A

Image
Gas - Oktember

Image
Four Tet - Parallel
(this one's mainly green because of a solid colour overlay over some trees but it's still cool artwork)

Image
C418 - Minecraft, Volume Alpha
(cheeky submission but it technically is a close-up of green plants. The grass just happen to be heavily pixelated...)

Image
(BONUS) Chon - Grow

(i like green :D)
